2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) I see people talking about ISU's chances at the tourney coming down to their last 3 conf games - have to disagree. They are currently 18-7/8-4, with this remaining schedule: Mon 2/13 @ BAY (#6) Sat 2/18 vs OKLA Wed 2/22 vs TTech Sat 2/25 @ KSU Wed 2/29 @ Mizzou (#4) Sat 3/3 vs BAY (#6) Even if they just win 2 (home against OU and Tech for example), they finish 20-11/10-8, and I have little doubt that gets them in. They'd be top 4 in the conference, over .500 in what is currently looking like the 2nd or 3rd toughest conference, 20 wins, and at least one win against a top 10 team. So barring a collapse, this team is in. Now, if they can pull off a win at KSU or an upset against Baylor, that just helps their seeding. They may also help themselves with a win in the B12 tourney. But they are on the inside right now, and will only fall out if they fail to win 2 of those remaining 6. Big 12 will likely send 5 teams, and possibly even 6 if Texas continues its climb. Their overall profile would be extremely weak if they just beat OU and Tech. That being said I wouldn't put it by the committee to put them in the field just because of their conference record. -

Wish we would have matched that. That's nothing. -
Kate Beckinsale and Carrie Underwood are perfection.

Blah that would have been a huge W for NW. Their resume actually is pretty decent for a bubble team but they got some work to do. -

Me thinks NW caught a break. -
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 12, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) A question about running distance for the math majors on here: Can I assume treadmill distance is calculated merely as a function of time and belt speed and doesn't account for stride length? I've always thought 0% incline treadmill running was supposed to be "easier" than on the road, but lately find myself having a harder time doing equivalent distances and times indoors than out. I'm 6'5" and a long strider, so I'm guessing that I'm actually covering a bit more more ground than the machines at my club are telling me, assuming they're even correctly calibrated to begin with. Does that make any sense? Fair question but I've always had a harder time running outside compared to running on the treadmill. How's everyone's work out plan going? I'm pretty happy with my results so far(have cut body fat while adding a good amount of muscle) and hoping to get to my ultimate goal within a month or two.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) What happened between the McDermotts in the Wichita State - Creighton game that Andy Katz is equating to the most awkward thing ever? Not sure, I turned it off about 10-15 minutes ago. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) Baylor is playing on low confidence, but it would take something special for the Clones to win in Waco. Iowa State's tourney hopes hinge on their final 3 conference games. Baylor is just soft as hell. Thing is they're so damn athletic and talented that they can overwhelm most of their opponents, and unfortunately for Heads, I agree with you, can't see the Clones winning in Waco. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) HHH/Taker 3.................... . No interest at all is seeing this again! Ditto but the rest of the card should be pretty fun.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) Texas A&M is just awful to watch offensively. On the bright side, Iowa State is now tied with Baylor for third in the Big 12 with a game in Waco on Monday night that should be pretty good. Thought you'd also be excited to see your boys team look like garbage on National TV. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) Why is Mizzou/Baylor not on TV? this would be my first shot at seeing the Tigers on TV. Ugh Hooray espn3. Seriously though, extremely lame. Anywho, I'm pumped for the 3 hrs of basketball between 3 and 6 today, Creighton-Wichita and UNLV-SDSU, awesomness. -
Jeremy Lin is officially out of control.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) im not sure this statement is true. Sale looks like a good pick. Besides that weve had the football player from LSU who has been hurt, and when healthy has hit .236 in the minors. Walker may be too early to tell, but nobody here can be impressed so far. We've added 0 depth in the later rounds as well frankly, a couple years ago KW had his "re-commitment" to finding prospects with big upside and "overhauled" our amateur scouting....well it hasnt worked one bit yet IMO, and has only gotten worse.... this was tweeted by baseball prospectus The White Sox system is so bad that I decided to write scouting reports on the characters from Real Genius instead: http://bit.ly/xQTokq You're only looking at 1st round picks though and it's too early to tell on Walker and well this is probably a do or die year for Mitchell. Besides that the last few drafts have already turned out some MLB players, overall the drafting has been much better. -

Gus Johnson is awesome. Murray goes down. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) Somehow winning football games elevates him to another level. This is absolutely correct, you're just arguing the wrong side of it. Because he won football games he somehow got elevated to god status by some people and that's the only reason some defend this idiot.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 06:03 AM) So I got engaged yesterday. Damn, I missed this. Congrats buddy! QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) In all seriousness, congrats bro. Jesus the "young" soxtalk posters (as we used to be known as) are all growing up so fast. Don't worry I'm always here to slow down the overall maturation process of that group.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Wow, Zeller on the last 3 possessions of the game: Put a missed three into own hoop for 2 points. Miss 2nd free throw after being fouled on the inbound. Let Rivers have 25 feet to obviously shoot a 3 even though there are only 3 seconds left. Zeller needs to get his hand up there but I absolutely hate switching in that situation. Bad play by zeller just not a situation he should have been put in. -

'Cuse-gtown was a lot of fun. Both very good teams but both of them have a gaping hole in their overall game. -
Jeremy Lin: great passer, good feel for the game, can't drive left, no jump shot.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) I have a sickening feeling in the put of my stomach that Calipari is winning it this year. Ya, they're the best team in the country. Obviously anything can happen come tourny time but because of the way they defend they're going to have to miss a lot of jump shots to be beat. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) I'm not happy about Evansville being yet another team in the race for the #3 spot in the MVC. Meh, the 3 seed really means nothing this year.
