Dealt against the Marlins tonight..... 6 IP 2 H 0R 2 BB 7 K He was hitting 97 and looking nasty in the highlights. Not bad for a guy who sucks!
  2. Well, okay, they still have three outs to get, but they are leading 6-2. Huntsville has all but given up. More details to follow....
  3. That's what I don't get...... If you are going to move a guy to a different spot in the rotation, move him to a different spot in the batting order, etc., why in the hell would you not call the player into your office and let him know what you are thinking and why you plan to make a change, BEFORE you speak to the press?? At worst, if JM was asked the question before he talked to Mark, he could have said "We're discussing different possibilites the off day has afforded us, but no decision has yet been made."
  4. Like most other tourists, the WTC was a popular spot for visiting baseball players as well.
  5. Gotta eat em hot! The white creme filled with chocolate icing are pretty damned solid too, even the next day.

if you have ever hit with an aluminum bat then you would recall that when you hit nice dingers it has a smooth reverb on your hands.. when you dont hit it just so you get that gosh aweful vibration that rocks your hands badly Sounds like a wood bat, not aluminum..... wood is much less forgiving. Not sure why Hawk would describe it like that....
  7. Hell with the game....... Krispy Kreme blows Dunkin Donuts away! NO contest, my friends...
  8. My heart just skipped about 3 beats. I didn't hear anything about Tom's hammy... I heard he put some swiss and mustard on it, but that's all. You are talking about the sandwich he ate for last night's spread, aren't you??

No and no, but it's was original to this site. I thought the board could use a little humor too. Are you really Rex Hudler? Nope, real name is Miles..... Miles O'Toole. Cousin is Phil McCracken.... Have a sister that is Anita Dickens.... Her husband is Mike Hunt.....
  10. The "next one" will be better. Eventually
  11. You know, I usually don't complain about Manuel and the decisions he and his staff make, and I don't really have a problem with the decision that is being made here. But I do have a problem with the way it has been handled. Why annonuce Buehrle will be pushed back a day and then allow the pitcher to change your mind?? In my mind, they should have sat down with Mark and discussed all of this before they made a decision. Then, they should have either announced that Mark may be pushed back, or that he will be pushed back. If they say he will (like they did) then they shouldn't change their mind and they should have stuck with the decision. If JM and Coop met with Mark before they made their announcement, then they should have had enough balls to stick with their decision. Mark should have had his chance to sway their opinion BEFORE they went to the press announcing the decision. Either way, being wishy washy like this doesn't look good. Yes, I know in the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter, but it can't hurt to look like you have a clue sometimes.
  12. You are correct, Honel is back with Winston-Salem, for their playoff run. He and Ryan Wing have pitched limited innings the last two nights so they can set their rotation. Birmingham's rotations (barring injury or something else unforeseen) is: Pacheco Yofu An Castillo Malone Not sure how they will set it up for the playoffs, but my hunch is that Bullard starting tonight had something to do with that. I didn't listen early in the game, so I am not sure, just making a guess.
  13. OR......... maybe its just the law of averages that good players don't stay in slumps long and that ups usually follow downs??? Nah, it has to do the with the boards and guys getting called all kinds of names that breaks the slump.
  14. Rex is my new Minor League consultant... lol welcome aboard

Please tell me you aren't 16 and thinking that name is original?? It's humorous, I'll give you that, but then again, it was funny 20 years ago when I first heard it.

I agree........ I have no problem with pulling that trade.... I would have liked to keep Hummel, but you have to give up something to get something.
  17. Looks like the wolves were wearing silver and black tonight!
  18. The magic number is two........ and Jim, did you forget to mention that you made a spot start tonight and kicked ass??? For those interested, Mr. Bullard went 5 innings allowing three hits and just one run while striking out eight and walking three. I wish I would have seen it but it sounded like one hell of an outing. Mr. Reed added a hit, two walks, two runs scored and a sacrifice. His average is at .408. Full Box Score

I disagree. Hummel will equal Graffanino at worst. I'm not saying he is as good now, but Hummel will at least be able to fill that kind of role. I am not commenting on the trade being good or bad, just that I think Hummel will be a solid utility guy at worst. He coudl be better than that in the right situation.
  20. I know he struggled in the 5th inning (the only inning I caught on radio). He gave up a single and the guy got thrown out at second. Then gave up another single. Then an out. Then went 3-0 on a guy and ended up getting him out after he fouled off several. I believe he walked the next guy and got the next to pop out. If he started the 6th anything like the 5th, my guess is regardless of pitch count, Wally just went and got him. Wally isn't playing around against Huntsville in this series.
  21. I have never heard of it either. I know some guys go back to school, but I have never heard of them bailing before the season. Then again, most of the time, the season is over by Labor Day and they could probably go back then, only a week or two late. My guess is this was something that was negotiated in their contracts.
  22. He is a minor league veteran who has played partial seasons in the Big Leagues with Detroit and San Diego. He was a top prospect in the Southern League back in 1999. He would be a decent guy for a Major League team to hold onto in AAA as insurance if help was needed temporarily. Good hitter, who actually got off to a very slow start this year.

I agree that Honel needs to go step-by-step. Actually, I agree with your whole post. LOL
  24. Four that come to mind are Steve Finley, Rusty Greer, Darrin Erstad and Mark Kotsay. I don't think you could say he is a clone of any of those guys, but I see some similar attributes in each. He is definitely a hard-nosed player and he is a guy that when you see him, you think "He just looks like a player". To me that is a hell of a compliment, especially when he is backing it up like he is. Any other players in that mold you guys can think of?
