2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 01:02 AM) So we've got... Team Jimmy/Pau Team Noah/Rose Pau, Jimmy and Jo were the ones that wanted Thibs gone if I remember correctly, so Thibs can exist on his own. McDermott trained with Jimmy, so we can add him there. Taj loves everyone. Dunleavy just does what he needs to. Portis probably team Hoiberg. Both Noah and Butler ragged on Hoiberg. Paxson likes Noah, Forman likes Pau. Pax liked Thibs and Forman until the JVG episode. The moral of the story? Too many god damn politics going on with this team and the only person who is innocent is Taj motherf***ing Gibson. I don't trust any of this as the leaks were very heavy coming from the Forman side after Thibs left - who remained silent on it aside from JVG. Also, the forman contribution of telling players they don't need to listen to Thibs. Considering Jimmy basically tried to reinsititute Thibs offense and kept blaming weak coaching, going to assume whatever anti-thibs was in him was planted or manipulated cause it sure seems like he respects him now.

That would be hilarious for this crap qb class to get 5 in the first round.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) This has really pissed me off. I don't use the app nearly as much as I used to because so many tweets are MIA now. I have tweetbot on my phone, which was unaffected by the change. It has been really jarring when I go to web app/ipad twitter app and don't understand why I'm looking at tweets from 3 days ago.

Ah, I blocked out dorne from my mind. That was like they sandwiched scenes from Adam West's batman into Christopher Nolan's batman movies.

Lucas Museum and U.S. Cellular Field
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) I liked the idea better when they tore up a parking lot to put in a museum a rich guy was paying for completely. I mean, he basically got a free lease in that deal, but I agree I liked that more.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
Read on Twitter on my phone and because the twitter web app has decided to do the stupid "best tweets" thing that I can't reverse, I can't find it. But, Browns looking to trade down, but struggling since now teams don't know what QB would be available. I'd say it's 99% certain 1-2 are QBs at this point. It's funny, in this draft I"m not sure BPA applies to Bears in round 1. They'll probably have several players rated the same where they draft and can go based on need of DL/OL/CB/LB

2016 Democratic Thread
It's pretty clear there would be a lot less sexual assaults if only women had more men telling them how to live their lives correctly. Historically, they are a population that has just been out there, living way too free and clueless the the predatory world surrounding them. God bless you Kasich. You are just the president we need to make america pure again.

2016 Democratic Thread
He may not be responsible, but he does live in a world that already exists. He's either ignorant or malicious and he's running for president so he can be better regardless. But of course, male politicians aren't responsible for the environment they surround themselves in, only sexual assault victims are.

No, he's saying that women are smart enough to read that statement by Kasich and see the pervasive attitude that women that participate in social events are by the nature of being there "asking for it".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) That is more to answer the idea that a running back has no effect on an offense, not a valuation of Ellliot. Even looking at vikes numbers, aside from the Favre magic year, the best they've done in total ypg is 13th, and had several years in the bottom 1/3rd, including last year where they were 29th. I struggle to figure out what the value is there. Seems to be the vikes success is based off of their defensive strength.

Yeah, while many colleges use RBs that are undersized and shifty, Alabama has put huge rbs in their backfield, and along with a bigger than normal offensive line, the results seem to be due to overpowering vs incredible vision/elusiveness. You lose that when you go Pro. Not sure if I'd care for him.

I won't be against Elliot pick, per se, but if we pass on him I'll be fine with it. I'm not sure we'll need to though. I think if we can trade down and get a 3rd and get someone like Mackenzie Alexander that would be ideal to me.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) Which has nothing to do with what Kasich said. Just because other people are victim-blaming doesn't mean Kasich is. Saying it to a specific victim is very different than answering a general hypothetical question. He's a member of the gov't being asked what he would do to keep women safe from sexual assault. The US fed government has a number of levers they've used to try and reduce local crimes, but for sexual assault their lever is to tell women to stay at home. Got it. He's just a dad, talking to his daughter!

