Quentin is so good is retarded. He is hammering that right center gap. Walks, RBI's a bit of defense. Man what a player.

LOL at the fat friend being the enforcer. Kids these days are seriously demented. Watch some of the freaks on the Real World, or any reality show on MTV, sweet sixteen, the show where the kids boyfriend or girlfriend yells at their parents. Parenting has become hands off, just buy the kids things, and this is what comes of it. It sounded like not only a myspace issue, but a boyfriend cheating issue was the root of this incident, absolutely retarded. Honestly the girls probably dont deserve serious long jail time since they are young and just need to mature, but since they are going to set a precedent, these girls are finished.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) It's really not that hard to ignore Cubs stuff and to not care about Cubs stuff. Yeah right. Its in every bar, on every news station, every paper, more than half the people i work with and run into on the street, its everywhere and I hate it all. Cubs fans never cease to talk s*** about the Sox and our fanbase.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) The problem for Longoria is its like insurance, The only way he wins is if something bad happens to hiim. If he plays to his potential he lost a lot of money. Basically he paid up front to reduce his risk. Right. Think if they had given Baldelli this kind of deal when he was a young stud.

Go cubs Go is probably the gayest thing ever.

A few more observations from last night: Carlos hit 2 dingers. One on a breaking ball to left and one on a fastball to right. Its said when he gets going his power is going to be to right center, so its a good sign he hit one hard there. The baltimore announcers are pretty good, but the fans are not, they consistently threw HR balls back onto the field. Give it to a kid guys. Gavin Floyd it starting to like to attack hitters. He is starting to realize his fastball can give him a strike right away on batters, this is a good thing.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) I blame Al Gore and Global Warming! Honestly...you're right and I had a good night's rest after initially throwing a little pissy-fit. Still in 1st...and guess what...the sun did come up this morning and it's a new day. Let's get 'em tonight. Just think if we had the pen from last season. We would barely be sniffing .500 at best. Floyd really made the loss not hurt as much for me, and even watching the 9th inning again and reading Southsidesox.com (shout out) i feel better.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) No, he knows he has a world of talent. This deal was done for him to get more money in his pocket the next few years. I think it's a brilliant move by Tampa. Me too. There are several young players that could be locked into such a deal and extend their contributions for the big club.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I think you need to get over the Cubs. Just ignore them; what they do has no effect on the White Sox aside from 6 games a year. Yes, while im at it I will ignore everything in chicago around me.
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) Every year it seems to me that they get worse and worse, drunker and drunker, they really need to tear down wrigley just so they don't give Chicago a bad name. Eventually its going to tear down itself. Daley is trying his hardest to make sure they cant improve it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Can she play for the Pirates? 3 gift runs for the Cubs, as the Pirates are making defense seem impossible. The Cubs simply are beating bad teams. They show up, try to get a little bit of pitching, beat up on bp pitching from the opposition and try to barely win. I have a feeling when they go to the west coast, they are going to come home a beaten up team.

So, teams with less money now can take the stock market approach and guarantee young players money over long contracts, but have to take the risk that they will actually pan out. Not a bad idea.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) I hope he stay's there for a while. He should since Carlos is raking, but Owens is already starting off hot, which isnt a good sign for anyone.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) josh with 3 Ks...damn he Kd alot last year but this pace is getting ridiculous Somehow still getting on base at a .370 pace.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) I think a lot of it stems from just disliking the Cubs in general and being a Sox fan is just the kicker. I think the whole lovable loser thing is ridiculous and think the team exploits its "fans" more than most others in sports. The Packers on the other hand I actually respect as an organization. So in terms of on the field rivalry I would say I would rather see the Bears beat the Packers but in terms of just disliking an organization I would say the Cubs/Sox rivalry is more intense. I know I dont watch the Packers play very often and hope for a loss like I do many times during the summer when the cubs are on.

Hahaha, blaming, debating, ridiculous. First game all season we lost while taking the lead into the 8th. Bullpen has been stellar, blaming Ozzie, blaming Jenks, blaming LInebrink, blame, blame, blame. We lost, it happens, our pen has been excellent, and no pen can ever be perfect.

