The pitcher was standing ON the mound, thank you.

Rocky Biddle
A s***potful would be 6 runs, 5 of which are earned in 1.1 innings (April 17 for the curious). Biddle has allowed a run in a greand total of 5 of his 20 appearances. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

Have no idea. Granted they all weren't line drives, but they all counted.

Dybas Pleads Not Guilty
It's simple... His lawyer will argue he is not guilty of the charge and will try to plea it down to a lesser charge. If not, the lawyer will argue that Dybas did no more than the other guys that ran out on the field other than "accidently" running into the umpire. They will use the fact he was drunk and not coherent and that he never intended to attack anyone. By pleading not guilty, they are not saying that he wasn't wrong, that he didn't do anything wrong or that he wasn't stupid and drunk and disorderly. Just that he is not guilty AS charged.

Rays Top Prospect Out For Year
Turning him into a pitcher and starting over with him might work. I think the kid just crumbled under expectations and pressure, much of it self-imposed, I'm sure.

Steff, are we still talking about baseball???

Lugo
Please be aware that I was not advocating signing Lugo, just thinking out loud. Regardless of accusations or convictions, just say no to Lugo. Time to think more quietly Jim. LOL

barons box score for tonite....
I didn't think about it at the time, but I wonder if the manager arguing and getting thrown out might not have been part of it? They did it right after that I believe. I'll be honest with you, it caught me and everyone around by surprise. None of us saw it.

barons box score for tonite....
Items of note: Shaffer had 3 hits in the same game....... Barons had 23 hits!..... including one or more in every inning..... Durham up to .270......... Hankins led off bottom of 9th with game tying HR....... At one point, Barons had two runs yet had 13 hits along with 2 West Tenn errors....... Barons won game against D Jaxx's DH. With the doubleheader yesterday, they ran out of pitchers........ Barons 12th inning........ (West Tenn DH enters game as pitcher - throws all fastballs) Maldonado walked Alvarez flew out Maldonado gets balked to second DJaxx manager gets tossed arguing balk call Maldonado gets tagged out leading off second on hidden ball trick Aceves walked Shaffer with infield single, Aceves moves up to 2B Durham hits a hot smash to 3B with third baseman making an amazing diving pick..... 3Bman gets up and has plenty of time to make a good throw..... skips it past first baseman and Aceves scores winning run... Game time a painful 4:01 Interesting to say the least....

Cotts finally has bad outing
Unfortunately, high pitch counts have haunted him all year. As stellar as he has been pitching, he still hasn't gone more than 6 innings. He'll have to learn to get more outs early in the count and stop going 3-2 on almost every hitter or else he will struggle at higher levels. It's not the runs and hits I am worried about at this point. It is the walks and inability to go more than 5 or 6 innings per start even when he is dominating that are alarming.

Eddi Lantigua
Lantigua was a guy that had a chance to make the big leagues. He failed last year when he started in AAA because he wasn't ready for AAA. He was supposed to be the Barons opening day starter, but because of other moves (Rauch starting in chicago being one), Lantigua was the guy to bump up to Charlotte. When he came back to Birmingham he was lights out. He was nails in the playoffs. Won 2 of the 3 wins in the Division Series and then pitched very, very well in the Championship game on short rest. Still, he has to prove himself at a higher level before he can be deemed ready for the Majors, which may or may not happen. Cotts has what it takes, but still has a lot to learn. He walks way too many and goes too deep into counts on the guys he does get out. His last 3 outings included: Near 100 pitches in 5 IP, 97 pitches in 5 IP and 81 pitches in 3 IP tonight. If he gets that part of his game solved, the rest is there. If not, then he will struggle above AA and possibly even in AA later this year.

When will Ruddy yan go to Birmingham?
Yan won't make it to Birmingham until there is a clamp on required playing time for Josh Shaeffer. If Yan comes up, then Sandoval and then Reyes has to play and that would cut time from Shaeffer. Don't see that happening anytime soon, unfortunately. Think Yan and Reyes at the top of the Barons order wouldn't be nice to see??

Eddi Lantigua
Interesting, I had heard he had been banned for life by the commisioner's office. They must have gotten some things cleared up. I don't think anyone knows the answer to your question. Except KW, Cashman and some of their key aides.

Steff and HSC
MOVE ON PEOPLE............ The final word is NOT necessary
-
Steff and HSC
Ugh, move on and grow up. HSC, quit egging him on. And Bmr, I have never seen the words "I'm not fat" more in my life. I don't care if you are or not, but it seems kind of weird you would go on and on and on, when it seems it would be eaiser to just give her a "whatever" and move on.

Steff and HSC
Hey, you two.......... how about moving on with the conversation? Or starting your own thread that we don't have to read??

Wake up those bats!!
I'll tell you how to wake up the damned bats.. Bribe one of the clubhouse attendants to put a few windup alarm clocks in the bat rack and under the seats in the dugout. Set them for 5 minutes before game time. They will either find it hilarious enough that they will relax and just go out and play or piss them off enough to want to kill someone, and hopefully that would be vented at the starting pitcher for the other team. I'ts really simple. It's all ballbearings these days!

Jon Adkins
FWIW, I have heard from coaches that Adkins does have very good stuff. Obviously, one needs more than just "stuff".

He might get back to B'ham. But he is not a prospect.

barons box score for yesterday...
I disagree. I think there are plenty of hitters out there that can be obtained. The Sox have had Borchard, Crede, Rowand among other position players. The Sox AA squad is just full of veteran guys right now. I think it is much more important to stockpile arms, especially since many end up with arm injuries. Hitters come much cheaper than pitchers. Pitchers can also be used to obtain hitters. If there is a strong position player out there, then the Sox will draft him. But the past few years, the draft has been pretty weak as far as position players unless you are at the top of the draft. There are still several in Class A that look good. Webster is a legit prospect. Several other guys such as Spidale, Gonzalez, Reed, Yan, Schnurstein, and Thomas Brice are worth keeping an eye on.

New bandwagon forming
FWIW, Borchard is strking out in 17% of his at bats this year as opposed to 32% last year. He only has 3 BB and that is a concern. I think his lack of power is due to his wrist injury. Note, Borchard hit fine in a pitchers park in Birmingham. On a semi-related note, notice he hasn't done much since he has been under Greg Walker. I do know there were several players last year in Charlotte that didn't like Walker or at least felt he wasn't able to help them.
