I know we have been through this before, but put yourself in his shoes. What would you honestly expect him to say in the papers? What would you say? If you step back emotionally and think about this logically, he is saying exactly what he SHOULD say. It is not his responsibility to berate his players and how they play in the press. All that will do is cause them to lose respect for him and things will get worse. No one here knows how he is handling things in the clubhouse. No one is in there. No one knows whether he is doing the right things or not. Manuel may well end up getting fired and taking the blame at some point, but the blame here should not be his. Ultimately he will be judged by wins and losses, but if they do turn this thing around and he stays, I expect every person on this board to post their own version of a "I was an idiot, I overreacted without having all of the facts" speech.

Just a guess, but I think we are looking at least a 2-hour rain delay. Sox should slow down so they don't get 5 innings finished before that point, in case they can't finish it. Big storms about 20-25 miles away.

FWIW, those are the kind of plays you see with Backman managing. Many times they make it, but occasionally they look stupid trying. He manages very aggressively. KWF, Colon has been in the 90 range for the most part. He did hit 95 in the first on one pitch.

Jon Miller just said that the wind is blowing in from the lakefront and bringing rain with it. Sorry Jon, but stick to baseball. The rain is coming from the southwest and last I looked, the lake wasn't southwest of USCF. The heaviest rain is over the park now with the window coming soon. However there is a sign of thunderstorms developing that will close that window more quickly than previously thought. This potential thunderstorms are only about 20 miles from the park.

Anyone who throws that hard, especially with his past record (it's not great, but still it's a lot of saves), has value. Yes, but it is fair to say that he has much less value after the way he has pitched the past month than if he had been more effective. If you were an opposing GM, would you pay top dollar in prospects for a demoted closer with an ERA over 7.00? Nope, you'd "take him off the Sox hands" and do them a favor by giving them a decent, not great prospect.

Yes, but it also takes guys willing to give themselves up and willing to sacrifice for the good of the club. The Barons bunted a lot last year, and it didn't matter if it was the cleanup hitter or not. You won't get away with that in the Majors.

Doesn't look good for tonight. I just looked at the radar and while it is okay right now, it will get worse. There is a pocket of light to steady rain approaching the Comiskey area now and then a window of dryness following that. After that window, however, there is a large mass of thunderstorms. The beginning of the mass of storms is about 60-70 miles away, moving from the southwest to the northeast in a patch headed directly for the city. It is possible that the storms could break up but as of now they are a pretty large mass with some potentially severe weather. I am generally an optimist, but it doesn't look good for an hour and a half to two hours from now.