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Yeah, it happens. I think I said that earlier. I'm not even all that upset. You sound like you might be. And, sure, I guess maybe I overstated the case about throwing the curve every time (although you'll see that I'm not alone in thinking that). But, if we were to check those tapes of yours, I'd estimate he's more than 75% of the time with the curve there. I'd put the fastballs at under 10%. Off-speed, in the dirt -- that's what he predominantly throws. In fact, the whole thing that shows his growth as a pitcher is that he has TOTAL CONFIDENCE in throwing that off-speed -- often wild -- pitch now, even with a runner on 3rd. He didn't have that before. Even if its 75 percent, its his best pitch, his out pitch. Do you think Pad's fans are wondering why Hoffman throws his change so much in 0-2 counts? It makes me mad that even a few of the people on here are putting it on pitch selection and Bobby. The defense failed, our bullpen FINALLY cracked and it is what it is. We will go out and win the the next series. I am mad that they lost a game they should have won, but frankly, the fact that our 5th starter appear so dominant makes me giddy. If Floyd pitches like that all season, we will win probably 95 percent of those games.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) Ok, then why is it all about intensity? Why isn't it bad to cheer for two teams in the same division? The question isn't which one is more intense (no doubt that's Sox/Cubs), but as a sports fan which combo is worse to cheer for. Honestly, I love seeing the Cubs lose any time they can, but it rarely ever affects the Sox (unless they are playing an AL Central team or a really good AL team that can get the WC). Because the hatred and disrespect between Cubs/Sox fans are higher than that of Bears/packers fans, which is why its worse to cheer for them both. There probably isnt a more sterotyped, social-economic, hatred driven, rivalry for chicago sports fans than Cubs/Sox, which is why is worse to cheer for them both.
-
QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Um, if you're talking about me, check your facts...I lived in Chicago my whole life and go to school in Florida. How many Packers fans are at a Bears game? How many of them are insane enough to try to start s***? Its not personal, just an observation. Thats also a reason why the rivalry isnt as intense. Packers/Bears may have been crazy back in the day, but its not that way anymore. In fact at a Bears game, I think Detroit/Chicago is more intense. If you go to a bar around chicago during one of these games, the stadium during the games, or even THIS messageboard during one of them, I guarantee that cubs/sox is most intense, theres no question.
-
QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) Bears/Packers...they're in the same division and are rivals, while the Sox and Cubs are rivals, but are in different leagues. That's like being a Sox and Tigers fan or a Sox and Indians fan. Funny how alot of the people saying Packers/Bears dont live in chicago. How many fights break out in Soldier field during the games? Cubs/Sox games are 200% more intense than Bears/Packers. Bars, taverns, households, and the stadium its much more intense of a rivalry.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) Can't make any complaints about the bullpen except for Masset being on the big club. Octavio, Boone, Thornton Jenks and Linebrink have been rock solid. Well thats pretty stupid, Masset has proved the value of having a long reliever already this season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Yep, I've debated typing this after the game, but here it goes: I would rather the Sox lose tonight, given that Floyd was great, instead of winning 10-8 and Floyd going 3 innings and allowing 5 runs. How about the guys that were waiting to see him against someone other than the Tigers? Hmmm? SP has been solid, first real blip for the pen. Its going to happen, move on.
-
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) Seriously, totally agree on the 0-2 curve. Every. Time. Bulls***, would you like to check his game tapes? He will throw a fastball, slider and change on 0-2. He didnt nail it down, so what? It happens, go out and win the next series.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) that's why completely pissing away game like this jack me. Inexcusable. 2 big errors. And goddman AJ...his calling the game left a lot to be desired. Now I'm gonna be pissed the rest of the night and get a s***ty nights sleep. Sucks to be you then. Great job by Floyd.

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) Oh s***, I'm glad I mentioned it. Clubs and bars. Just somewhere I can have a wild/fun night out meeting some good looking women and having fun with friends. Like I mentioned before, some good hip hop and/or rock music. BTW this is exactly why I asked for some input on places to go. As you can see not great recommendations there. At your age most of the folks hang out up north in the Depaul area, and possibly wrigleyville. Moe's is a big hot spot by Wrigley, lots of good women there. Rockit mentioned above is a pretty good time as well, it just seems to me its a little older crowd because the drinks tend to be pricier downtown. For lounges and clubs-NV, Krem, Stone Lotus, Enclave seem to be the hotter ones right now, RiNO or Spy for late night clubbing. Some people like Moda as well. For just bars and a younger female crowd, I would try Moe's, the apartment, McGee's, Grand Central, McFaddens, pretty much anything in Bucktown and Wicker (but thats a more artsy crowd if thats your thing), Goodbar, Barleycorn on Lincoln (and then you could just walk that portion of lincoln and check out the 15 or so bars within 3 blocks). For latenight bar action try Big City, Tai's till 4, Franks, and I cant seem to remember the 2 more since its so early in the morning. Some of that will get you started on some of your basic first steps towards the Chi nightlife. After you complete that layer, we can start moving into the lesser "name" places that are super solid.
