  1. i want them to do a show investigating that cougar in roscoe village.
  2. perhaps our Congressman and Senators are just shocked they have to do a job again.
  3. but significance is one. We've had fairly vanilla legislature, when was the last time there was intense heat with many special interests keenly involved. At the very least I'd have to say the SO2, because that was pretty heated with the coal states.

and haha at Oprah being the first thought. Reminds me of coming to america when murphy donates a wad of cash to a playground and the soulglo guy gets credit.

That's really cool. Philanthropy like this really is special to America, and to do it anonymously without wanting wings named after you is very cool.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) 1964/5. Medicare. that's the last "major" reform? What about the civil service reform under Carter or the SO2 cap and trade that was 20 years in the making

    I love Roger Ebert.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) When was the last time America tackled a project as big as health care reforms? You'd seriously have a better idea than I would. Perhaps tax reform or whatever bill it was under GHWB that helped lead to budget surpluses but effectively ended his career.
  9. keep fightin the good war against non-existent soldiers kap
  10. I'll give credit where credit is due (for once), Biden's speech (essentially eulogy) given today on Teddy Kennedy was very touching.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 01:02 AM) more access to inaccurate or disinformation makes them dumber. Also, you run the risk of getting into echo chambers full of confirmation bias where your ideas are only supported and never challenged. The Series of Tubes makes it easier to find like-minded idiots. disagree. The problem now is a bunch of old white men are center of the debate and they just learned email, and dag nabbit that email just said there'd be death squads.

I think there are some weird expiration rules. My friends band name is ptarmigan, the same name as some canadian prog band in the seventies but it still checked out for them.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) TV an internet(s) pretty much dumb us down. I'll post more on why I think that later. Gotta run. I'm pretty sure less access to information didn't exactly make people smarter.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) Andrew Jackson's wife is a pipe smoking woman of ill repute. laughed heartily. Today's birthers are about fake birth certificates, yesterdays was about being a illegitimate child. Just updatin with technology.
  15. must be fun for a red sox fan to get to be able to tee off against contreras and garcia in back to back days.

It's hard to dethrone michael bay of that title. If anyone takes that seriously shame on you.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) We are a nation of labels and sound bytes. Slogans and catch phrases with the attention span of, well something with a short attention span. I don't think that's unique to us. There's been numerous examples of political parties taking over on a great slogan (e.g. Peace, land and bread , makes the trains run on time)

Flaxx I've been listening to electric warrior quite a bit recently.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) The far left is kinda pissed its not a single-payer or NHS-style system. Public option is a compromise. yes but the far far left circles back around and supports public option, I guess.
  20. Enacting single payer systems is less extreme than not enacting single payer systems. Got it.
  21. what are you talking about
  22. well you can't argue with that. For one the 1930s and 1960s never happened in our countries history.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 06:54 AM) oh, no, it's mainstream, conservative, moderates, liberals, agenda - a public option. The whole WORLD wants this! (Except those mobs, nazis, crazy f***s showing up at these town hall meetings.) man, you just have no context on any issue. Read something.
  24. Man it's hard being a white person in today's world, I gotta tell you.
  25. yes, the far far left agenda is ... a public option
