  1. June 13 was his first start this year. Porblem is Winson-Salem has been jammed with guys who are ahead of him and with some guys who could have or should have been in AA by now. Honel, Wing, Francisco, Allen and Phillips are all guys that could be ready to move up. Phillips was supposed to start the season in AA and Allen was considered for spot until late in camp. The other guys have pitched really well and moved ahead of those two.
  2. I definitely see Stumm as a guy the Sox will protect. They say he just has nasty stuff and if he stays healthy the sky is the limit for him. He has just had lots of bad luck.

Wasn't Carlton Fisk's rookie in 1972? Wasn't Cecil Cooper on that card as well or am i thinking of someone else. I know Cooper had someone else that was also a great player on his rookie card. I was a big Coop fan back in the early 80's. I had one of those, but have no idea where it is now.

Josh, I don't even know where the cards i have left are. Most likely up in my parents attic or something (how many times have you heard that story? lol). When I was a youngin, my mom made me give away all my cards because they were just sitting in a grocery bag (this was before plastic sheets and holders became the norm) taking up space. The two bags I gave away had mostly 1975-1977 cards in them. Then, I started collecting again and buying old cards, one at a time. I had a nice little stack of about 30 cards or so which included all the best players from the 1960's. I had a '65 Mantle and Mays, a '66 Rose, '60 Aaron and Musial, '67 Bob Gibson and so on. I had them all from Koufax and Drysdale to Marichal and Whitey Ford. So as any dumb 12 or 13 year old would do, I sold them because I wanted an Atari (insert joke here). The asshole that bought them talked me down to $75 for the stack too. I was asking $125. I still shake my head at what those cards would be worth today, not only $$ but just having them. Hell, i'd probably have them framed. lol
  5. MSF, i just don't think that Everett was a necessary piece to the puzzle. Yes, he has contributed, but who is to say that someone else would not have? I may be wrong and if I am then great, that means the Sox are winning and he is contributing. I just think that Alomar was the only necessary move and that the Sox would have won without him. We'll never really know, but you gotta give me some credit for sticking to my guns on this one. I have had the same stance since the night of the trade and will keep it until I have to admit I was wrong, which, when the time is right, I will if necessary. And at least give me a little credit for the bag of balls, case of old style and vienna beef hot dogs line. That was pretty creative, don't ya think? LOL
  6. I believe this is how it will work with Frank next year...... Frank has the right to renew his option with the Sox at $6 million. If he declines, the Sox have the option to renew his contract at $8 million. If both decline, he is a free agent and can walk away. I know the $6 M and $8 M are the correct totals, but someone correct me if I am wrong on how the options work. Note: The option values for 2005 are $8M for Frank and $11M for the Sox. In 2006, Frank's option is $10M and the Sox option is $12M. Frank can also receive up to $2M in bonuses with a Top 10 MVP finish. I think Frank still has an escape clause of some sort if the Sox pick up the $8 Million option next year. I just don't remember what has to transpire for him to invoke it. That is correct. I forgot to include that..... He can void the whole contract after this year...

That is how I acquired the '83 Topps set. Pack by pack, with the exception of about 12 commons that I picked up at a card show in 90. As for the Baron's set, yes it is very similar. In fact, that thought crossed my mind before you pointed it out the first time. That's a nice looking set of cards. Your Gary Peters card is a 1966 Topps, right?

  18. I hope Sweeney is OK. If he has to sit out a long time b/c of this injury then i'm gonna be pissed. I'm sick of our good players in the Rookie leagues getting hurt. i.e. Anderson, Schnurstein, Sweeney, and Haigwood(injury happened before season). I just want to see our guys play and not have to sit out because of injuries. I think Sweeney alright. May be out for a short while. A day-to-day thing. Just a hunch.
  19. Stumm has been excellent this year, until last night.

He definitely has a chance to be a solid situational lefty if he gets the chance to pitch. If he gets that chance, I think he will be fine. He could also be a guy that ends up stuck in AAA too.

I'm with you Yasny, the card collecting game changed when all of a sudden there were 15 companies producing them, they went to $5 a pack and all the special insert cards and series started. It became too confusing. It used to be fun to try and complete a set, buying them pack by pack. I hung in there when Donruss and Fleer joined the fray. When Upper Deck hopped in there, then Bowman again, Score, and Topps started the Stadium Club, yada, yada yada, I had to get out. I do have the Barons 2003 team set, however. Very reminiscient (sp?) of the 1975 Topps set (Brett, Yount, Rice and Lynn rookies)...
  22. To clarify......... I don't think that adding Everett was a good move, even if it were for a bag of balls, a case of Old Style and a pack of Vienna Beef hot dogs.
