  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) LOL. NOT even close. Seriously, if you want to state such strong opinions as facts, do yourself (and us) a favor and do your homework first. Facts have no place in this thread!!
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Which is 100% why Billy Beane traded him for the package he got him for...for everyone who bashed that package. He got a couple months out of Harden and moved him immediately. I'll still bash that package. They basically got zero impact players for one of the better starters in the league. Most likely none will play in the majors for the A's.
  3. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Basically, Cabrera has disappointed people, and sucks. Swisher has disappointed people, and sucks, and we gave up way too much to get him. That pretty much sums it up, and there's really no arguing with that, if you've watched the majority of the games this year. Neither are a big improvement over what we had at those positions last year... If you think they are, you're fooling yourself. No arguing with it huh? Wow, you must think alot of your opinion without actually citing reality. OC was an upgrade offensively and defensively at SS. Swish having a down year was an upgrade in CF and is under control for several seasons. I not only think they were upgrades, but the stats tell the truth as well. Sorry your first thread had to be such a downer for your "opinion" , but facts are facts. And no offense, but you arent the only one who watches games here, in fact, Ive probably watched more in person than you as well.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) I agree that Crede has more range to his sides than Uribe, but Crede has been absolutely terrible on tough in-between hops this season. He has no confidence on those plays. Uribe is fantastic on plays like that. We are royally f***ed at 3B after this season. Uribe shouldnt be a starter and Josh Fields looks like the next coming of Joe Borchard at this point.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) So Zambrano missed his MRI today? Also, sounds like Harden is injured more than they've said. Something is f***ed up over there. Why did he miss his MRI? Didnt he think that may be a bit important? Saw that cubs fans are now saying they believe in the curse because Harden's shoulder is hurt. Ummm, the guy is always hurt folks
  6. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) Why do people automatically assume those that oppose the Cabrera trade still want Garland here? I've said many times I want Garland traded for a package of younger players. Perhaps we could've gotten something worth a damn at the deadline with those players. Cabrera's defense hasn't been as good as advertised and is around Uribe's defensive season in 2007 (which was probably his worse) and the fact is his OPS is only 10 points higher than Uribe's last year. His OBP was a crappy .326 coming into today's game. That's Jerry Owens last year. In 2006 we railed all over an injured Scott Podsednik for putting up a .330 OBP. At this time in 2007 that POS, mistake from the signing, Darin Erstad had a line of .266/.324/.354/.678. That's unacceptable, and all those guys combined made less money than Cabrera and they kept their mouths shut. Ah yes, the ol phantom deal that could have happened. OC has only been a lead off hitter because he was forced into the role. Of course as a #1 hitter he hasnt been great, but has a line of .288 .335 .720
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) You are talking about seasons past. At no point in this season has Joe Crede's defense at 3B been better than Juan Uribe's defense at 3B. No, I still think Joe has made plays Juan cant this season. He's had some uncharacteristic errors, but I still think his defense has been good. He excels at stopping plays at the right time, doubles down the line, shots in the hole, tough in between hops. Its just something he always does IMO.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) Vazquez pitched very well today, although I did not get to see the game. It's like I said, I really shouldn't watch games that he starts, ha. I've sat him on the bench for my fantasy team, and he's gone on a pretty nice stretch here.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) I agree it's wrong, but I'm not going to go to the complete B.S. level...give you one major issue with Cabrera that backs his point up...in 2007, Juan Uribe had an OPS of .678. Cabrera is at .687 this year. Cabrera in terms of run production hasn't been dramatically far ahead of where Uribe was last year although he fits better in our order. So his defense ought to be better than what Uribe has put up. Most of the OPS for Juan was him hitting 20hr. More than twice Orlando will end up with. OC's OPS is almost entirely based on his OBP, which is more valuable for this already all or nothing team. His BA and OBP are a major improvement and his defense has been as good if not better than Juan's was last year. Juan was a giant hole that was filled pretty well by KW. There were probably better options out there somewhere, but the combination of OC+Danks >>>>>>Uribe at SS with Garland in the rotation.
  10. It sucks when your first real thread on the board basically highlights your ignorance on the topic.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) That is complete BS. I just dont understand if his play was so s***ty, what does that make Uribe's last season?
