  1. the total is up to 33. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) This is really unbelievable. I'm sure many Americans will remember where they were when they heard this. It's strange that several days ago I was watching a special on the Discovery Channel devoted to the Columbine attacks. While viewing an automated clock display the time at which events occured, I thought the same thing as Bmags -- most large campuses are disperse and populated by thousands of students. How could something such as that be prevented? There really is not much you can do to prevent future shootings. Sure, an email was sent; but not all commuters have access. Neither do the students attending a class. The best solution I can think of off hand is installing an intercom near the entrances of every building on campus. That way, if something such as this morning occurs atleast a lockdown can be instituted across campus. You know those "rape" kiosks where people can alert the authorities if there is something threatening as they walk home late at night. Why cant they install something like that across the campus and intercoms in the class rooms like a giant fire alarm.
  2. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) being on a large, open campus right now, I do worry about copy cats right now, but I it's not a large worry. We are a very open campus, though, and i just can't imagine the terror that would ensue if a gunman came in a large lecture hall, despite numerous exits in each, there would be a stampede. Now imagine what would happen if he chained the doors like in this case.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Danks is gonna be so f***ing good Now if we could grab his bro....
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) That's the scary thing. College campuses are incredibly vulnerable for these types of events. s***, even after the first shooting took place, there were so many people that were probably driving into class, or walking to class, with no way of knowing what had previously happened.
  5. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) I agree. It is very puzzlisdffg;nwse Sorry. It's hard to type while looking at RockRaines' new avatar.... Hahaha, i figured it was time for a change.
  6. QUOTE(WhiteSoxFan1 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) That was exactly what I was thinking, but it might have backfired on her a little bit because I exchanged a few text messages with her a couple of hours ago. She mentioned that it doesn’t look like her and her boyfriend are gonna get back together, but I could still sense a vibe that she wasn’t all that interested in what I had to offer. After evaluating a lot of the situation and reflecting on the weekend I agree with the general consensus here. It really spelled trouble for me from the very beginning with a no win situation. However, I don’t regret it at all because it was a learning situation, and honestly I feel like I learned a lot since Im not in date situations all that often, especially since my break up. I can’t say id turn down an offer if she asked to hang out again, but I think for sure this time shed have to be broken up and not "on a break". Also from here on out it’s on her terms. Ive decided not to contact her or play back and fourth games anymore; she knows how to get a hold of me if she wants to. Im going to live my life as I was before I met her and continue doing the things I enjoy and just let the pieces fall as they do. Seriously, ignore her now, because since she is out of a relationship she will go searching for comfort and something to replace those feelings. Once she starts chasing you because you are ignoring her, turn it into a hook up situation for you.
  7. Hey Fox News, what is the value of putting a little freshman on TV who claims she was at the "DZ fraternity" house all morning. Thanks for relaying what she saw on the news.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) I think it's way too early to jump to conclusions in a matter like this. Just look at Columbine...right afterwards, everyone tried to blame things like Marilyn Manson or the NRA, and it turns out that upon further examination, one of the 2 kids involved was quite literally a psychopathic killer. Eventually there will be an investigation, and there will always be more to it than just some bad event. The bad event may have set the person off...but no one goes and decides to start shooting people because they were bullied or because they didn't like a professor. The shocking part of this story is the ridiculous accuracy of this gunman. The guy was able to pick off so many people at such a high rate.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) What explanation could make it any better? This is a horror I can't even grasp yet. I've been away from my desk all day and logged on to see this thread and I'm in disbelief. Nothing, but I just cant fathom killing someone over bullying, breaking up with a girl, getting a bad grade. those are such simple things that as a human and a man, you should be able to deal with.
  10. If I could be both speculative and racist at the same time: The gunman was said to be asian, he shot up an engineering building...There is a decent chance he was a student in that dept.
  11. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Two speculations have been a girlfriend or a dispute with a professor. I'm not going to pay much attention to any theories on that until much later. I hope its not as simple as that.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Well the weather should be fine this weak, and we are going up against the 28th ranked pitching in baseball. If they get shut down this series, its time to come up with another excuse because cold weather, and other associated poo wont work. If we truly do see an offensive explosion, I expect a wave of momentum to carry us through the next few series.
  13. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Why wouldn't the campus have been completely locked down and all classes canceled after the first one? I think they didnt assess the situation correctly at first, they didnt know where the shooter was. Apparently the kid just walked across the campus and opened fire again. I cant believe it.
  14. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Exactly. Myself, more worried about Crede and AJP. Crede has zero XBH. Thats very puzzling.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Who gives a s***? Worry about someone who didnt have an OPS of 1.014 last season, or while "struggling" .984 this year... Im worried about Paulie, Crede and AJP more than Thome thats for sure.
  16. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) It would be great for the local economy and would force the city to be cleaned up. It would also make it very hard buy in the city for the next decade because real estate is gonna sky rocket. For those who are already home owners, that is a huge positive.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) That is true, but I don't think any of us want to see a pattern where Ozzie continues to have issues getting along with players that eventually the only solution is to trade them. If it is true that the players in question are bad in the clubhouse and are ill prepared, then I wouldnt mind.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I'm still waiting for Thome to do anything clutch in the 9th inning. However, he's the least of our offensive problems now. It's almost like the opposite of the first few months last year, when we had like 7 of our 9 offensive hitters doing well. Brian Anderson will never be a full-time starter under Ozzie again. I don't know what Anderson/McCarthy have done off the field, but I think Ozzie's doghouse is a one-way street. I for one, am glad that BMAC ended up in the doghouse. Danks/Masset will help us much more.
  19. I really like Mike and Mike. If it was a local show, they would be tops for me. I like to be entertained, I like good chemistry, and I depise the opinions of people like Jim Rome, where their word is supposed to be taken as god's decree.
  20. Thome has been coming on ok of late. His RBI opps havent been many, but he hasnt capitalized on too many of them. Either way the middle needs to be more productive. ESPECIALLY Joe (0 xbh) Crede
  21. OMG. What could make you do something this horrific?
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) I'd be way more willing to bet that Terrero comes up and takes 90% of the at bats (as it is now with Erstad/Anderson). You really think that when Erstad goes down that Terrero is going to start? Hilarious blind hatred.
  23. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) No, but its harder for the 3, 4, 5 to get RBI's if the 2 is always getting outs. How about hits? Is it harder for them to get hits?
