  1. there was a funnier one like that with actual video....searching
  2. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) They have to trade paulie sometime in may for that to be possible if I recall correctly. I don't see them giving up that early. Also dye has a full NTC for '08. So your situation gets even more unlikely unless those two get injured. And you'd hope they would be able to get the heir to Contreras's spot in the rotation.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) I hadn't really considered just how bad alcohol is, and use to think dry counties were kind of stupid, but you have opened my eyes. Thank you. Ha, being dry would suck balls, its good when "regulated" which is about where I think pot could be in theory.
  4. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) LOL. Doctor Soriano getting a little carried away with an annual checkup? We know how much the cubs like to check each others oil.
  5. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) I am thinking i have this one easy +5-10 barring injury. Thoughts? I may also have a bet with total number of Sox pitchers to start a game, Cubs fan wants the over at 11. fukudome has yet to show any power in ST to me watching him, Swish should hit 30 at least.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Alcohol is used to sterlize instruments. But you are right, alcohol should be banned. Oh, so you are talking about drinking rubbing alcohol? IN that case we should ban Sterno as well since thats the same chemical formula, and homeless people melt THAT down and drink it, true story.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) I was just thinking that if pot was legal and alcohol was illegal, that the alcohol drinkers would be making similar arguments and comparisons to pot. But may be we do not need to make available every escapism mood elevator in our society. Alcohol has zero medicinal value and has not only horrifically higher impairment, but also can kill you in a short period of time. Alcohol kills people by stupidity and also by its chemical makeup.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) He's only leading off once a game. I really don't think it's that big of a deal. Hell, there will be a lot of games where Thome leads off an inning more than Swisher. Is that really that big of a deal? The he's only leading off once argument has zero legs because the dynamic of the lineup still stays the same. He will still hit in front of most of our RBI guys and will have low OBP weaker hitters in front of him no matter what. He will have less RBI opportunities than he would lower in the order.
  9. I took his quote as the exact opposite as what you tried to say in starting this thread. Have no idea why it was started.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) Hopefully they do this, as opposed to giving Owens a starting job. Swish would make a great leadoff man. I actually dont like it because I think Swish is an RBI machine from what ive seen of him. But we really have no other option at this point.
  11. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:59 AM) One who used to smoke pot frequently, the negatives for myself are as followed: 1. Laziness. 2. Extreme appetite 3. Short term memory loss 4. Reduced motor skills (slower reaction time) 5. Paranoia 6. Sheltering (I wanted to be alone more often). I drove high off my ass plenty of times and there were a few occasions when I forgot where I was, where I was going, or even sometimes that I needed to stop at a red light. Sometimes I'd follow behind a car, totally zone out about how brilliant rainbows are and find myself breaking last second to avoid slamming the car in front of me. If I did actually concentrate on the road and all of it's triumphs, though, I was a better driver. I didn't speed. I didn't tail cars. I didn't take all the risks I do as while driving sober. I'd drive like an old grandma. However, this wasn't easy to do. As soon as something distracted me (like, McDonalds), I'd drive like a grandma with no court vision--no semblence of anything going on around me. Paranoia was bad at times. I didn't see red beasts coming out of the T.V. But sometimes, depending on the weed, it made me suicidal. I don't think this is widespread; perhaps more of a genetics thing because it does the same to my brother. I never actually walked to edge of the cliff, but I did have dark thoughts. This didn't last through the entire high. Usually the first stage (the first 10 minutes) was fantastic, then the next hour was Sylvia Plath night, and the rest of the high was mellow, let's eat some hot dogs and sit and relax. I smoked heavy for about a year and gained 22 pounds. I'm still trying to shed that off. The sheltered part may also be more genetic. I've always been a person that likes to be alone, so has my brother and dad. I have to know someone to be able to relax regardless of whether I'm high or not. Judging only from my experiences, it's a low risk drug. With proper regulations on it, I don't see the legalization of marjiuana becoming a major problem. Not as bad as alcohol, anyway. Yeah, I do not experience any of those symptoms at all. Do you experience some of that when you drink as well?
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) And that's why it was a stupid deal....but it doesn't mean Garland shouldn't have been moved. Garland for Cabrera+2 prospects. How is that a bad deal?
