Imagine in 2 years and baseball experts are sitting around a table talking about their favorite players from 2000-2010. They get to the subject of who the best player was at the hot corner (thats 3B for all you kids out there). Everyone goes around the table and mentions their favorites for the best, then some guy says "Joe Crede". What kind of reaction do you think that would get?

I just dont f***ing get it here anymore.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) The only thing that makes it close is you saying "in their prime." That can be made to read 2006 for joe and any one of a number of awesome years for Ventura. Ventura was the better defensive player, and much more reliable. He had a better eye and was a better baseball player. The only thing joe might have is more power, but I'm not even convinced that is true. Robin's 1996 blankets joe's 2006 in every category including defense. Joe Crede's best year and really only good year. .283 .323 .506 30hr 90RBI Robin Ventura's good years 1991 .284 .367 .506 23 hr 100rbi 1992 .282 .375 .442 16hr 93 rbi 1993 .262 .379 .433 22hr 94 rbi 1994 .282 .373 .459 18hr 78rbi (109 games) 1995 .295 .384 .498 26hr 93rbi 1996 .287 .368 .520 34hr 105rbi 1997 .262 .373 .426 (54 games) 1999 .301 .379 .529 32hr 120rbi he continued to post more than 20hr each season until retirement and posted better than avg obp at .338-.368. And I still have no idea how Crede could have more power, Robin outslugged him over their careers and pretty much each season.

QUOTE(Adam G @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) I think they're pretty comparable offensively, with Ventura hitting for a little better average and Crede having a little more power. Defense, give me Crede. There is no better evidence about the legend of Joe Crede than this post right here. Crede isnt near the same class as Robin in any way, shape or form, yet you still take Crede, and you call them comparable. Wow. Im not even going to do good research. Is Crede even the best in his own division? He also ranks 10th in career SLG for a 3B. Robins LOWEST OBP in a full season was his rookie year at .324, LOWEST. I just hope you are too young to remember Robin Ventura. Freaking Legend Of Joe Crede strikes again.

Konerko quietly available

Konerko quietly available

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) What about Konerko? If the Mets wanted to do something truly extravagant, they could make a run at White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, who remains quietly available, according to a major-league source. The problem is, the Mets owe Delgado $20 million — $16 million this season, plus a $4 million buyout — and Konerko is guaranteed $12 million in each of the next three seasons. Even for a New York team, that's a little much. Unlikely as a trade of Konerko might be, such a move would be especially appealing to the White Sox if they could acquire a quality starting pitcher in return. Right-hander Jose Contreras is back to throwing 93 to 94 mph, but the White Sox still plan to use two inexperienced starters, lefty John Danks and righty Gavin Floyd. Konerko, because of his service time, will gain full no-trade protection early in the season. The White Sox could move center fielder Nick Swisher or left fielder/third baseman Josh Fields to first and keep Joe Crede at third in his final year before becoming a free agent. Of course, the market for first basemen is thin at this time of year — and even thinner for those with $12 million salaries. Frankly, the Yankees might need Konerko even more than the Mets, and they could even include center fielder Melky Cabrera in the trade. But if the White Sox were going to take back a high-salary pitcher, they surely would want better than Kei Igawa or — ahem — Carl Pavano. Konerko is signed way below market price, thats actually one of his positives. Hes a relatively good priced middle of the order bat that isnt swiss cheese in the IF, he would bring back a decent amount of value. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Tomorrow night's game is pretty much completely sold-out -- only standing room left. I actually grabbed some face value outside the stadium last time this happened a week or two ago. Its worth trying if you are in the area. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Anderson to get traded, to the Marlins. With Maybin hurting a bit with his hamstring, they'll need a young CF to replace him, BA would be the perfect candidate. If the Sox just wanted to bring up another OF, they could just go with Bourgeois instead. Why trade him just to make a trade? Why not keep the depth with an aging team? I dont understand the notion of everyone on this site to trade anyone that isnt a starter.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) If he can carry it over, he's a heck of a backup option. I would rather him get at bats at AAA and continue the trend and bring him up when the injury bug hits. Thome and Dye are going to be hurt this season, we need guys in AAA who can be brought up and compete.

Career builder and Monster can give you great access to recruiters as well as a very limited amount of quality jobs, I actually got my second job out of college off of monster and I stayed there 5 years. My latest job and the best paying ive ever had I got off of Linkedin. Its a great network for people to see who you are, if you have references and where you've been. My company's recruiters use it alot.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) Since the topic is HDTVs, I got a question about how you all are generally setting up your surround sound receiver with them. I just bought a new Plasma TV that has 2 HDMIs in, and I am looking to buy a new receiver. My question is, do I really need to get a receiver that can handle HDMI, or should I just hook up my HD stuff directly to the TV, then use the Optical output from the TV to the receiver for the sound? I'm looking at spending around $300 - $400 for a receiver and am not sure if I really need the extra HDMI stuff that adds to the price pretty quickly. I never run video through my receiver as there is no benefit for me to have it run through another system of wires. I have optical or coax sound running from DVD and HD to the receiver, all video direct from source to TV through HDMI. The only benefit of running it through another sytem is if it gives you switching capability, which I still dont trust.

