  1. Ah it wouldn't be a thread without dick bringing up konerko again. And everyone, Thome and Konerko will not platoon at dh, thome hits righties and lefties better than paul. We all know Griffey isn't going to play everyday cf, so something else is going to happen. I'd look for kw to possibly flip jr to someone like the mets or az for pen help.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) Or they're just waiting for Konerko to accept his NTC. We can pray. Doubt it. All sources have said some insignificant minor leaguers to the Reds so far, which is what we can hope for. Even Reds fans dont see much value in Junior. If you can think of a playoff team that needs a LH hitting corner OF'er then maybe there is someone else involved.
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) Just seems too fast and loose with players. Never have liked him. So basically no reason....
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) The difference between .230 and .245 is a few singles. Hardly noticeable over the course of 4 months. Griffey should be a LH bench player anyway with the Sox if he actually is staying here. He is basically a replacement for Wise's bat, and a backup corner OF'er/DH
  5. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) Well, if all it takes to secure a spot on the roster and the love of the fans is to tell some jokes, play with blowup dolls, and be really sorry for not hitting - then dang, I could do that, and cheap!!! I will even take my own train up there to sign! SFF If you did that while being an affordable young talented player who is entering his prime, then yes, you could.
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) I always assume he'll do something stupid, but that's just me. Yes it is just you. He's a top tier GM in this league and is widely regarded as such.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:16 AM) Why is everyone in love with Swisher? He has been awful. If anything OC has been playing much better than Swish this season. under team control, young, good presence, entering his prime. Lots of reasons, and KW knows Swish isnt going anywhere for those reasons. And I dont like De Luca knows s*** about what hes talking about. We wont see Griffey suit up in CF for the White Sox.
  8. s***, I cant find my Griffeytalk.com banner
  9. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) A guy at work just said he heard on XM that its done. Griffey waived his NTC. I didnt hear it personally so take it with a grain of salt Well we just replaced Dewaye Wise with Junior Griffey.
  10. QUOTE (JenksForPrez45 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Heard on the Score its Griffey and some guy named Ben Weathers (sp?) coming to the sox for nothing significant David?
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:53 AM) OK. DaVanon is a 35 year old journeyman outfielder, so he has no trade value. Lucy's knee is wrecked and he's a catcher whose main value is in his defense, so, nothing there either. Jose Martinez may have some value as a low level prospect, though. Its also a scenario where they could be making Cincy choose from a pool of lower level guys, and they are so low level that Cincy hasnt really scouted them yet.
  12. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) I'll f***ing lose it if Fields leaves. I'd just have to assume they're hearing what they want to hear because with Crede unavailable and Uribe the only person available for 3B we wouldn't risk it. And yeah, what's the damn holdup on information coming out? I hate waiting for everything. Fields isnt going anywhere for Griffey, he is worth 4 KGJr's at this point.
  13. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) FIXED Its the same if we saw Konerko traded, and all of a sudden we start naming off top prospects that we think we got because we value Kong so highly, and then we see its Corey Patterson.
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:45 AM) Trade 5 for 1, then 1 for 2. Could have gotten more. I would have asked for two more pitchers at least. But, will Kotchman develop the kind of power that Konerko's had? Its not a numbers game. Tex dropped alot of value when he became a rental player. And Kotch's defense is superior and his OBP will be better hence the similar OPS
  15. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:42 AM) Reds fans hearing FIELDS for Griffey i hope this is just a bad f***ing dream if true Where did you see that? Im only seeing them hoping for someone as good as Broadway.
  16. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) if they were in contention they might be singing a different tune Maybe, but Griff is a loafing slugger who has lost his place in Cincy. He is overpaid, injury prone, and is doing his last victory lap in the league. They just want to rid themselves of that contract.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) The Jurrjens/Renteria trade was brilliant for Frank Wren, so I hope that is the case with this one. I just think the Braves could have gotten more for him, they did trade 5 guys to get him in the first place. Kotchman isn't nothing, he just seems like an Overbay/Grace type more than a Konerko type to me. You said they gave up practically nothing. If the Sox gave up Mark Grace for a Boras rental player you would be up in arms. Kotchman is a serious 1B, who should put up similar OPS to Konerko throughout his career.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:36 AM) I heard that BA heads to CIN. Where did you hear that?
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:25 AM) You're right about Minnesota. But, I'd just rather see a balanced approach. Look at the Angels, they gave up practically nothing to get Teixiera. Even if he is a rental, that doesn't hurt at all. The Braves could have gotten more for him. Schuerholtz would have. Practically nothing? I wouldnt call Kotchman nothing. Would a young Konerko moving into his prime be considered nothing to you?
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:30 AM) Griffey will play in CF, Swisher at 1B, and Thome DHing. . Griffey doesnt play CF anymore, and hasnt for a few years. He is a corner OF'er/DH.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) I agree with Stoney. If Griffey comes here, I think Dirty Thirty is gone, and since Beane loves him, maybe back to Oakland. So you are saying a young player locked up for the next several years has lost his place on a team because we got an overpaid, over the hill corner OH/DH for a few months? Wow, I guess you really do think KW is retarded.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) The locker room got better. here is a scenario that no one has mentioned, Cincy moved him to a contender to give him a chance at a WS ring. They took almost nothing, perhaps just enough so he doesn't look like a charity case. A possible DH or bat off the bench. Perhaps Konerko is getting shut down for the season. Griff just had a run in with the coaching staff and the radio guys, maybe its a box of balls to Cincy and we pay the salary. He would basically replace D Wise on the bench.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 06:51 AM) I might take Volquez for Floyd and Fields...but he's very unproven, certainly in a pennant race. It's one thing to produce in Cincy (see Kip Wells first two seasons in PITT)...but will he wilt in August and September (see Loiaza 2003)? I don't like dealing Floyd unless it's for someone even better than Contreras or Garcia (at the time of his acquisition). He and Danks give us a lot of payroll flexibility down the road. We can't have a $50 million plus starting rotation...that was the reason we ditched Garland and Garcia in the first place, I thought. Might? Volquez is one of the best young pitchers in the league, you would have to convince them to MAYBE think about our offer.