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) It's not victim-blaming, it's giving advice to people on how to best avoid becoming victims. I will tell my daughter 1000 times not to get herself into those situations, but if she does, I'm going to insist on full prosecution of the offender and not tell my daughter, "See, I told you." But the latter continues to happen in police offices, prosecution offices and juries. Feel free to tell your kids not to walk home alone late at night. Go out with friends to parties. That isn't really helpful from a politician though. Would he instead offer to ban alcohol for men, since it seems to cause so much more crime among them?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) They don't have a QB though. Rams probably make the playoffs with Cutler. Right but how many offensive positions add so little marginal value when you add the best player there?
-
2016-2017 NFL Thread
I'm torn by thinking that Elliot is both very good, but also knowing that the Rams added maybe the best RB in the league last year and their offense ended up basically the same (bad).

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Despite what either side of the issue might lead you to believe, it is not an open and shut case. For pretty much ever, the standard was that if you have a penis, you use men's restrooms and locker rooms, and if you have a vagina, you use women's restrooms and locker rooms. This has always been a problem for transgendered people, some of whom dress in the style of the gender they identify with instead of the gender they actually are. M->F people often were ridiculed/bullied/attacked if they entered a men's room dressed as a woman. F->M people dressed as men are often mistakenly identified as sexual predators there to attack women. For transgendered people, the solution seemed simple: let them use restrooms and locker rooms of the gender they identify with instead of the gender they actually are. Seems simple but has two major complications: 1) There is nobody at the door of restrooms and locker rooms verifying that people with penises who are trying to use women's facilities are actually transgendered. There have already been cases of straight men taking advantage of this rule to expose themselves to and/or get a look at women. 2) Even if only transgendered people were to use the other restroom/locker room, there are still plenty of women who just don't want to see a penis while they are in a locker room, and certainly plenty of parents who don't want their teenage daughters exposed to that. While some of the people who favored bills like the one in North Carolina are bigoted, bigotry is clearly not the only reason one might have for supporting this bill. I would propose a compromise that ought to be good enough (but not necessarily ideal) for everybody: A) Any newly constructed buildings must have restrooms/locker rooms for men and women, as well as open/family facilities that can be used by anyone. B) Any existing buildings that have at or above a certain number of restrooms/locker rooms must convert some to open/family facilities. C) Any existing buildings with limited numbers of restrooms/locker rooms that are unable to convert some to open/family facilities must post notices at the entries that they do not have open/family facilities. Restrooms are clearly a much easier fix than places with locker rooms and showers. Also, PayPal and Bryan Adams (and probably most other musicians) = total hypocrites. Both do plenty of business in Muslim countries where transgendered people aren't accommodated and even worse it's actually illegal to be gay. But they needed to take a stand against North Carolina. Paypal didn't threaten to stop allowing transactions in North Carolina, they decided not to employ people there if they needed to follow that law. I do not see any Paypal offices in Muslim countries.

The Bathroom Dilemma
Is the unlawful action entering the womens bathroom or exposing yourself to others there? Women's bathrooms stalls in them. Fairly easy to keep a law on the books to prevent that.

**2016 Films Thread**
I saw jungle book friday. It was visually pretty cool! But it's a tough sell for me to watch a two hour movie with a live action child actor as the only real person in movie. Also - the king louie song scene was very awkward. Not sure why they decided to do it that way.

The Offense
If their OBP is last and also they made no improvement in power numbers, then I will be worried. But we knew we did not make large OBP improvements, but we did think we made power improvement. I think we'll see that.

The Offense
I skipped rest of thread after reading "the bats aren't getting any better" Really? Abreu is going to be a .220 15 hr power hitter this year? Frazier is confined to Adam Dunn status? Our pitching and defense has shown to be good enough to win us games themselves, that's good. last year we had pitching but no defense. Yes, it's possible that the bats get sucked into a blackhole of suckness like last year, but we don't need to be so fatalistic after losing 1 series.