From today's press release: The white sox lead all major league teams with 32 doubles, 58 runs scored, 105 hits, 154 total bases and are second with a .348 average and .421 obp. The sox 32 doubles are 12 more than their closest competitor. The white sox have recorded at least 10 hits in seven of 8 games. Alexei Ramirez has reached base in all four cactus league games. Brian Anderson has reached base seven times in his last four contests. Paul 'onerko has gone 7-9 with five RBI in his last three games. Let's keep it up! And happy bday to Paulie!

QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 02:18 AM) So folks, yes or no, is Brian worthy of a spot in the Sox outfield if he keeps hitting all spring? Do you think he's getting a serious look? He's pulled this "I can hit in spring training" charade before. He really doesnt have much of a spot in this OF. He should be in AAA where he can come up when Dye gets hurt.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Nice work OSU, Wisconsin owes you one. Maybe a Wisco booster paid Butler to not only re-join the team but to begin making baskets. -
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) I'm not saying not to be excited about Quentin being a good player. Hell, I am. I just think some people need to temper their enthusiasm a bit. They're acting like Quentin is already a fringe All-Star player from his first ABs with the Sox. When in reality he's going to need time and patience. No, but he's better than Brian Anderson a ton, and will out produce Jerry Owens this season as well. He's a top talent and if you've seen him at all you should recognize that.

Report: Brett Favre to retire

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) He'll go down as my favorite football player of all time. Growing up a QB in Pop Warner and high school, he was my guy. Like the Bears? Fine. Hate the Packers? That's fine too. I'm just going to miss watching him play football on Sunday. That was a treat for many years. I hate him like no other, but god damn it was fun to watch that guy play. Best ever. -
Wow, the sox are on a doubles tear. BTW, I think Thome plays less than 120 games this season. We need that extra depth with Quentin, JO, and A-ram.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) I don't think you've been paying attention. And with Erstad, of course it was his ability that made him bad. He was healthy for the first two months and... subsequently put up a .315 OBP which, quite frankly, should've been expected. I believe ZiPS and PECOTA had him pegged for around .330. Erstad as 4th OFer/bench player = okay. Erstad as starter (going back to the end of 2004, really). And ditto Podsednik, who hasn't been a good ballplayer since the first-half of 2005 (and the playoffs, of course -- thanks Scott!). Nope, I didnt read that. And I said ability, which they both had to be effective, of course the probability of them not being effective was much higher. I think you confused me for endorsing those players, those signings were awful. All I know is that a white sox fan should want the OF to be Quentin, Swish and Dye, because that gives us the most talent offensively IMO. Quentin is going to end up a ridiculously superior hitter than Owens. Most likely Swish should lead off at this point.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) And all of... one division title and playoff appearance. It's like last year all over again. They (Kenny, the media...) told us how awesome our top-of-the-order was going to be with Podsednik and Erstad. Speed and a guy who can handle the bat? OMGz teh awesome!!!!1 Hell -- IIRC -- you had the pro-Erstad people telling the anti-Erstad people after April -- after Erstad had put up an amazing .313 OBP -- how wrong they were. Yeah -- that turned out well. It's an embarrassment that we actually have to discuss whether Jerry f***ing Owens is going to be starting. It wasnt their ability that made them bad, it was the fact that they were injured the entire season. There also werent really any betterin house options. Jerry could very well end up being a good lead off hitter. Of course the only player that has really seriously been mentioned as the lead off hitter in the papers has been Swish, but that hasnt stopped Soxtalk from jumping to its collective conclusions.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) When experts were asked who they'd choose b/w Kane and Toews, 9 out of 10 said Toews IIRC. They said that Kane could get over 100 points in a season, but Toews is the type of player (a better offensive version of Rod Brindamour) that wins you a championship. And I don't think it's any secret we've won 7 out of our last 10 with Toews starting to round into form. It still doesnt mean that Kane isnt on the same level as Toews is. Kane's biggest knock is that he isnt big or aggressive enough. I know of another very prolific scorer who wasnt big or aggressive and he ended up quite the player...... -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) The Cubs would also take Jay Payton from the Orioles. They'd give up Marshall, Gallagher, Cedeno, and Murton. So, garbage, prospect, garbage, garbage. It doesnt make sense for the O's. Why would they take on a bunch of players that cant make the team for the cubs?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) So an opposing team shooting ~55% from beyond the arc means Indiana players aren't "into it"? That's brilliant logic. Im sure a couple of hands in the faces of those shooters may have made a difference. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) So Kane and Toews aren't the two best players in the world -- awesome, thanks for that insight. I'd argue that Toews has a shot in being in the tier directly below that, and Kane probably in the group below that. I'd argue that Kane belongs on the same Tier as Toews. Kane is going to turn out to be one of the more dynamic point scorers that we've seen in quite awhile.
