QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) I'm not going to be able to access soxtalk during tomorrow's game, so here are my things I would have likely complained about: - Widger playing instead of AJP, when everyone knows Contreras is better with AJP, and Arroyo is so much tougher on righties than lefties. - Timo shouldn't be playing CF. - Contreras likely just pitched his last game ever for the Sox. - I can't stand Hawk's "stretch" - Why didn't we ph Dye when the tying run was at the plate. I'm going to quote some of those things and start b****ing back at you, deal?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) Chill, chill. I'm not gonna rip anybody. I have a pounding headache and am basically browsing. And am really pissed about the s*** that happened on the basepaths tonight, about squandering the bases loaded with one out, and about screwing up a damn good outing from our #5 starter. No need to talk about the A's. They keep winning, I'm happy that they're proving everyone wrong, but am pissed that they have a potential shot of winning the WC. Today sucked. Thankfully tomorrow's game is at 2 and hopefully the sox can make us all feel better.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) I am sure Bill is wrong and you are right. He also said our offense has been bad for a while now, and outside of the injun series we have been scoring runs mainly on homers. And with that approach its hard to keep consistant. But then again he just played major league baseball and is an analyst for comcast. What does he know. This is so hypocritical it's ridiculous. I respect Bill Melton as much as anyone does, just cause he's an ex major leaguer doesn't make him always right. I called you a hypocrite cause Hawk and DJ were talking about how good Miller was tonight but you won't admit that, so I guess you know more then them too right?? By the way, Keith I see you reading this thread, I'm sure wanting to rip on me for the A's comment. We've had this discussion already so you don't even have to bother. Though I do enjoy are banters back and fourth since we never agree on anything.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Our pitching is built to win in the playoffs. Our hitting is not. Belton Bill Melton said after the game that we should model ourselves after the A's. They are a low BA team that works counts and makes the best with what we have. But s*** the As dont hit solo homers like we do. We are going to have at least 180 homers. We rock. Modeling your team after the A's offense is a terrible idea. Considering those kind of lineups will never win a championship, imo.

Talk about shredding your system to hell.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) We scored a s***load of runs last year. Maybe they werent inconsistant either. I'm not talking about just runs scored, I'm talking about how they've consistantly scored a solid amount of runs in most games.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) They are at the tops in BA, OBP, OPS. They dont have the same problem as us. Would you like to be higher in ba, obp, and ops and lower in runs scored?? You claim because of a low ba, obp and ops that the offense is inconsistant but that's not true.

QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) There have been games where they've scored them in bunches. For example, twice they beat the Yankees 17-1. That is why you have to look deeper than the numbers. That is why you can never have too much quality pitching. Hitters tend to "fatten up" on bad pitching. That being said, the thing with teams like the Red Sox, is that they have that 1 guy (or two) who scares you when he's up with the game on the line. For them it's Ortiz and Manny. The Angels have Vlad. I don't think the White Sox have that guy. Frank used to be that guy, but I don't think he'll ever be the same. Does that mean they automatically lose? No, but that is why there is more pressure for their pitching to be even better, IMO. Good post. Here's the thing, everyone here seems to expect an explosion every now and then from our offense but there are people claiming our O is inconsistant. In other words I'm saying that the same people who are calling our offense inconsistant would probably be doing the same for the Red Sox offense if they were fans of the Bosox. You are very correct that we don't have that 1(or 2 in the case of Boston) stud in the middle of the lineup like Boston or Anaheim.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) We have the lowest BA in the AL. We have the lowest OBP in the AL. The only way we score is if we hit home runs right now. Our hitters have no discipline at all. After working counts, fouling off pitches the next batter Uribe swings at the first pitch near the plate and grounds out. That is a microcosm on why our offense sucks right now. If we bang homers we look like world beaters. If the opposing pitcher can spot the fastball on the outside corner its over. BTW our offense lately is officially the same as last year. We score a lot of runs one night, then get 4 hit the next night. I guess the Red Sox are having the same problem then?
-
First off let me say here I'm not comparing the Bosox offense to our's I'm just trying to make the point about the consistancy of our offense: Here's an interesting stat, i just used 4 runs, cause usually when teams with good pitching score 4 runs they're going to win. Anyways the Red Sox have failed to score atleast 4 runs in 28 of their games this year, the White Sox 30, and the Red Sox are said to be the best offense in baseball, i guess if our O is that inconsistant so is their's Also, the Bosox have been shut out twice this year, our sox 3 times.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) When you split at home, that's a like a loss. thread. Oh I see.....
-
So if our Sox win tomorrow do you think Bosox fans start ending their teams playoff chances?? I mean that'd be a split maybe they can't play with the big boys either. I don't know, maybe the Red Sox should start selling if they lose tomorrow. Crap, what is that?? They're 9.5 games worse then our Sox and 10.5 worse if they lose tomorrow. s***, they can't play with the big boys, they're done.
-
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) What a disgrace. You know, this is the stuff that pisses me off. A disgrace to what?? This team is anything but a disgrace. If you want to vent about this game, go right ahead, tonight was bad but to call this team a disgrace make you an embarrassment to the great fan base the White Sox have.
-
Bad, bad game there. Tonight the hitting was bad not much else to say. They let Miller off the hook early when they could hit him. Carl for the most part has been great at coming through in big situations and just didn't tonight, unfortunately that happens. Just forget about this one, go out and get 'em tomorrow.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) i didn't mean Pods for some reason I thought he was right handed for the moment and envioned all the hits to left. I am a moron tonight. Don't worry about it. Tonights one of those games that can drive anyone crazy.
-
That ball went it looked like, I guess not. EDIT: It obviously stayed in the park but for some reason my eyes played tricks on me when it hit the wall.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Pods, Everett, Konerko, A.J., Juan, Crede are all dead pull hitters. Rowand and Timo are mostly pull hitters and Iguchi is the only one who can go opposite way. Who wants to bet we score 2 next inning? Pods, a dead pull hitter??
-
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) man o man whre is Dye and Gload ! You need to proof read your posts, they're very hard to read most of the time. I know what you're saying here but use some punctuation at times, please.
-
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Iguchi has been on base 3 times today and not scored. Shows just how pathetic Everett and Konerko have been. Everett is starting to catch the Konerko virus. NOT GOOD Or he's just having a bad game.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) I'm not so sure. He scored 100 runs with Milwaukee in 2003 and 85 last year hitting .244. He is on pace for about 90 this year. Not his fault.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) When's the last time Pods got on base late in a close game? He seems to be a lot better earlier in the game? Does anyone know what he's hitting after the 6th inning this season? I couldn't tell you but I'd be willing to bet it's pretty good.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) I'm just saying he could save his body some pounding, and Iguchi would be probably appreciate not having to get himself in a hole giving him the opportunity to swipe second. He hit quite a few triples the last couple of years, and I think 19 homers. So he has shown he can drive the ball in the past. When he started to try and drive the ball is when he got himself in trouble. Scotty's base stealing ability gives everyone in the lineup better pitches to hit. All you have to do is watch the pitcher when he's on the bases.
-
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) \ carefull u might be put on ignore list! maybe it happends if u bash the great Rowand only? You're bashing rowand with nothing to back it up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Miller, before the injury, was a damn good pitcher. However, he has nowhere near the same stuff. His velocity is way down, and his curve doesn't have near the bite it used to. He's not one of the worst pitchers, but he's not someone who should be shutting you out through 7 innings. His curve has some serious bite tonight. He's definitely pitching a poor ballgame here though, our hitters just aren't hitting him for whatever reason. Just one of those games so far. Good thing is, we got 6 more outs.

QUOTE(atrain081 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) we need furcal, it's like having two posednicks Except Podsednik gets on base.
