2004 College Football Trash Talk Thread
The think I think is bad about this whole thing is that the BCS system was created so that we didn't have arguments over who the best teams were and the polls were minimized to take the emotional arguments. After several years of tweaking, we are basically right back where we started with the polls mattering the most. So we have basically come full circle and done nothing but create controversy along the way.

With that schedule, I'd consider sitting him out through most of those games...... would help your depth situation as well. Is Wilmington a cupcake this year? They have been pretty solid in the tournament the past couple of years. Btw, I used to play basketball in the neighborhood with their head coach. Just a "couple" of years ago. lol

palehose, how bad is Felton's wrist? When I saw him in serious pain today, I wondered if it might just be best for them to bite the proverbial bullet and sit him out for the next 3-4 weeks to let it heal

Cal in a dogfight with Southern Miss..... Wow, Cal just blocked a game-tying extra point attempt and ran it back for a two-point score! 19-16 Cal with 6:00 to go.

Oklahoma won't lose, so it is a moot point. You can make arguments for all three of the top teams and basically get nowhere. Unfortunately, Auburn will be on the outside, looking in. I definitely think they are one of the top two teams, but it is hard to make an argument to remove Oklahoma or USC to fit Auburn in. Two things about Auburn I find interesting... 1. Auburn has been criticized for an easy non-conference schedule (even through their overall schedule is much tougher than the other two). What I find somewhat interesting is that Bowling Green, one of the teams Oklahoma played out of conference with a good record, was originally on Auburn's schedule for this year. After last season, Bowling Green backed out of the contract (which happens fairly often) so they could take a bigger payday by playing at none other, than Oklahoma. I just find it ironic that one of the schools that supports OU's "tougher non-conference games" argument was one they stole from Auburn's schedule. I guess the moral of the story is Auburn should offer a higher payout to its non-conference foes from now on. 2. After Tommy Tuberville almost got fired last year, and survived -basically getting the President fired instead - he made a brash, some said foolish comment in the press conference when Auburn announced they were keeping him. His comment as he addressed the media was "We WILL win the National Championship. You CAN write that." In most normal years, he would be backing up those words with a shot at it after a 12-0 season. I guess they did everything they could to back up those words. When he said it, I thought he was nuts.

That was one hell of a run by Bush. FWIW Jason, I am with you. I moved south for a reason. I hate the cold and would be happy to never see snow again other than in pictures. Auburn starting the ass-kicking early. If you watch this game, watch Brown and Williams, their RB's. They are both VERY good and will both play on Sundays soon. They have both sacrificed a lot of personal acclaim by staying for their senior years and playing side-by-side. Either would be a legit Heisman contender if the feature back. Both are seniors and very selfless. Same could be said for Reggie Bush, I guess. He has to share time with White.

Auburn-Tennessee game is at 5:00 (central) on CBS. Yes, the USC-UCLA game is on nationally, as is the SEC Championship. We could argue all day or for weeks as has already been going on, but Auburn is damned good. It will be a shame if they get shut out. I am not an Auburn fan, but have watched this team all year long and they are as impressive a college football team as I have seen in a long time.

Jason, what the hell is up with Southern California? It rained last week in the USC-Notre Dame game and there is a chance of rain today (albeit only 20-30%) against UCLA? They said last week's game with rain was the first rain game at home for USC since freakin 1987! Now possibly two weeks in a row? El Nino arrive early or what?

Illinois to get Zook per ESPN
Sorry, I am back on track now........ By the way, all this talk is making me want to dump my Michigan dynasty and start one for Notre Dame, to see if I can bring them back to national acclaim. Off to the Playstation!

Illinois to get Zook per ESPN
True, but you don't think that conferences that send 7 teams to bowl games, including two teams to BCS bowl games in some years would equate to nearly the same?? Especially when you don't get to a BCS game in 10 years.

Jason has anyone told you that you are freaking all over the place. You live in California, are a White Sox fan, like Iowa basketball and Notre Dame...... What's next Florida State baseball? Syracuse lacrosse?

Illinois to get Zook per ESPN
I'd be curious to add up the dollars Notre Dame has received from bowl games in the last 3 yrs., 5yrs. and 10 yrs., versus a team from the Big Ten or the SEC such as Michigan or Tennessee. I'm guessing that despite the fact Notre Dame gets to keep all of their revenues from bowl games, the numbers might surprise you. On the TV side, doesn't the contract with NBC end after next season? From what I have read, there is no way the Irish will get the same kind of deal after their recent struggles. I don't have numbers, but I do believe their ratings have been down significantly.

Illinois to get Zook per ESPN
Unless I am blind, espn.com says that Illinois will offer the job to Zook. It didn't say anything about him accepting it. Mississippi could still be in the picture.

palehosefan, I know you were concentrating on the UNC game, but were you able to pick up the IU-Uconn game on either 616 or 617? I went to a friend's house and he was unable to pick it up. Just curious.

More Soxfest Info
I have always had good luck with Priceline in Chicago. I usually bid in the $60-$65 range, but have stayed at the W Hotel, the Westin Michigan Avenue and The Palmer House, to name a few. I have gotten Hyatt's in other cities for $45, so the $48 makes sense. I just figured you'd have to go a little higher in Chicago.

What I want to know is how in the hell can CBS carry both the UNC-UK game and UConn-IU at the same time in regional coverage?? What idiot made that decision?

Urban going to Florida
Don't leave out the name Bobby Petrino in all of this. I know aboz thinks there is no way in hell he'd leave Louisville, but Louisville is not Notre Dame. Hell, Petrino was entertaining the idea of going back to Auburn a year ago. I had heard this morning, that Florida was going to go hard after Petrino before their most recent coup with Meyer.
