Carl Everett
Jim, you are being awfully generous... 98 was an average year .296-15-76 RBI..... He was good in 99 and 2000..... sucked in 2001. 2002 was also not a good year at .267-16-62. He bounced back in 2003. The way I see it, he is an average player who has had three good years out of 8 in his career. He is coming off an injury and has barely played this season. Can't play defense. Those aren't good odds if you ask me. I'd pass, but that is just me.

All I am saying is I think Sox fans will be royally disappointed if Everett is acquired.... Call it a guy feeling, but this guy is as sporadic as they come, making him way overrated and too risky in my mind. I don't have another solution for you, but just because there isn't another one that immediately comes to mind, doesn't make acquiring Everett a good idea. The lesser of two evils is still an evil.

That's where you are wrong. Look at his career numbers. Everett has had more average seasons than good ones. He mixes in a good season here or there and everyone thinks he is a star. Lat year was his good year. He has had only one occurrence in his career where he has put two good years back-to-back. Obviously he has been hurt this year, but I am willing to bet, based on history, that he will be very mediocre in the 2nd half this year. Don't be fooled by a couple of big seasons.

Just say no to Carl Everett!!!

Morse hot for San Antonio......
Mike Morse's average is now up to .275 and he has 14 RBI in 13 games with the Missions. He hit a grand slam tonight, his first HR in SA.

NO idea what the hell happened with Bristol....... I think there were some missed extra points or safeties or something..... not sure how they got to a 16-11 loss...... looking further, it is obvious that there were lots of fumbles and interceptions - 6 errors for each team......... That game must have been painful to watch..... the boxscore was so painful I am not even going to link it........ if you want to know how bad they were, look it up yourself. I can't contribute to baseball that bad!

Charlotte drops game to AAA Yankees, 9-3.... Munoz wasn't too bad, but did walk 4. Only one run was earned, but it looks as if it were due to his own error.... Jose Santiago blew the game wide open, allowing 5 runs in the 7th inning.... nothing interesting to report regarding the offense....... Charlotte Boxscore

Birmingham wins 5-3..... Nice outing for Villacis w/ 0 BB and 9 K in 7 IP. Spidale two more hits, an rbi and his 21st stolen base...... Martel is a nice AA player... he's a grinder....... Stewart showed tonight why the Sox like him behind the plate so much...... Their SS, Nelson Castro who has good speed, got a good jump attempting to steal..... Stewart caught the pitch and released the ball faster than any catcher I have ever seen (including Quintero) and the throw was 6 inches off the ground, 6 inches in front of the bag to nail him easily...... It was a thing of beauty.... Barons Box

Spidale's double would have been a HR in most parks. Deep fly balls die in between the gaps at the Hoover Met this time of year..... Andy Gonzalez also had a deep drive (with the bases loaded, I might add) that the CF was able to run down just before the warning track in deep CF. That is either a HR or off the wall in most parks.

Bonds
I'd like to see Mariano Rivera face Bonds. It would be interesting to see if he could get away with his cutter boring in on Bonds hands..

Rick Ballou Show says
I heard to get Beltran, all we would have to give up are Rauch, Thomas Brice and Yasny. I say make the deal NOW!

Am I the Only one?
The Sox know he is too good for Bristol. After missing time in HS ball, they will proceed slowly with him. If he continues to dominate (and they expect he will) a promotion to Kannapolis is likely. He is not a big strong kid and has a relatively frail body, so there is no need to rush him, especially after not pitching for awhile before the draft.

For all-star games perhaps??? Southern League game is same time as the MLB game (dumb, dumb, dumb idea) and AAA game is at 6:00 Wednesday on ESPN2. The Southern League game is on CSS which is picked up by Comcast in the Southeast and by some Charter areas.

Don't think........ it can only hurt the ballclub!

Hawks ranting....
Why knock Wedge? You don't think he has got that team playing to a higher level than anyone expected? Hell, they would be in first place right now were it not for a crappy bullpen.
