Here is my take...... It will take a MINIMUM of beating either Michigan St. or Wisconsin, and beating Northwestern to finish the regular season at 15-12. Then they would need to beat Minny in the Big 10 tournament and at least play Illinois very close. They would then be 16-13 and I don't think that will be enough, but they will need at least that to even be considered. I could see a scenario where other bubble teams fall short and IU is given credit for a strong finish, as well as some benefit of the doubt for the Charlotte game. I wouldn't hold my breath, but if they consider NC a good loss, as well as UConn and a close game against Illinois, one could make an argument based on their schedule and their youth and finish. I wouldn't put any money on it or hold my breath, but in my mind, that is the a worst case scenario where they could be considered. As far as Davis goes, I don't think it will necessarily depend on making the tournament or not, but rather the general direction and level of play. If they play well but lose to both Michigan St and Wisconsin and are respectable in the Big 10 Tournament a case can be made they are headed in the right direction. If they lay down and get crushed in any of those games or lose to Northwestern or in the first round of the B-10 tourney, then it could be viewed that they are just spinning their wheels and not making progress. The biggest factor Davis has going against him in my mind is that he is due a $300,000 bonus if he is the Head Coach at IU as of July 1, 2005. He can bought out for roughly $750,000. If he is given one more season, it will cost IU roughly $550,000 just for that one more year when the bonus is factored in. I think if the AD is on the fence at all that will not go in his favor. Do you delay the decision another year and payout $550,000 for this year and still have to pay another $500,000 to buy him out next year if things don't go well? I think if Greenspan (the AD) is comfortable with the direction of the program and thinks Davis is capable of running it long term, he will keep him. If he isn't sure, my guess is that he is gone.

Illinois State Baseball
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) Funny as it is, its been pouring down here and Fullerton has been getting rained out left and right. They got only part of one game in this weekend against USC (Southern Cal) and were losing in the 8th and for some reason instead of it being a win, the rest of the game will be finished at a later date. Evansville, like I mentioned before, is a quality baseball school. But it never rains in Southern California?

Illinois State Baseball
QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) I'm pretty sure it's quite normal for northern colleges to play that many away from home before being at home. I go to U of I in Champaign, and our first home game is game #17, with the first ones all being in tournaments down south. I know it is different, but Evansville opens at home every year the third weekend in February and they are only about 4 hours or so south of Normal. This year they played three games on the road before opening against UIC at home this weekend. I just figured schools in that area could open sooner than 17-18 games in.

Slight Minor League Rule Change
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) There's no reason it shouldn't make it to the majors that I can think of. If it speeds up the game, they can show more commercials in a shorter period of time. Sounds like the type of that would definitely be given serious consideration if the minor league experiment goes well. Because they would have to give up something to the players to get them to agree to the rule change. That's how our lovely MLBPA works. "You want something (even if it is good for the game) then we get something in return."

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) With the weather down here right now I wouldn't want to play any home games. I'm looking forward to going to a few games this year before summer break. I wan't to see if we have a decent squad this year. I played at Illinois State in 1987 or 1988 in the fall. We played back to back triple headers on a Saturday and a Sunday and the thermostat never got above 40 degrees. It was freakin miserable.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) TA can't beat Indiana...He's now 0-8 against us. Pretty decent road win. Vaden stepped it up big again; he's been great the past few games. The 70-63 win over UM puts us back in 4th place in the Big Ten. Still don't be getting your NCAA hopes up. lol

MVP Baseball 2005
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) You would seem like a minor league playing guy. I played every game til NCAA came out.... just couldn't get into it on the video game...... fake players and low attributes made it less realistic, I guess.....

Hoosiers trying to give it away with missed FT's and a turnover, but hanging in there.

MVP Baseball 2005
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Rex, check your pm's in a moment.... Are you talking MVP or NCAA? Yes. lol I got the NCAA rosters and they are great. Didn't buy the Minor League rosters for MVP last year, but based on how they worked for NCAA, I think they would be equally as cool. I don't play the minor league mode much, so I don't know if I will get them or not.

MVP Baseball 2005
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) I usually get deep into dynasty mode into the point where all the names are made up anyways so I don't edit any team names besides Iowa State. I'm also wary of messing with that crap on the net. It works like a freakin charm, heads..... I have played a dynasty all the way to 2030 and it continues to include names for all the players and they are announced as well. If you got the rosters, you would never want to do without.

MVP Baseball 2005
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) I'm not sure. Last year I just edited the Sox minor league rosters from my own brain and other top specs. I figure I at least know a little bit. You can buy them online for like $5. Check eBay. All you have to do is send a memory card to the seller and they will load them and send them back to you. I don't know how GameCube works so I am not sure if that is compatible or not. I did it with the NCAA Football rosters and wouldn't play the game without them now.

MVP Baseball 2005
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) My issue is I have a GameCube so online updates are not really an option. Can you buy updates like you can buy player names for college football or the Minor League rosters?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) This is a must win if we still think we're going to the tournament. I wasn't expecting Wright to do much today. White's really hit the freshman wall these past few games; he's fouled out of the last 2 games. He kind of looks like he did at the beginning of the year, really unsure of what he's doing down low. You're right it is a must win, but in all reality, I don't see a chance in hell they make the tourney whether they win today or not. They just aren't good enough to run the table like they need to. Realistically a best case scenario is they finish 16-13 and I don't see any way that gets them in, Charlotte loss or not. More likely they will finish 15-14 or 14-15.

Things don't look good greasy...... Wright can't make a shot, DJ is out of synch and I don't see any way they hit 3's in the 2nd half the way they did in the 1st.

Illinois State Baseball
Heather, I was just looking at ISU Baseball's website and noticed they started this weekend. So far they have split with Stetson down in FL. Stetson is a pretty solid program. I also noticed that they will play 18 games on the road before ever playing at home. That has to suck! They are in Nashville next weekend. I may head up there to catch a game or two and hang out with coaches Brownlee.

Rowand in LF, Pods in CF?
QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) His reasoning is Aaron is less likly to kill himself in left than in center. I don't know if I buy that, the walls in left are just as hard as in center and when you count the foul lines, there are more of them. I watched some Brewers on MLB TV to get a look at Podsednik, he doesn't get a jump like Rowand but he is mighty fast, he can really run down a ball. It might come down to whether Podsednik can handle left because his speed won't cover up his mistakes like in center. Maybe Ozzie is different, but I think I'd want someone who was willing to run through a wall for me playing CF. But maybe Rowand getting hurt is a concern. How much time did he spend on the DL last year from running into walls?

Rowand in LF, Pods in CF?
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-doug20.html They haven't even played a ST game yet and Ozzie has already made up his mind? Ozzie just likes to chirp. Unless Pods is much better than Rowand in CF, and from what I have heard he is not, then it would be stupid to waste Rowand's arm in LF.

Rogers article about Frank
I wouldn't exercise the $12 million option on Frank next year unless he does something this year to change my mind. If Frank exercised his $10 million option (which he will do) then I'd still think about buying him out at $3.5 million. Frank is getting older and injuries are becoming more common with him. As a guy who can't play the field, I wouldn't pay him big bucks. I truly think Frank's time in Chicago is done.
