right or wrong, would a "down with Bush" sign be removed? I think it would. I could be wrong. But leaders of all nations should be treated equally in this international baseball tournament.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Exactly, your last point is something I brought up the other day too. The Sox lost to every team they played at least once, with the exception of the Astros, and they're the World Champions. You've got to put the WBC into perspective of how baseball works. I just can't get excited about that. I'll continue watching the real March Madness in basketball and White Sox ST games. well s***. You don't see me in the NCAA forum bashing college basketball. Because in my opinion, I think it's watered down. All the good talent is in the pros. I say that because I grew up loving ncaa basketball (the greats usually leaving after their junior year) You younger guys did not get to see what I seen. So your not used to the level of quality I grew up watching. I don't see the point of all you WBC nay sayers continue to bash it. I get it. You guys don't like it. Don't watch. Leave myslelf, and the other soxtalkers alone about it though. Some of us actually like it. Another point, if you are going to tell me that players can not take their game to a higher level just because it's march, than your highly mistaken. Just because Jim Thome and Paul Konerko are not putting on a clinic right now, does not mean they can't turn it on when ever they want. They pretty much will if it were must win games. At least that's what I have seen from Freddy Garcia, Esteban Loiaza, David Ortiz and Adrian Beltre.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) The WBC is definitely a joke. I just don't get how you can take it seriously. In the PHT forum, a lot of people are in the camp that it's just ST, and the players are just getting their work in, etc. You can't just turn around and expect that much more from anyone in this fake tournament. It's their ST too. That's why this thing is never going to work. MLB's season is too long (not that I'm complaining) for this to ever work. I will repectfully disagree with you. I love watching everyone play for their country. The players who are going didn't drop out for a reason. The truly want to play in the tournament. This tournament has been way better than I expected. I suggest you give it a shot. There is nothing like watching a team face elimination and put it all on the line to win. As into it as these other countries are into it, it is hard not to get into it too. You are going to tell me it is spring training for the dominicans? Hardly, they are smacking every ball they see. What about cuba? If these guys lose they go back home making 20 bucks a month. If they win it increases their chances to escape. It was great watchin mexico facing elimination and killing canada. Would they have taken it to another level if it were a spring training game? I don't think so. If you refuse to keep an open mind about the wbc and are too stubborn to give it a chance, then I feel sorry for you as a baseball fan. It's your loss. Just don't bring your negativity to this forum and ruin it for the fans that do love the tournament. To me, this is what baseball is all about.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) That would require Jim Thome to die. or just break down like older players do

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) You need a tie-breaker, sure, but this one just reeks of cheapness, IMO. I haven't got a counter proposal to it. I'm sure, now that that's said, that there must be one, I just haven't come across it. All I'm saying is that it seems like Canada is getting the Shaft unfairly, and that these rules seem a bit archaeic to me. Makes me almost want to hope that South Africa beats us tomorrow. I don't know. I have a hard time feeling sorry for canada. They knew coming in not to give up 9 runs and lose. They knew it was basically a must win. Because A) The US created a cusion when they pitched a shutout the first game and B ) Canada only beat the US by 2 when it was all said and done.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) That sort of talk has been picking up of late. It seems it bothers me now more than ever. You should lose that sig. Rob's a Fraud. He was in the booth with Hawk and DJ today and didn't know who Tony Phillips was. I thought he was a sox fan. He was 21 when Tony Phillips had nearly 600 Ab's for us in 1997.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Yes. If we win tomorrow, we're in. Which is absolute bulls***, and it's a ridiculous way to deal with it, I think. If I were a Canadian tomorrow when Roger Clemens knocks South Africa to hell, I'd be furious at the Tournament's ridiculous rules. I don't think it's ridiculous in my opinion. They Beat us. We Beat mexico. Mexico owned them. You need some sort of tie breaker.
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) In this situation, yes. In the case of a 3-way tie, earned runs allowed against the other teams involved in the tie is the tie-breaker. Mexico would advance with 3 earned runs, and so would the US at 8. Canada would be eliminated because they allowed 15 runs to Mexico and the US. I can't belive a game like this won't be telivised (for me anyways) until 2 am. I dont know what the hell espn deportes is. I don't get that.
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) The runs allowed against South Africa don't matter. They only count the earned runs against the other teams involved in the tie. so, it's just a win and your in type of deal?
-
Canada W VS South Africa 11-8 W VS USA 8-6 L VS Mexico 1-9 Total Earned Runs = 23 Mexico L Vs USA 2-0 W VS South Africa 10-4 W VS Canada 9-1 Total Earned Runs = 5 USA W Vs Mexico 2-0 L VS Canada 6-8 South Africa ? So, mexico is in. The US needs to beat South Africa By allowing 14 runs or less and they are in. Canada will most likely get eliminated as cheat stated

I guess he's not playing.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Also, can we please just have multiple WBC threads. Seems stupid to just have one. I know, I dont understand why we can just have one. Seems silly. The Diamond club is really slow, at least the wbc adds some spice to the forum. I dont mind if they archive the game threads after the games are a few hours over.

Per espn Should be ready to play friday. vlad, pujols.tejada, ortiz is a lineup that might be the best middle of the order ever assembled (aside from the all star game)
-
so u guys are not doing this?
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) I would just love either a sig or a wall of the WBC, preferably of the US team. Any player would be fine too. It dowsn't have to be anything great. A quickie will do just fine since I can't rep it for long.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) That does not make it ok to throw the stupidest pass of the entire game. ^^^

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Ben Gordon is a mother f***ing idiot Bulls fans definately have a bitter/sweet relationship with that guy.
