  7. Rex Hudler replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's good in theory, but if the guy is pitching well, you leave him in. No ifs ands or buts about it.
  8. He has had a great career, but he had the reputation of a "me first" kind of player long before that night.
  9. I don't have any inside info, but I do know this is the kid's first year of full season baseball. The baseball season is a grind. Players have bumps and bruises all along the way that they play through and the fans never know about. Their bodies get tired if they don't take care of themselves well and even when they do, fatigue can be a factor in short intervals during the season. I really know very little about Webster at all, so none of the above may apply. But the points are valid and do affect how a player does, which is the reason the larger the sample size, generally the better a player's ability can be judged.
  10. He just may. But the spark he provides, MAY just be what was needed to wake up the rest of the lineup. If that happens, they won't be quite as dependent on him.

  12. Ummm, no
  13. They faced a pretty tough lefty tonight. Pena doesn't have great stuff, but has decent movement and he threw strikes. He kept them off balance. I didn't see many real good swings against him tonight from anyone. A lot of weak groundouts. His defense didn't help him either. Birmingham is a lefty dominated lineup. Sometimes they will struggle against lefthanders.
  14. Tonight is the first time I saw him. Haven't really seen enough to say much yet. I do know he throws hard, but has had problems with control in the past. He was blowing guys away tonight.

For some reason, I don't see Porzio in the category of someone who could become an all-star for the first time at the age of 40, but I could be wrong... That's not the point and was never the point. The comparison is that he is a similar type pitcher. Is anyone saying that Porzio is a future all-star? No But then again, neither was anyone saying that about Moyer 10 years ago.
  17. He didn't get credited with a stolen base due to defensive indifference. Your point is quite valid, however.
  18. Rex Hudler replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was thinking a poor man's Jamie Moyer. LOL Jamie Moyer wasn't always an all-star and was not very highly regarded until he found himself around the age of 33. He is a lefty with average stuff that knows how to pitch. I think it is a very fair comparison.
  19. They play decent baseball there too. But they are like the JV to the Big Ten when it comes to hoops and the gridiron.
  20. big 10 baseball??????? now i have a problem respecting your knowledge on baseball. Work with me LDF, will ya? LOL ok you are on probation, i am now going to look at you quasi sox post a little different. big 10 augh sec is the best. Don't get me started LDF. What are you? An LSU fan?
  21. Where are you from ss2k? I think we have discussed this before, haven't we?
  22. I was talking more along the lines of Hoosier Hoops in general.
  23. I'm glad you admit that. I didn't want to have to be the guy living in Alabama to have to school you when it comes to Hoosier Hoops. LOL
  24. Indiana HS basketball sucks since they went to classes. It is nowhere near what it used to be.
  25. Big West baseball is what its about. Fullerton and Long Beach State. Give it up! You might have an argument if you wanna bring up Big 12 baseball. I'm just saying its one of the best baseball conferences out their and it gets no credit. UC RIverside is building a pretty good program too. And Mark my words, UC Irvine will become a powerhouse baseball program. Either way Fullerton and Beach have two of the best programs in the country. Your right though, SEC is the best. I'd take the Big West over the Pac10 though. I won't argue with there. The Big West does play great baseball. There are several great conferences out west. The thing that makes the Big 12 and especially the SEC different is the support they get from the fans. Not all of the teams draw real well (there is Kentucky and Vandy), but despite those teams they average over 3,000 fans a game, including non-conference games. LSU averages a hearty 7,478 and Mississippi State averages 6,472. Baseball is huge and fans travel every weekend in RV's following the teams around. The SEC Baseball Tournament is held here in Birmingham at the Barons stadium and every year they draw 100,000-125,000 fans for the 5 day tournament. This year, they sold out an RV lot of 250 spaces over a month before the tournament. It's a pretty cool event. I have been to a few games.
