QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) I'm not 100% sure if you got it or not, but that was sarcasm. I know it was, the smiley wasn't meant for you, it was directed towards the exact people you're talking about.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) 9 in a row by Lance carter. When we lose to garbage like this, is why no one takes the Sox seriously. We should be killing a team like this. We have for years have had a problem beating crap teams. Detroit loses a record amount of times and we attribute to like 30 percent of their win total. Remember guys this doesnt get easier when we play the Orioles over the weekend. We need to beat crap. Some of you guys are just unbelievable. They're on an 8 game winning streak, do you understand that?? This game isn't even over and it's time to cry because we might fall to 16 games over .500.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) 86-88 mph is not exactly popping the mitt. His splitter that he was getting called for a strike was a hanger. This was not vintage Nomo. The sox hitters didnt have a good gameplan. They were looking for something to drive instead of doing the little things with men on. That is the only reason we watched our hitters take strike 3 2 times with men on second and third. 88 for Nomo is plenty, his velocity has been so down these last 2 years that it was just getting killed. His splitty was down in the strike zone all night and had a lot of movement on it.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) I have a question, and no, I'm not trying to act like a troll: What's this bad luck we're hitting into? Podsednik and Uribe both have lined out, but both those weren't in crucial situations. When we had guys in scoring position, if our hitters made contact, it was very weakly. I'm just asking cause I heard DJ say the same. We've hit plenty of balls hard tonight and just not finding holes, it seemed that way yesterday also, not making any excuses but it's not like the offense hasn't been taking good swings tonight.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Bad luck because we only got 2 runs off of Hideo f***ing Nomo and Lance Carter? Bad f***in luck cause we've hit a lot of balls hard at people. By the way Nomo was good tonight even though his numbers coming into this game sucked. He was popping his fastball better and his forkball was diving like it used to. 2 out walk.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Here comes Politte, god damnit with the way the offense has swung this baby is about done. Dude, I know you love being pessimistic but yeesh, the 8th inning is our inning, that's when our offense always gets some big hits. By the way it's not like our guys have been swinging the bat poorly, lots of bad luck in this game so far.

Olivo benched
Miguel is what he is. Can't call a game but has a rocket arm. He can lay off the down and away breaking ball but if a lefty leaves him a fastball down the plate he'll hit it out of the park.

Dan Lebatard
It's awful that this crap has come up. Instead of looking at the kind of year Nash had we're reading and talking about this s***. It gets rather ridiculous with the race card being played all the freakin time now. Steve winning the mvp had nothing to do with race, Dan Retard(thanks chuck) absolutely nothing.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 9, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) 7 Chris Singleton, RF It'll be nice to see Chris on the field again. Outside of this series I really wish him well, he was one of my favorite players when he played for the sox.

what should we do about Frank Thomas
Pods has to be in the lineup everyday, period. He's the man who makes this offense run, he's more valuable then any of the guys we're mentioning, including Frank.

around the horn
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Hey Captain dips*** who the f*** made Tornoto a .500 team It's funny cause Toronto just came off a series victory over Balti who was red hot, they run into us and get swept. This sox team is really special, this is going to be a fun year to let play out.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Willing to bet that he makes the "weak schedule" arguement again. You win.

what should we do about Frank Thomas
Frank and Aaron are going to be in the lineup every day. Most likely what Ozzie will do is whoever is swinging the bat best between Carl and Jermaine will be in the lineup, if they're both swininging it well then they'll probably platoon with Carl facing righties and Jermaine facing lefties.

Randy Johnson
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) I just read my quotes in that thread, remembering that I was pro-Johnson. I stated, however, that we had to do everything in our power to NOT give up Jon Garland in the deal. That was exactly my stance.

QUOTE(1549 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Its a possibility, but personally if a gun is put to my head I put my money on the A.L. East. Ya figure out of Baltimore-NY-Boston, 2 out of the 3 are good for 90 wins. I could easily see us or the twins slipping to 85ish. Living in the New York metro area, I love watching them struggle...but I still feel its just a matter of time. Their rotation is going to be ok. The only serious problem is that WEAK bullpen of theirs. The yanks have put themselves in one hell of a hole already, doesn't mean they can't get out of it but with their starting pitching it's going to be tough to run off long winning streaks. Balti's for a real, they're a pretty solid team, that being said down the stretch they're going to faulter a bit because of their lack of depth in their rotation, the twins are a much better team then balti imo. The more and more I see these teams play, the more I think the wild card is coming out of the central this year.

Baj ERA Watch
QUOTE(T R U @ May 9, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Yeah, Baj was great with us when he was called up last season Until he shows anything even close to being decent on the ML level I am not getting my hopes up on a minor league ERA No offense here T R U but I know you dont get to watch a ton of games and Baj's stats were very misleading, there were barely any hard hit balls off of him, a lot of bad luck.
