An addendum to that is that i think if they take Malone, then they cannot take a second pitcher so it would be either Yan and Malone or Webster and Malone. My final guess is Yan, Pacheco and Rupe.

My understanding is that Texas will take either Yan or Webster, plus one or two pitchers, depending on which they take. Apparently they really like Malone. They think he could be the closest to the Majors and with the most upside if they can turn him around.

Today was easily Cotts best outing of the year. He faced the minimum through 7 innings, giving up just one hit (erased on a double play). He had retired 19 straight going into the 8th. He gave up a 2B and a single to start the 8th which tied the score. Dunn relieved and allowed the other runner to score, which was credited to Cotts. Great outing and a really tough one to lose. If I am correct, Cotts only threw around 75 pitches.

Matt Bruback is a pitcher in the Cubs system. He was at AA West Tenn last year, don't recall if he was there earlier this year.

Just to clarify, I never meant for my comment to be anti-KW (which I am). Some trades are good, some are bad, some are lucky and some are unlucky. This particular trade was lucky because not even the Sox believed pacheco would be very good, at least not this fast. Kirk Champion, the Sox Minor League Pitching Coordinator was on the Barons broadcast the other night and said as much. He openly said that Pacheco was the last pitcher to make the Barons this year and was slated to be the first one to go back down when needed. He started the season in a mopup role in the bullpen, pitching only in games that were not close. He pitched well in several outings and after injuries changed the roles of many Barons pitchers, he got to pitch in a few closer games. The need then arose for a spot starter and he got the nod. He has been in the rotation ever since.

Hands down I go with Pacheco. He has just been lights out in AA this year and has electric stuff. I've heard Diaz has electric stuff, and he's done much better since becoming a full time starter, but I have some doubts. Diaz seems to have hit that wall called the Charlotte Knights. i guess it depends on whether Pacheco can go around the wall or climb over it quickly. Actually, they are both very similar pitchers. Both still a little rough around the edges. pacheco still has problems with consistency. In the first inning of his last start, he threw 10 pitches, struck out the side and looked completely unhittable. In the second inning, he walked a guy and went deep into counts with two others because he missed with his pitches. Diaz was very good, but would tend to disappear for an inning on occasion. Unfortunately, those often turn into innings where they give up 3 or 4 runs. My first instinct is to give the edge to Pacheco, but i believe that is because he is fresher on my mind. Both have excellent stuff, yet have hurdles to jump.

Great Falls White Sox center-fielder Ricardo Nanita's hitting streak came to an end at 30 games last night. Nanita was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before being hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. Great Falls had five hits in the first inning and score six times on their way to a 9-7 win over the Missoula Osprey. Nanita’s streak is a Pioneer League record and the longest in professional baseball this season. He fell one game short of tying Kevin Hoopers' 31-game hitting streak last year for the second longest in the National Association this century.

I'm not bashing Kenny at all. Just saying that sometimes luck is a factor and in this case was a big factor, along with minor league instruction.

I was just going to say that Francisco certainly made his case last night. I wouldn't mind seeing Pacheco blow up on Thursday, but my guess is they have pretty much made up their minds.

In my eyes that was one of Kenny's luckiest. There was no good about it.

You are correct that Glover and especially Sanders are hard to evaluate because they have rarely pitched. In the FWIW department, here are Rick White's monthly ERA's. April 4.36 May 14.98 June 1.35 July 4.16 Interestingly enough, he only allowed earned runs in 3 of his 9 April appearances. Only allowed an unearned run in one additional outing.

Last year Hardin walked about one batter every two innings (similar to Cotts this year). This year he was about one every three. We get that improvement from Cotts and we'll have something. They are very different type of pitchers, however, with similar results.

He was drafted out of Central Arizona JC. Let's wait until he makes his way around the league once or twice before we annoint him the next coming.

Miles is hitting .241 in 20 games during the month of July, so yes, he is in a slump. He previously hit .305, .330 and .314 in April, May and June.
