QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Where do you think the cubs would be if they played in the AL? About 16-22 games over .500 depending on which division. If we played against some of the crap pitchers they face 3-4 times a week, we would be about where they are. s***, if we played the Pirates 6 more times we would almost be there.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 11:19 PM) I think a collapse from Floyd/Danks is inevitable as they will likely tire (maybe not a collapse, but some sort of hiccup). However, its hard not to say that Danks hasn't still battled and done a solid job (sans tonight). That said I've wanted to see the Sox be able to get both Danks/Floyd extra days of rest down the stretch because if they push these guys too hard there is a lot of statistical evidence which would indicate we'll see each of these regress (or get hurt) in the next year. If thats the case, then we should expect most of the Twins rotation to collapse as well, oh and the Rays too.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) Well, I know I'm not the only one who believes in this. Quality posters on this site have made mention of his high inning totals (compared to last year), as well as his inability to keep the ball down in his past few games. He was off tonight, but has been very good lately.

QUOTE (SoCalSouthSider59 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) Wow, we're gettin' hammered by a suck ass team............. Their a good offensive team, we couldnt pitch or hit today. And the ump seemed to take it easy on their guys, gave them a generous strike zone like he felt sorry for them.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) No, I'm not saying the Bobby Jenks now is the same one as with the Angels...but I am saying that Bobby's history was that he was not in good form to be a starter. And secondly...the answer is "It depends on the pitcher". John Smoltz for example always had doctors suggesting he flip back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen because of how the recovery from his surgery was going. IMO most of his failure was his ability to be a pitcher instead of a thrower. He had zero command of any pitch, couldnt induce contact for grounders, and really didnt know what to throw in situations other than try and blow a fastball by a hitter. This Jenks has 4 different fastballs and moves them all over the plate. He has a splitter, a slider, a change and a hammer. He has the ability to induce contact for grounders and also strike people out. IM not saying this is something we SHOULD do, but its not totally out of the question. Jenks could be a #1 starter for this team, he has that ability.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) What do you think the Sox should do with him the rest of the way? He seems to have hit a wall basically since the 7th inning of that great Red Sox start, and his stuff has been mediocre since then. I haven't looked at the schedule in terms of days off, etc., but I really don't want to "rest" him while we let Broadway pitch in crucial games. In his last 4 starts he has a 2.42 ERA. What wall are you speaking of?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) Bobby as a starter was a bad idea when the Angels did it and they'd have to be idiots not to have realized it. The moment he came up everyone who watched the games could see it...he loses about 4-5 mph off his fastball after an inning or two. His arm isn't built to do long duration, it's holding up well in short bursts, and with him already having a screw in his arm there's no way anyone should ever, ever think of moving him to starting. 2 questions for you 1. Are you saying the 2008 Bobby Jenks is the same as the Jenks with the Angels? Because they are two very different players. This Bobby is a pitcher who already has TAKEN 4-5 mph of his fastball, and has added 3 others to his arsenal. 2. True or False: Pitching on regular rest in the rotation is better for the arm than pitching out of the pen irregularly.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Baseball logic also tells you that teams with middle or lower-tier payrolls in small markets shouldn't win 5 of 7 division championships against big-market teams like Chicago and Detroit. Heck, CLE was a "big market" team in the way they operated until Dolan took over. What does that have to do with the law of averages? Its pure statistical fact that the twins are above the mean with RISP.

QUOTE (NYSox35 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) Can't see that making sense w/ Jenks personally. Why mess w/ his great run as closer? Because SP's are more valuable than closers. Bobby was a starter his whole career until he came here, he could move back to that role, especially now that his command has improved and he's become a pitcher instead of a thrower.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) marqueis gray is not a gopher Whoa, thats a HUGE blow to Minny. There were rumblings of some academic issues for several players on this years team. In other news, it wont take long for CFB fans to see top freshman Terrell Pryor as he is slated to get action in the first half Saturday. -

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Obama lost the guy's vote? That tells you wind kind of a deep political mind was posting that. His vote for president is solely based on the fact that Obama really doesn't like the Cubs. Way to take a stand for the issues. What would you expect from a cubs fan? Most of their allegiance to their team is due to the proximity of bars to their stadium. -
Also, 5th starter for next year should be a question mark as well. My Vote: Bobby Jenks returns to his roots as a starter.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) I had the weight gain to. About 10 pounds or so. Ya, I'd say thats about what I had. Those were some of the hardest lbs to lose too.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I think Alexei may become a better defender, and it is difficult to compare 3rd basemen to 2nd basemen. Longoria as a rookie is already an elite defensive 3B. It would take alot of Alexei to be at that level.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) So I am booking my ticket to Vegas sometime this week but I had a couple quick questions for anyone who's been there and/or out west. My return flight has to go through either Denver, LAX or San Francisco. Is there one you guys would recommend over the others in terms of least likely to get delayed and whatnot? Also, we are going to try to stay on the strip or just off of it. We'd like to be near some nice clubs. Any advice on where to stay? There's 4 of us and we'll only be there for 3 nights before going to Lake Havasu City so anywhere around 100-120 a night for the room is the range we're looking at. Finally, what are the best places to gamble with small mins (ie 5 or 10 dollars for blackjack) and what are some of the better bars/ngith clubs? Thanks for the help. LAX gets delayed a ton. Denver and SF are ok, but SF really isnt on your way, and either is LAX.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Alexei has played better defense and has done several web gems. He has played 4 positions and has batted lower in the order. I do not have the numbers with runners in scoring position for Longoria, but he has only a few RBI more than Alexei batting in the middle of the order. Therefore, Alexei should have a better BA with RISP than Longoria by far. Longoria is a much better defensive player than Alexei dude.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) Technically speaking, Carlos Quentin didn't make the pitching staff throw the way they did or Alexei emerge, etc etc. However, I do believe the MVP is more than best offensive player. I think it goes to the guy that did the very most for there team and wins should be one of the factors. But Carlos did carry this team through its offensive woes in April and May.

I smoked from about 15 till 22, and then quit when I graduated college. I quit by switching to "dip" instead of smoking, which helped me gradually get myself off tobacco. I did experience a weight gain however.

OMG you didnt get a good response from Ozzie when you suggested he fire one of his coaches???? I cant even BELIEVE that!!!!!! I mean, it was just a brilliant suggestion, I expected him to thank you.
