  1. You're theory would also create a situation worse off than having a "bad" closer. Bullpen guys work much better with defined roles. They are better when they don't have to guess when they are going to get to pitch.
  2. Have you looked at the Red Sox lately and seen how "closer by committee" works? That is basically what you are getting at.
  3. A Millwood for Josh Paul trade would sound pretty sweet right now, don't ya think? LOL
  4. I must agree. Heather I was slightly aroused after reading your comments.
  5. HSC, what happened to the pre and /pre? They go in 's remember?
  6. With Josh Paul and Tetsu Yofu headed to Charlotte, someone else from the Knights will have to go. Yofu gives them 11 pitchers again (not including Wright) so most likely it will be a position player. They had two other catchers so it could be one of them or it could be Tommy Nicholson. Or someone could be traded. The DL also could be used. If Borchard isn't ready to go, they could put him on the DL retractively to buy them a few more days.
  7. He didn't give up any runs. Why would you characterize that as a bad debut? So what he had two walks. Give the guy a break, its his big league debut.
  8. Ah, glad you explained that. I was thinking you had some insight on some moves with the ML roster. That I might too...........
  9. i take it that means his broken bone in his hand is feeling better???? i have not been keeping up on these things lately sorry..........kinda slacking and busy with the last homestand i havent had much time to look it up ......thanks......... HSC, he came back to the lineup over the weekend. He was day-to-day so he must be able to play with a little pain.
  10. Both AA and AAA rosters have to be trimmed from 24 to 23 by early May. Plus, a promotion or two from Birmingham to Charlotte and several guys on the DL that will need to come off.
  11. Many moves to come in the next 2-3 weeks, beginning now.
  12. Nothing but injuries..... First shoulder, then elbow, I believe. Could be backwards...
  13. The moves begin.... watch for the domino effect!
  14. Actually it was a really ugly game with many missed opportunities. But at this point, a win is a win.
  15. Coach Brownlee will motivate the players by getting rid of them if they don't do things his way. Right or wrong, give him time and he will produce a winner. He has a love/hate relationship with his players. Some days you love him and wouldn't play for anyone else and other days you can't stand him. But he knows how to win with limited resources.
  16. Hey Heather, how is baseball season going at ISU? I noticed that Evansville beat them 3 out of 4 and they aren't very good, so I had guessed they were struggling? Heard any rumblings about Coach Brownlee yet? Has he pissed everyone off or do they like him? I was kind of torn when they played Evansville because I although I played at Evansville, I played for Coach Brownlee. Give me the scoop!
  17. Hideous is the understatement of the year. LOL Anemic would be accurate as well.
  18. The NBA is exactly where I got this idea from. They always phony injuries to the point that they might as well just expand the rosters and get rid of the IL. I wish the MLP Player's Union was as weak as the NBA's. The MLBPA is way too strong and causes too many problems.
  19. I mean he could "find it" sometime, but right now he just looks like he doesn't have a clue. He is all over the place and looks like he doesn't know where the ball is going. It's bad when only 3 walks in 4.1 innings is considered improvement. Unfortunately, it came while allowing 8 hits.
  20. I don't think the players union would allow that. It happens in the Minors, but I don't think it is realistic in this scenario. The Sox just need to send JP down and gamble that he will clear waivers. If he doesn't, it would not be the end of the world.
  21. I wouldn't worry about Corwin right now. He is going backwards and I am not sure he is going to right the ship. If he does he has a chance, but at this point, I'd be surprised to see Corwin in a Sox uniform period.

    WHIP

Funny, i never liked his curve. I thought it rolled too much and didn't have enough bite. Granted, I haven't seen him pitch much since 2000, so things could be different. His best asset is that he throws strikes and pitches aggressively.

    WHIP

LDF, basically WHIP is an indicator of how many base runners a pitcher allows. If he pitches out of a lot of jams and doesn't give up runs, then a lower ERA is possible. If a greater percentage of his runners score, then his ERA could be higher with the WHIP still low. I like WHIP as an indicator, but as Chisoxfn mentioned the sample size is small this early in the season. Over the long run, the number of runners a pitcher allows should be a fair indicator of his success. I also look at BB/IP and BB/K ratios. None of these independently, including ERA and opponents average, will tell you everything you need to know. But when you look at all of them, you should see some of them tell you the same things, and when they jive, it gives you a good indication of a pitcher's success, aside from the obvious Wins.
  24. I'm sure he'll pitch again in the next 3 or 4 days, so I will watch the gun again. Last time I was standing behind Corwin who was charting pitches in the stands and I could see the radar gun on every pitch.
  25. LDF, I just saw him briefly in one appearance. Unfortunately I was not in position to get a real good look. Hopefully I can catch him in the next 4 days. I know Backman is high on him and doesn't expect him to be in Birmingham long. He has a funky windup, kind of like Nomo, but not exactly the same. Throws very hard. I'll get good readings this week if possible. Sorry for slacking up to this point.
