QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) I think the leadoff position is going to be filled by the CF position, and let's hope it's not Taveras. It wont be.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) I just watched the replay online from last night but they don't have the teaser for next week. What did the show in the preview? Anything good? My f***ing Tivo cut it off. There is no way Arthur is dead.

ESPN's "the SEC is better than the NFL" leg got kicked out this season so now they are on the "Tebow wasnt the best player on the field, but should win the Heisman because of his leadership" bandwagon. Someone has to tell all the other players that outperformed Tebow that they have zero leadership. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Well the Reds adding $3M in payroll with the Ramon Hernandez deal can't help the odds of a Dye for Bailey swap. I think that deal is dead, and has been. How much payroll have we dropped so far? We could realistically add less than 20 million to our payroll as it stands right now and have a better team than we had last year. And thats with adding ONE arm and ONE bat.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) Oh please no I just threw up a little in my mouth. And as the price of Free Agents fall, Kenny should be licking his chops.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) His arm isn't the problem, it's plenty strong. Whether he has the range and footwork to stick at short is the question. Right, and there havent been all that many scouts that say he cant stay at SS. His arm is plenty strong for 3B.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Hey Rock, I know you can't name names, but what about position wise...infield/outfield/pitching, etc? I dont have that specific of info. Nor would I ask for it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I think the Sox have a couple preliminary guys in Vegas. I think Hahn might be doing that right now. I read where KW gave his "guys" strategies for their discussions. I think Hahn wants to be a GM someday. Just negotiating contracts isn't going to get him a job. I'm sure he's been involved in trade discussions before. Just reporting what I heard.

QUOTE (TheBlackSox8 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Seems they tried to hard and failed...but thats my opinion. I loved season 1, and two was decent. Three bored me after about 5 episodes....way too many characters as well. Should have never started with saving the world, you can't get more important than that....and it gets old if every season is that storyline. Well, technically, saving the world once set off many other things. When you change the future, new things happen in response. And they are killing off alot of the characters.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Doesn't Hahn do the majority of negotiations? So wouldn't he be the one talking with the agents for the most part regarding FA's? Or at least that was always my understanding based upon things I've been told. When it comes down to the contracts, yes. But KW still does much of the planning and initial discovery.
-
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Well that is a good sign. I hope one of them is Furcal's. I cant get specifics for obvious reasons, but I specifically heard that the "trade rumors" dont have alot of legs unless a deal was discussed in about 2 min.
-
I hear that Kenny hasnt even been discussing trades with other GM's and has spent most of his time on the phone with a small number of agents for FA's.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) If the Cubs sign Rich Aurilia, will that get the front page on the Tribune today over Blago's arrest? No, because there will be a huge picture of ugly Jim Hendry with the headline "Hendry ALMOST pulls the string on a Peavy trade, will think more tomorrow"

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) DukeNukeEm's post on another board: Im wondering how a bill like that even makes it to the governors desk? Does the mob just fax new legislation straight to Blago's office? No checks and balances. No voters. Nobody cares. But I care, and please support me for my election as Alderman. -

Holy f*** the new Kaner/Toews commercial is hilarious. -
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) would you do dye for sonnanstine? I wouldnt, no. And I dont think KW would either. He has had several NL teams with good farm systems show interest, if they dont push the trade talks then KW will start the season with Dye in RF.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Different eras. When Santo was done playing, I believe he was second all time in homers by a thirdbaseman. I could be wrong but I think I read that. I don't think being despised by opponents should hurt your chances to get in. The last 3 elections he's been 8,5, and 9 votes short. He's going to get in. Its just a matter of time. And he did it with Diabetes, dont worry, he'll tell you a few times just so you remember.

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Don't know if this was posted but this is from Stark: Linky Tampa has been discussed in the Dye sweepstakes. Tampa has zero interest in bringing back Young from multiple sources.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Jesus Christ... f*** you, Jake Peavy. I hope you lose your arm somewhere up Eddie Vedder's overrated ass. And... If they're going to eat that much of his contract, and then take back an arb-eligible player probably making just as much, how is that trimming salary? All the other GM's are playing this game on Level: Difficult, meanwhile Jim Hendry is the retard in the propellered hat working on Easy Mode with a list of cheat codes in front of him. That Peavy report is 100 percent false. Cubs fans trying to make waves.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) My mom works for DHS/ORS and she said that everyone in her office is positively giddy. Apparently they are considering ordering a cake. Springfield may get a holiday off today for this news. They all HATE his guts. -

What a great Cubs fan. I can improve the park that my "favorite" team plays in, but not until you fire or suspend some of your editorial writers. What a f***in moron. -
QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Cowley is on the Score. Despite what he wrote this morning, it doesn't sound like Dye will get moved unless he gets a better offer than Bailey. Anything we've heard about Jenks is likely not true. There's no interest in moving him. Doesn't look like an FA's will be signed, even if Dye is traded. Cowley is further away from actual fact regarding trades/signings and dealing with KW than some of the people on this board. Take what he says with a grain of salt. And why would the Phils and the O's want to help the Cubs pull off one of the bigger pitching rip offs in recent memory? Pie will be non-tendered before the regular season, why trade for him? Why would the Phils want to make the Cubs stronger? The deal makes no sense especially since the O's didnt know about the "framework". I think its the media pushing the deal once again.