  13. I think BA has played himself into CF and I like Ozzie comments about OBP.
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) I'm several days late, but it was everything I expected from the parade. Most notably the endless amount of drunken antics. It had been several years since my last appearance, and with all the great moments were distinct minders of why the parade is ridiculous. Bars are damn near impossible to enter. You can't openly drink alcohol within sight of Western. It's an adventure trying to find a place to piss. You're options are either find a place or wait in line for 15 minutes. Of couse, don't forget about everyone's favorite issue -- parking. Our group parked two blocks west of Kedzie and hiked through the cemetary along 111th. I felt sorry for the people visiting deceased relatives and having to deal with drunks trampling over gravesites and using the ground as trash. It was fun, though. For the first half of the parade we were in Kennedy park drinking everything within our bookbags. If only it had been warmer. My favorite memory of the day was walking through a business parking lot off 106th and Western, trying to cut through the alley to avoid walking traffic, and seeing a drunken, FAT ASS girl -- everything pulled down below her waste -- having her friend hold her up while she's leaning against a car pissing. This is why i strongly recommend people grabbing buses from bars in the city so you can drink on your way down, and also dont have to park, the train is a good way to get there as well.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Closing your eyes while driving also can impair your driving. Climbing into the back seat while the car is on cruise control can impair your driving. Those are stupid actions. There are always stupid people doing stupid things. The issue is when people take chemicals into their body that mimic stupidity for long periods of time. Taking an drug or chemical ( alcohol included ) that has any affect on your motor skills is just a different matter. When you are high or drunk you dont exactly have the capability to make sound judgements on the status of your well being. How many times have people been drunk or high and had no clue on how impaired you were. Sure when you wake up and have blackouts you have an idea. But normally you dont have a clue and cannot make a sound judgement onto your sobriety status. Which is why if it was legal it should be regulated like other impairing drugs such as alcohol, vicodin, xanax, etc. Its in the same realm as those as far as regulation, but it doesnt have the side effects nor the threat of overdose.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Just for you. Now Santo has two of us to argue with. Well, I think since it wasnt his opinion you can combat the study if he posts it.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) I messed up, I should of realized the marijuana makes you a better driver. Wow the innocent fools that I locked up before. I feel bad now. The first poor innocent guy, I mean I should of taken his word for it. He was lost. Now I got suspicious when he got lost by driving his mothers car over the front of some elderly couples lawn, and kept backing up and slamming into the fence for 15 minutes at 2am. While his friend was yelling move maaaannnn. Now I got more suspicious when I came up to the car, smelled the marijuana, saw these billows of smoke coming out of the drivers seat with the two kids laughing their asses off. The of course when they recognized that the mars lights weren't some addition to their music the passenger yelled s*** man its the cops. Now he was also good natured and wanted to share, that is why he thought that if he offered me a hit we could let bygones be bygones. I must of misread the situation. And the poor guy I caught that was doing 15 mph on street was driving safer as you say. He was being extra safe on that 55mph speed limit street. And with his lights turned off, and his windshield wipers going, no rain and at 4am he was probably trying to signal mars. Now granted the marijuana users are probably better natured that some of the combative drunks who want to fist fight with you. But shockingly people can get impaired with marijuana as well. You can for sure get impaired as it slows your motor skills, but not nearly to the extent of alcohol. IN fact cell phones impair driving more than Marijuana. Thats something that causes an actual danger on the road.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) But how does pot make people better drivers, yet somehow worst surgeons? I never saw anyone say that. Stone cold sober is usually the best way to go through life, unless you need medication to function.
  19. I think BA just played himself into CF. He's clearly playing at a different level than Ive seen him before in ST.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Are you saying he would be impaired? He'd be impaired if he had a cold and took cold medicine, so yes he would be considering impairment is such a giant blanket statement. You can be impaired by coffee, pop, different foods, mood, blood chemistry, sleep deprivation etc etc. So I dont know what kind of statement you are trying to make.
  21. I got one at champs at yorktown for 20 bucks.
  22. I'd love to see the threads in 2006/07 talking about how bad we all want Jerry Owens to be up and playing, considering now they are pretty much the opposite. As is Soxtalk.
  23. Swish may end up being the most productive hitter on the Sox this season.
  24. I liked to hear that Ventura came up and worked with Fields on his defense.
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) ^^^ How many would want their surgeon smoking a joint right before operating? Makes zero sense considering I dont even want my surgeon in a fight with his wife before operating, having a bad day, dust in his eye, headache, twitch, ANYTHING.
