QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) I wanted to take this opportunity to bump this thread, because Harold Reynolds said on BBTN that Kenny is looking at Omar Vizquel. Hence, a hearty FOCK YOU to all you bastages who called out my analysis. I was the FIRST person to say that Kenny should at least make a call for him. Now, I still believe it is a remote possiblility that Omar comes to the Sox, but at least my analysis was spot on and that Kenny is at least thinking about it. SO AGAIN A HEARTY FOCK YOU TO ALL OF THOSE THAT HAVE NO CLUE This has been talked about a lot in the sub forum.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) I know you don't have the advantage of listening to Chicago sports radio, but ESPN's Bruce Levine, the "intelligible" baseball dunce...er...source, is reporting this deal is really picking up and quickly. He thinks this has a very, very good chance of going down. Personally, I think Kenny is trying to hammer out two things: 1) Can he make this happen without having to deal Marte 2) Does he have a puncher's chance of signing Burnett to a long-term deal--something I endorse with PK sent packing after 05' anywho To be honest with number 1 I think it's more like if he can find a replacement for Damaso. I think Ozzie just isn't very impressed by Damaso, unfortunately we haven't seen the same guy from 02 and 03. I think Kenny will part with Marte but he wants to make sure he has a replacement lined up as well.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Interesting, this could be a big week for the Cubs, if Wood has to go on DL and they fall further behind in wild card, they may be sellers next weekend They obviously wouldn't sell Lee, Prior, Ramirez and a few others, but I imagine Burnitz, Dempster, Perez, Walker, Blanco would have some value as extra pieces to a contending team It would be interesting to see if they make Maddux available, I know his contract was really back loaded so next years $$ are huge for him, Cubs might want to dump that I can promise you the Cubs won't be selling.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) I remain unconvinced that SFG is going to deal any major player. The globe reported that they've had scouts tailing the Red Sox since the all-star break but I that's because they have a strong pen & the Red Sox appear desperate. It makes sense if you're out of it but I expect to contend in 2006 to deal from your pen because that's the easiest to upgrade in the off-season. There are always quality arms for the pen available. No stats?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) He still allowed the run to be knocked in. He's been shaky, not dominant like you'd expect from a closer. He allowed one hit and that run meant nothing. Nothing to worry about, to be honest you see most closers get hit a bit before they close it down and that's including Wagner or Lidge or Everday Eddie. Hermy's blown 1 save, he's done an awesome job.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) Another guy who is available for next to nothing is Soriano of Texas. Of course you wouldn't want him playing secondbase much. But depending on Thomas' status he would make a pretty interesting DH with a lot of power and speed and strikeouts. Plus you could non tender him during the off season. I believe he is arb eligible. Its just a thought, I would prefer a LH bat. I dislike Soriano very much.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I'm not going to begin to dissect BA and velocity. BA is as good of a minor league publication as there is. They do an awesome job covering the entire minors. However....Jesse Foppert and his 99 MPH heat or Brian Miller and his easy heat (Former guy in the Sox system that topped out at 88-90). None of these guys were even close. Jenks is the real deal...I've been oogling him since he was in the Angels system. Just do a search and look how crazy I went when I found out the Sox signed him. All I can say is maybe Gio adds velocity, maybe he doesn't. I'm not knocking him on a prospect but a lot of people are over-rating him and really under-rating and to a point just blasting Brandon and quite frankly its uncalled for. He's an upper echelon pitching prospect and is what I'd dub a special pitching prospect. He's no Felix Hernandez (whose sick) but he's in that next category (frankly Felix is in a level all by himself). What about Honel and his mid 90's fastball?? It seems like Kris never had that good of a fastball but I could be wrong.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Would you be willing to give BMac + another prospect or BMac + Marte for Vizquel? It wouldn't take that much to land Omar.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Maybe I'm just not understanding the original post, but he said that Vizquel is gonna be traded to the White Sox? Or that he is just on the block and the Sox are interested? He said it very oddly, he said he's heard that Vizquel might be traded to the Sox. In a way he made it seem like it was going to happen, kind of weird.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Who's valido? Robert Valido. The best shortstop we have in the system.

QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Do not listen to this moron, he knows nothing. I remember back in late April or early May BBTN was talking about the Sox and all that he said was "Paul Konerko has been Dynamite" when he was hitting around .190. Yes but he has inside information unlike all of us. If he heard something about Vizquel then he either heard it from a baseball source or maybe Gammons or whatever...Point is he's got some sources we don't.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) I just posted something on that. He also had some nice things to say about the Sox splitting against the BoSawk. I actually think he was pretty right on. It doesn't matter to the BoSox as much as it does to Chicago. The Red Sox have won it all, they have that winning attitude and have been through the postseason, for the White Sox it matters more. They split the series but would of won the series had they played any defense in Buehrle's start. At the very least that tells you, that you can play with the defending champs. It's funny cause we just played like total s*** in two games and still split the series. I'll take it. We play decently in those two games we win atleast 3 of 4, maybe all 4.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) He specifically said on Baseball Tonight that I heard that Omar Vizquel may be coming over to swing that bat and play some defense at short. Also said Billy Wagner on the block and than Ravech mentioned Burnett. Anyway this is the first Vizquel refernce I've heard in a long time. Let me just say, offensively this is the one move that makes TOTAL sense. I'll give up Valido and than some, I don't care. Vizquel makes this team so much better. We all saw Tadahito today in sitautions where he was allowed to swing away and he did well. Move him down in the lineup and he'll produce more runs and Omar is a better 2 hole hitter anyway. This move flat out makes sense. I don't care what it costs as long as Chris Young and Bmac aren't a part of the deal. Get Vizquel, Get Wagner and I couldn't be happier. Stealing my thunder. I already posted this in the trade rumors thread.

Our favorite baseball analyst Harold Reynolds said he heard the Sox are looking at Vizquel.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Gio has allot of movement on his pitches, compared to McCarthys which are flat. Plus Gio has 4-5 pitches to McCarthys 2 and suspect change up. I believe that was his point. Maybe, but he said Brandon doesn't attack the sense which is false. Brandon's numbers were unreal in A ball so to think Gio is the better prospect compared to Brandon at this point is kind of ridiculous. I like Gio a lot but he has a ton to prove. Brandon's going to be fine, I will agree he needs to use that change more, it's actually a good pitch he just doesn't have a ton of confidence in it at this point.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Brandon does have good control, but his balls hang a lot. He doesn't like throwing his changeup in the zone for whatever reason. I see him topping out as a #3 pitcher which is what Burnett would be with. Except Burnett has much better stuff. Don't forget, we also got Buehrle, Garland and Garcia on this team. That leaves only two positions to fill if Contreras doesn't get resigned next year. I personally think Jose will be resigned to a smaller contract next year and Burnett would be the perfect guy to fill out the rotation. We're trying to win now. I could give a s*** less about BMac. Jose's signed through next year and Burnett would be our 4th starter if he came here, maybe 5th.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) I just wanted to say that it was nice to see Ross back in the lineup today and getting a clutch double... We could of done without that brain cramp on the bases but other then that good job It wasn't a brain cramp, it was done on purpose to draw a throw away from homeplate and the speed demon Paul Konerko.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Since when is Brandon McCarthy as good as Danny Haren and Rich Harden? Hell, when did Oakland develop Danny Haren? He was groomed by STL. I don't give a damn about BMac. We have Gio in the system who actually will attack the zone. Burnett has electric stuff and arguably the best stuff in the whole major leagues(Clement at least thinks so). Marte And BMac for Burnett. I'd do that deal anyday of the week. I just don't think it's happening though. Gio is an A ball. And what the hell does "who actually will attack the zone" mean. Brandon's always had good control and always attacks the zone, that makes no freakin sense.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Happy about the win... Great job by Jose... But what on earth was wrong with Marte... I mean that deal is looking better and better, thats if the Marlins even still want it... Iguchi had a great game though... I was so encouraged by that game he had in Cleveland now it seems he's back to last years and this years Marte. To bad, I have no clue what has happened to the guy cause his stuff is still there.
