  1. Your argument doesn't make sense. Specifically not if you consider the Indians bullpen is largely responsible for them losing so many games and none of their all-stars are from the bullpen. More generally, a team could have two starting pitchers that are all-stars and the rest of the rotation average at best. They could have 2 or 3 great hitters in the middle of their lineup but no leadoff hitter and weak 7-9 hitters. That scenario would give you a team with 5 all-stars, yet still not being a great team.

Why would this belong in the Pale Hose Talk forum??
  3. I don't understand why it is so hard to grasp the concept that what place a team in does not have to equate with how many all-stars they have. Sure the Yankees have a team full of all-stars, but their payroll allows them to do that. Other teams win games playing as just that, a TEAM. Yes, it takes great individual performances to do that, but if a team is well-balanced, no superstars are necessary. I believe either Kong or Frank could have gotten into the game this year. I also think the fact they essentially play the same position hurt both of their chances. I think Shingo deserves to be in it, but when all of this voting took place, he was pretty much still a setup guy. I see reasonable arguments for why the Sox only have one player when looking at the others that made it. I don't see any type of bias at all. s*** happens.... get over it..... time to look toward the 2nd half!

    More likely a re-hashed rumor.......
  5. And before anyone jumps on Torry for the choosing of Westbrook..... Westbrook was invited because he was next on the list of voting by players, coaches and managers. Pedro Martinez was first invited to replace Schilling, who wants to rest a deep bone bruise in his right ankle, but declined. Taken from ESPN.com...... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1837627
  6. 20 minutes??? I can't recall going to a heavily attended sporting event where you could get out of a parking lot any quicker than that....... That's what happens when 30,000+ attend a game, my man...... Tip for the future..... go to the bar for a beer or three after the game..... the traffic will be plenty cleared by that point.
  7. Torre alone did not pick the 5 players for the final spot. Those players were picked by Major League Baseball. Even when picking the replacement players, the manager no longer has total say in the matter. The fact the Yankees have 8 all-stars has less to do with Torre and more to do with Steinbrenner. When you have a payroll of $200 million dollars, you basically have a team full of all-stars, which is what the Yankees have. One could argue Gordon, but his numbers are great. They are definitely deserving. Keep in mind, the manager doesn't see every player in the league all the time. The only time Torre saw Shingo was early in the year, when he wasn't the closer and when he was struggling somewhat. That is what he has to go on other than just numbers on paper. I guarantee you his personal impressions of a guy will outweigh "numbers" most of the time. It is human nature. Picking Vazquez to be a starter to replace another injured starter is fine. Vazquez is an all-star calibur player. The only players Torre had anything to do with choosing are Gordon and Vazquez. All of the other Yankees were chosen by the fans or the players. When the Sox have a payroll of $200 million they can have 8 all-stars too.
  8. Isn't the PCL more of a home run hitter's league? I'm not sure how much light air and smaller ballparks would help an average hitter........

Don't forget Munoz, along with the departed Reed, will be playing in the Future's Game on Sunday at 3:00 CST. ESPN2 will carry the game.
  10. gracias amigo
  11. I agree.... many good hitters develop power after they got to the big leagues. I wouldn't put 20-25 a year or more past the possibilities with Reed.
  12. we know we signed him...... but not sure what happened after Jun 19
  13. There isn't really any place for him, unfortunately....... Another note...... I believe Torres got hurt last night. Not sure how long he may be out. The Barons radio guy said that over the air, saying he got the info from Charlotte.
  14. I say continue on, Cheat...... if he doesn't want to read it, he can skip right on past.
  15. He is on Charlotte's roster. He has only made on piinch-running appearance (6/19) so I don't know if he got hurt right away or what the deal is.
  16. Ummm, I only counted four players....... Bajenaru hasn't pitched well lately. He is nursing a groin injury and his command has been way off. He'll need to heal and get back on track before he gets promoted.
  17. It will take a lot more from the Sox to get Ortiz and Jones than just Maggs..... more like Maggs, Rauch and another player.
  18. That's not fair........ this was the first day he had been back with the team. A reporter sees him for the first time in a week and asks him a question. He answers. Seems pretty simple to me.
  19. Nope..... just two outings.. He doesn't have anywhere near the velocity he needs. My guess is he is done for the year.
  20. He has a groin injury. Hasn't been healthy for awhile. My guess is they are going to rest him this week and couple it with three days off for the all-star break next week to get him back to full strength. He has been pitching through it for awhile, not sure how long though.
  21. So far, the Sox top 4 affiliates are winning and Bristol is tied 0-0 in the 5th inning. Birmingham up 1-0 after 1 inning..... Charlotte up 5-0 in the 5th...... Winston-Salem is up 6-2 in the 4th..... Kanny up 3-0 in the 7th.
  22. That was me..... I'll burn it and hope it works. Some people have had trouble getting it to work. I finally got it to work using Windows Media Player. I had totally forgotten. And who is "we"? Am I getting ambused? lol
  23. No one knows how or why, just that it is a Barons cap in the video. The song is called "Everytime" so you can check it out for yourself. The cap clearly shows the Minor League logo on the back, solidifying that it is indeed the Barons cap.
  24. s***, refresh my memory........
  25. I know......... LOL