  12. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) How many games has OC won for us with his "added offense" over Uribe? Now how many games has he cost us with his lackluster effort at SS? Having watched almost every game this year, I can tell you with almost 100% certainty, that he has cost us more games with his s***ty play on defense, than he has won for us with his bat. He is on pace to have less errors than Uribe did last year. I had to edit this post, realizing that nothing much is going to change your horrific opinion.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) haha, this is true. also, OC .327 OBP and .274 avg, half the K's, more BB. 2007 SS .234 .284 17 2B 1sb 17 errors in 150 games .976 FPCT 2008 SS .273 .326 26 2B 18sb 12 errors in 136 games .980 FPCT I'd say kenny did a pretty damn good job at improving that position.
  14. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Um, Juan Uribe? Or are you talking into the future? I dont think Juan has the range that Joe Crede does. Joe makes stops that Juan simply cannot make. Juan is a very good defensive 3B, but Crede seemed to come up with that diving stop, or short hopper exactly when it was needed. Outside of that, he didnt bring much to the plate this year though. 3B is an obvious hole on this team.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) You also realize that, with Garland, there is no Floyd right? Floyd has been the best big-game pitcher and a close 2nd to best overall on this staff. We also have Uribe at SS and when Crede goes down.....Pablo? Now I hate OC as a person as much as anyone, but after his slow start he's been decent enough. As for the Swisher deal, i love it and him. We gave up ehh in prospects, and got a young and inexpensive guy who brings some sorely needed energy to the team and can play multiple positions. I thank god everyday we didn't end up overpaying out the ass for f***indome and am confident Swisher will be a 30+ hr and .350+ OBP guy in the future. Actually Floyd had zero options, which means it meant no Danks. Which means the Ace of our staff would have been in AAA. Plus his post doesnt make much sense past that either. He claimed 30 points in batting avg "isnt much"
  16. Ah yes. Instead of Inexplicable Infallible, I need my tag to read: Watchtower41's b**** Better than giving up my bobblehead f*** yourself griffey
  17. QUOTE (sox1844 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) I also don't get why people think that Swisher's "amazing" personality is going to change the fact that he's a career .250 hitter. I bet his clown attitude is more annoying in the clubhouse than it is motivating. Thats a pretty terrible thing to bet on.
  18. His defense will sorely be missed. He made outstanding plays at the right time, but his bat seriously sucks when he's hurt. I'd like to sign him back to an injury incentive deal since we have zero other options at 3B. (yes that includes you Josh Fields)
  19. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Thread = Fail! +1
  20. If Z is really hurt, and Harden gets his monthly DL trip, the cubs playoff rotation all of a sudden becomes terrible. 1. Dempster 2. Lilly 3. Marquis 4. Marshall
  21. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I hate this logic. If the Sox released Buehrle or traded Garland + all of his salary to another team would it be worth it just because Floyd got a chance to go in the rotation? Cabrera is so overrated. He's a dickhead and has had defensive miscues that have led to huge innings for the opposition (some were called errors and others were mysteriously hits. I guess the box didn't want to deal with him over the phone.) His OBP isn't very good and his double totals are down. Despite the .270ish average, he currently leads the AL in total outs. Cabrera has been a flop. If Garland is in the rotation, Danks is in the minors. Thats just the truth. And OC's production is an improvement of our SS production the last few years offensively. I wouldnt say thats a flop at all, especially when he brings us draft picks in the offseason.
  22. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) Swisher and OC have been total disappointments this year. I can't stand either of them. I certainly hope Kenny has some better moves this upcoming offseason, or you can forget about playoffs next year. Right now, we're really lucky that Detroit and Cleveland have had terrible seasons. They are both improvements over the production of CF and SS the last few years. Kenny probably had the best offseason of any general manager in baseball.
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) I am just thinking out loud, but am I being captain obvious by saying that there is NO WAY that the White Sox go into 2009 so heavily tilted toward the all or none HR style that gets extinguished against the Dice-K's and Cliff Lee's of MLB? So you want a lineup that doesnt occasionally get shut down by the best pitchers in the league? Hmmm, how can we build a team that goes against the very statistics that make baseball go?
