2005 Hall of Fame ballots
The 10 I would consider voting for are listed below. This list was done just from briefly looking at the list of eligible players and is subject to change. I haven't researched them enough to say who I would or would not vote for them. Challenges to the list are welcomed, however. They are in alphabetical order, separated by pitchers and position players. No other reason exists for the order. Wade Boggs Don Mattingly Dale Murphy Jim Rice Ryne Sandberg Alan Trammell Goose Gossage Jack Morris Lee Smith Bruce Sutter

Sox in hunt for Nomar?
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the Red Sox "concerted effort" to get rid of him did not begin until Nomar turned down a 4-year/$60 million contract. Obviously when that offer was made, they didn't think of Nomar as so much of a cancer. I don't know Nomar personally and have no real connections to the Red Sox clubhouse, but it seems to me that Nomar becoming a cancer wasn't an issue (or didn't exist at all) until he turned down a contract offer and the Red Sox tried to trade for ARod, which would have meant trading Nomar. When that became public, the relationship between Nomar and the Red Sox went downhill fast. Granted, Nomar was an idiot for turning down that kind of money, but my attitude might just change a bit too once it has become public my team doesn't want me anymore. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that Nomar would be a problem in a different situation.

ACC/Big 10 Challenge Prdiction Contest
Monday, Nov. 29 Purdue at N.C. State Tuesday, Nov. 30 Michigan at Georgia Tech Florida State at Minnesota Michigan State at Duke Maryland at Wisconsin Wednesday, Dec. 1 Wake Forest at Illinois Ohio State at Clemson North Carolina at Indiana Virginia at Northwestern Tiebreaker: High scorer (player) in any of the games. If no one gets it, highest of those picked wins. Raymond Felton I know having the Big Ten winning it is a pipedream, but hey, somebody has got to live in denial.

Rule what??

The only way the Big Ten can win this challenge is to get 3 wins on Tuesday night and rely on Ohio State to beat Clemson, which would make it all come down to the Illinois/Wake game. The disappointing thing is that none of these games are being done is high definition. That blows.

Flying Under The Radar
No team with uniforms THAT ugly should ever be allowed to score 58 points in a game!

I'll let someone who knows what the best format would be start it. Does anybody know where I can find a list of the games being played in the challenge this year?

I have always thought the Big Ten got screwed with the matchups. I don't think it was done intentionally, but I just always felt the Big Ten was at a disadvantage. They never seemed to get key matchups at home, rather had to go on the road or play on a neutral court. I haven't even looked at the matchups this year. Is it possible to do some kind of pool on it this year, picking the winners?

I still have a hard time rooting for Purdue, but I definitely root for the Big Ten.

It's more of whether ESPN wants to continue it. There has already been talk of an ACC/Big 12 Challenge, which could replace the current format.

BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
Including thumping Texas A&M...... more so than Texas did. My only problem with Utah is that they are going to get stuck playing Pittsburgh and not one of the top teams. I wish they would play Cal or UT or Michigan so that they can truly show what they can or cannot do. Instead, they will play Pitt, where they will likely be double-digit favorites. Utah gets stuck with the team that doesn't belong, so they won't truly get the chance to prove themselves.

BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
The same could apply to a team in a BCS conference playing a team that is chasing an at large berth. It would be to their advantage financially to roll over. But finances don't get into the way of competitiveness. A guy doesn't get to be a coach at that high of a level if it is not in his nature to win every time he takes the field. Ditto for players at that high of a level. They aren't directly benefitting (especially seniors) so as soon as they take the field, all of that is forgotten. It is a strange system nonetheless, that allows for such twists and turns.

BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
I know, but the same argument now applies to Pitt. They deserve to be there, based on the system in place. If not for that system, there is no way in hell they get into such a bowl. The system allows them to play in a bowl, but they are by no means one of the best in the country. That is all I am saying.

A "Beltran" like CFer for Garland?
Beck, I think the bottom line is that you and I have differences of opinion on the amount of risk a team should take on a player of marginal character, which is okay. I tend to fall on the more conservative side. In no way am I intimating that you are in favor of taking on anyone if the talent is there, regardless of the sitation. My guess is that we are both probably pretty close to the line that divides our opinions, just on opposite sides.

Did I not acknowledge that? Twice?

A "Beltran" like CFer for Garland?
His teammates in Cleveland didn't "rally around him". And since when is Frank considered a "strong black leader?" Is Carl, the guy that was considered fat, out of shape and lazy last year a leader by example? I know Bradley has talent. I am just sticking to my guns that he is a risky proposition. Lots of players are good when a team is playing well or in playoff contention. Orlando Cabrera was great for Boston. But he wasn't thought of as a player who "goes all out" in Montreal.

So clubhouse cancers are okay as long as they are cheap?????

Those two quotes sure don't make it seem that is exactly what you were trying to say. Perhaps choose your words more carefully next time?

BCS Bids, Getting Closer, Utah!?
I guess we look at things differently. Like I said, they deserve it only because of the system that is in place. There is no way they could make a case for being on of the top 8 teams in the country. BC played a crap schedule, I don't care who left their conference. While they are a solid team, I do not feel they deserve to be anywhere near a BCS bowl. JMHO

Be carful.... many teams play great in November and December and something goes wrong later. I like the Illinois team, but I'd keep your expectations on the ground. Case in point, two years ago, IU looked like world beaters for their first six games or so, coming off an appearance in the championship game. Not long after, Davis gave too much rope to Bracey Wright and he tried to be the star, changing how they played, and the losing began. I am not saying that specific thing will happen with the Illini, but things can and often do change for teams playing too well early on.

why I will not by tickets this year
Sorry, Nuke, but this guy's rant screams of someone either not smart enough to understand how things work, is wound way too tight or just flat out has too much time on their hands. Ranting about refusing to buy tickets because of what has happened to this point, does not strike me as being anywhere close to a fan, unless you want to add bandwagon in front of it.

I know we won't agree on Bradley and that is fine. But there are many that would argue that Frank is or would be a good influence on any player. I don't want to get into that whole argument again, because it has been had before, but assuming Frank would be a father figure is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.
