  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) It's not even close. The Cubs and Sox are in different leagues and are only tied by geographical means and it's only a big deal because fans make it out to be due to bragging rights. The Bears and the Packers, on the other hand, are a bitter rivalry, one of the oldest and most intense in all of sports, and they are in the same league and division. Their wins and losses directly effect each other. The Cubs/Sox wins and losses only effect each other in inter league play. I have the exact opposite opinion as it really doesnt matter that they arent in the same division, Cubs and Sox fans have an extremely heated rivalry because we share a city. Losing to the Packers doesnt have nearly the effect on me as losing to the cubs. I couldnt hate the Pack as much as I hate the cubs, not even close. IM pretty sure I hate the Lions more than I hate the Pack. Mine in no particular order: Sox Bears Bulls Hawks Ohio State Miami U-especially hockey Bayern Munich
  2. Sox/Cubs by a landslide IMO. The Bears/Packers Rivalry isnt quite as tense as a fan base beating each other up in the same city.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 03:49 AM) Correct, because Chase Utley or even Brian Roberts would look fantastic. Brian Roberts being the only attainable 2B of those two. He would add a ridiculous offensive oomph to the lineup. He has a high OBP and can take the extra base and steal some as well. He would effectively move Quentin and Crede down in the order and make them our two weakest hitters, which is ridiculous.
  4. Cough*Boone Logan*Cough 5k in 4.1 innings 2.08 ERA .69 WHIP Boone came basically out of nowhere with a new arm angle and has been stellar for us so far, and has shown flashes of brilliance last year holing Lefties to a .221 BA with 22k in 23 IP. Matt Thornton came out of obscurity and has been stellar for us as well this season with a 2.25 ERA and .75 WHIP in 4IP with 5k. I dont think our pen will get much credit unless they keep it up halfway through the season. Just wanted to point out not only how under the radar they are, but also how much improved it is off the bat this year over last season.
  5. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) Rock, I'm looking for some hip hop and rock music with lots of girls. No techno, reggaeton stuff... I heard rush/division was a good spot because of all the places within walking distance which is what I would like. Are Crobar, Hugs and Hunnies, and Coyote Ugly any good? I was told about some other places, but can't remember the names... No dude, you fill find every tourist in chicago at one of those places. Do you like lounges or clubs or just bars?
  6. Danks not giving up frequent homers helps. He's been keeping the ball down nicely.
  7. What are you looking to do? I can suggest some spots based on what crowd you'd like to hang out with and what you want to accomplish. Typically for someone your age, you can hang around the DePaul haunts near lincoln or up in wrigleyville with that swine. Southport corridor isnt bad, and rush/division and old town have its quality spots.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) I would figure that eventually they will encode the signal in MPEG4 and use a much better codec. The current Comcast software and hardware DVR platform is going away because of the quality issues you speak of. They are going to get away from running the windows runtime evironment under the Motorolla platform, and run a Tivo probably over Linux on the Panasonic platform. They have had numerous problems with the Motorolla chipset, and their video codec. Hopefully this gets fixed with some better set top hardware and software. Your freaking nerdisms are hilarious. But you are right, i've been through 4 boxes in 3 years, the platform is awful.
  9. If you saw an 150 lb cougar in front of you in the street, I would say the odds of you crapping your pants are at least 60 percent. Those things could tear you up quickly and move on to the next kill. I saw people were really upset that the cops shot the animal. Honestly, an animal like that in a residential area should be shot on sight.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws I'll be there and I can't wait. The Sox have been great to us all along out here, but it's just a wonderful thing the Sox are doing for the baseball team here and especially the school having this game. Our baseball team is actually pretty good too on a lighter note, so hopefully we'll get a win. The job the Sox have done to try and help NIU since 2/14 has made me as proud as ever to be a Sox fan. Boyer and Reinsdorf do not get enough credit in the media. Instead we have pompous asses like Mariotti taking pot shots at the org every day. Is there really any owner in sports that has given back to a city as much as Jerry has?
  11. QUOTE (Tmar @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) f***, they played a day game? Yeah and they won, so you arent allowed to watch games anymore.
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) I didn't realize that the Phillies were paying for Thome's option year. In that case, it might not be a terrible idea. Still, I'd prefer to put the money towards the first year of a four-year deal for Joe. The Sox desperately need to get younger. Younger by getting rid of/trading Joe, inserting Fields, and signing a free agent arm hopefully to take the Count's place.
  13. All signs point to Crede slowing down. Even if it made sense for the Sox to sign him, now is not the time.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) I'm no expert in the matter, but why invest in fiber optics when the future is going to be wireless? Also, this is another reason I'm a happy RCN customer. Thats like saying Lexus is downgrading their cars to make them just a little less luxury, and someone pipes in and says, this is why I love my 1985 skylark!
  15. Damn, I was hoping maybe it would make them change the awfulness that is honkers ale.
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) so what someone hit in their last season of MLB action is the only thing that person can do in his next season? Wow, that makes sense. You do realize that Uribe actually had a couple of solid, full seasons at the ML level, right? Years ago. Richar has a higher ceiling and is the future at 2B. Right now his offense would be better than Uribe's, if he were healthy.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) I know what your saying, but we've got a guy in AAA that is definitely better than two of our major league pitchers and that isn't right, especially with MacDougal having an option left (and I know he has a 3 ERA, but he's allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings so that won't last at this rate). And on topic, good to see Shirek off to a good start, a lot of people were high on him as a steal pick. Well ehren doesn't compete for a spot with masset so that's pretty much irrelevant. He could displace mac but that would hinge on a complete blow up by mike before that would happen. Ehren has plenty of time and options to help the big club eventually, and the bullpen isn't really an issue at this point.
  18. QUOTE (GBORN @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Great Day at the Cell!!! GO-SOX GO Welcome!!! :headbang
  19. I guess I wasnt aware that all levels of umps stick up for themselves. I dabbled in baseball a bit in my career and still wouldnt stick up for other players just cause I played. Whatev. Ozzie is awesome, end of discussion.
  20. QUOTE (Good Guys @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) Now if we can just get a Cubs loss. Then all will really be right. Philly threw it away already.
  21. Sweet! Another awful calling people out thread. Wooo!!!!
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Quentin might be a better overall player than Anderson at both of their peak levels, but Anderson living up to his potential (assuming he does, and watching him lately, he just might) is still a pretty good player. Hopefully Anderson could stick around for a while and we'd have a OF of Swisher-Anderson-Quentin when Dye leaves, that'd be pretty decent. Absolutely. BA is the ideal CF, with Swish in LF and Q in right eventually. I'd like to see a nice rotation defensively this season in the later innings as well.
  23. Please lets show how we can hit lefties tomorrow. Q and Swish should help.
  24. Is there any group of fans that feels positively about other groups? Every Tiger fan on their board today talks about how awful us Sox fans are, how terrible we treat them and how terrible chicago is. I feel the exact same about them. I have yet to meet a nice gracious intelligent Tigers fan at one of our games, and I dont know how anyone from Detroit could ever say anything negative about another city unless its Newark.
