  1. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) That's the only one we know about, unless you have some news. We can't even say he's "the main one". Well, PTBL usually arent show stoppers.
  2. QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) I agree about moving A.J. out of the 2-hole. It was a good idea earlier on in the season when there were no other options, but at this point, I'd rather have Swisher up there for his OBP or Alexei for his general speedsmanship. Stick A.J. at 6 or 7. I prefer Swish up there so he can see fastballs and get on base, but ANYONE should be better getting on base than AJ
  3. When reading the debate about who deserves to be AL MVP, I was surprised to see that many people favored Josh Hamilton because of his RBI total. Carlos is beating him in basically every category but RBI's which probably has more to do with our terrible OBP by the top of the order. For comparison's sake their numbers in their slots in the order: Cabrera .286 .337 .715 Pierzynski: .281 .306 .705 Is there any contending team that is worse at getting on base and setting the table?
  4. Move AJ out of the f***ing 2 hole for christ sakes, and you wonder why Quentin doesnt have the RBI's Hamilton has. AJ as a #2 hitter: .281 .306 .399 .705
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) My wife (All-American in High School, swam competitively at Rice U.) was screaming (quietly, had a sleeping baby), up on her feet and couldn't believe Lezek was 3/4 of a body length behind with 50m to go and caught up...Bernard tanked that last 50 and swimming a 46 flat 100 by Lezek, is absolutely ridiculous. I went nuts, his swim was one in a million. Unbelieveable.
  6. I equate what they gave up for Dunn about what we gave up for Griffey IMO. Borderline guys, the main one being a TJ surgery guy.
  7. Prospects that are liked: Minor league stats dont matter Prospects that arent: Hard hat day at the Cell
  8. Many good pitchers made the jump from AA to the majors. Poreda might be that kind of guy. He could be a nice pen arm in the stretch here.
  9. On the positive side, I think Konerko and Swish are about to get hot. I'd like to see Swish hit 2nd for a little with AJ moving down.
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Well if he only gives up two runs, I'll be happy. He needs to stop dicking around and just climb the f***ing ladder with his pitches. He needs to take about 2-3 pitches out of his quiver and focus on 3 or 4 good ones. 4-seamer, 2-seamer, change and sometimes a curve, thats it.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) nicely done javi will now go into a panic attack Yeah right, he put a nice pitch on fat-cab and he closed his eyes and hit it out. 99 times out of 100 he hits that foul or at the 3B.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) As of today, the Tigers would have to go 35-14 in their remaining games just to reach 90 wins. A 71.4% winning percentage from now to the end of the season. Yeah, they still have a chance, but they are rapidly reaching the point of no return. With their pitching and pen, they simply cannot do it.
  13. Both Beckham and Danks will sign, they are two very high priorities for this org. They are waiting until a week or so. Dont fret.
  14. QUOTE (easyw @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) Last year was about the craziest college football season ever. If I could go out on a limb and pick one upset I'm taking Ohio University over OSU in Columbus on Sept 6th. The Buckeyes will be looking past the Bobcats towards USC the next week. Hey - there is no glory in picking the favorite... in this case, the OVERWHLEMING favorite... OU is awful, you have to pick a better upset than that. Ill pick Northwestern in Evanston just like several years ago, plus I'll be there which is usually good for OSU, but im due for a loss.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) It feels so good to not have to see him anymore. No kidding. Our lineup whiffing all night always had residual effects for a few games, the same with Fatbathia (who I hope we break the bank for in the offseason). Its amazing Danks dominated an offense like Detroit without throwing one f***ing curveball. That cutter is the equalizer. If Danks can learn 1-2 more pitches in the next few seasons he will be ridiculous. What if he learned a splitty all of a sudden.
  16. QUOTE (Steff @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Take it to HR. Seriously. There was a group like this at the job I left before I had Bri and no one formally complained. At one point one of the gang members heard people talking about them in the lunch room and she filed a complaint, hired a lawyer and got a payday for having to work in a "hostile work environment". The rest followed suit but I left before it was resolved - and I would bet high it was one of the reasons 80+ people were laid off shortly after. These days it takes a paper trail a mile long to get some companies to take action. Holy s***, who the hell are you!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Greyhound scrapping its new ad campaign... LINK post 43.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Freddy Sanchez has a lower on base percentage than Juan Uribe. They're both f***ing terrible offensively, but if you are so bad that you are getting on base less than Juan Uribe, you are really bad. Let's hope this is the last time Sanchez's name is brought up. well you are just looking at this year, which is a down year for him. He has a career .334 OBP which is light years ahead of Uribe with a career .740 OPS. His last three seasons which are when he began playing full time he posted OPS of .736 .851 and .784 which is pretty good for a lead off hitter. In his career batting 1st he has a line of .310 .348 .428 .776 which is better than we have now.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Reggie Jackson is the exception here though, because everytime he swung the bat, he wanted to hit the ball a mile. Dick Allen is a pretty good example of guys who swung as hard as they could every at bat.
  20. Not a great start for my fantasy team, but for a first time out, you have to be happy with that.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) I still can't believe the A's couldn't get a better package than what they got from the Cubs. Hendry hosed them. They now have zero of those players contributing for the big league team. We could have given them Josh Fields and it would give the A's more value.
  22. I like how everyone's plan of getting rid of aging players is to "trade them for prospects" like its a magic box you put them in and good young players pop out in return. Would anyone here trade OUR prospects for one of those guys.
  23. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) I gotcha btw.. I hope my comments didnt come off as bitter or anything. I dont want to start something. I respect your team...its just that...oooh first place tasted nice and Nick Swisher hits a HR when you really needed one. It just seems to happens a lot Come on Jim, you have to know that the Dome, its surface, its awful background, and the mysterious amplification of crowd noise and air conditioning give the Twins one of the best home field advantages in baseball. There arent many parks where bleeders sneak through on hard carpet, balls bounce over 3B head like clockwork, and you can lose a ball so easily in the ceiling. The Twins are going to have a hard time gaining that advantage with an outdoor grass park.
