  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) Something happens to pitchers when they are in there with a small lead in the 9th inning. Their balls shrink.
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) Thing is, he's not really a LOOGY, didn't really have all that dramatic splits at AAA iirc. He's a starter, or if in the pen, a long reliever. He's also not very good.
  3. This is the guy everyone wanted to pitch to Hamilton. Lol.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Agree - his contract is a big anchor. Not really. It can be seen as an advantage in a trade scenario the way he's been pitching.
  5. Terrible officiating in this game. Calling too many dives in favor of the defense.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) I just don't see what purpose it served to put out that bad info. It isn't as if Melo was gonna read that tweet and say "s*** I'm going to NYK/LA/Houston now" Broussard has been blasted for it, and it was pretty much immediate. Clicks, lots and lots of clicks. Its the only thing they are evaluated on these days.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) Pretty good Trade Analysis by Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/cubs-athlet...billy-mckinney/ I agree with a lot of it. I still think any team with a good starter on the block wins here. If Danks continues to pitch well we could easily get a nice haul for him.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:50 AM) If all these guys can play SS, they have plenty of leverage. How many quality SS are available at any time and how many teams are looking for one? Besides, SS can always play other positions. The SS market will never be oversaturated. Beane will probably trade Samardzjia in the winter. Quality CF'ers and SS will never be devalued. Those are prime positions to stock up.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) In terms of cheap pizza, I'd take sbarros over PJs any day. This is making me incredibly hungry. It may be a Salernos type night.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) So answer the question. This winter when he's able to be traded, would you swap him straight up for Russell or Bryant? Because that's the kind of setup the Cubs are facing, needing a team to give up a talented pitcher for one of those hitters, if they're actually going to pull off a prospect for prospect swap. Personally if given the choice I lean towards the pitching but I'd be interested to see someone argue the other way. I really like Rodon and I like pitching more than minor league hitting. However we haven't seen Rodon pitch one pro inning yet so making that decision now is impossible.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) Per usual, Broussard just made it all up. How that bigoted clown still has a job is beyond me. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baske...0,7047449.story Ha. I called him KC Jones.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) Assuming he signs, would people trade Rodon for Russell or Bryant straight up? He'll sign.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) So don't the Cubs absolutely need to move Starlin Castro and like right now? Not if they plan on flipping prospects for other prospects. But I would for sure. Flip him for pitching ASAP.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Well the key to the Cubs (and the Astros for that matter), is just the sheer depth of talent... They're going to be bringing them up in waves... They need pitching so it depends if they trade these guys now for it or if they wait and flip em for mlb pitching later. They have lots of right handed power bats at redundant positions.
  15. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) By the way, whilst we're on Brandon Maurer, he's been really excellent since going to the bullpen. Had one outing in AAA where he K'd 9 in 3.1 IP. I'd rather someone back who could potentially start but he could be a Dellin Betances-lite. If we could get a starter or a prospect that could be a middle rotation starter I would be pretty stoked.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) Well, I read your comments regarding trading these prospects right back away for mlb talent as mocking... As for the Sox, I like what Hahn is doing...and it appears we have two of the brighter stars in baseball, but I think the Cubs may vault right past us in a few years in terms of talent and newsworthiness. Imagine a young nucleus of superstar talent on the Cubs, of all teams...the Sox may very well be an afterthought for a few years unless they are making consistent postseason appearances. No, I was stating we could contend now if we had a stockpile like that. However we still have one of the best hitters and pitchers in he league secured for many years. Unless the cubs develop those guys into that high of a level they can't vault past us. And I also believe in Hahns ability to acquire enough talent around them. Prospects are great but as we have seen with other trades like this they aren't a sure of a thing as what we already have. Now if they flip a prospect or two for a real top line starter they will be getting there. Signing Rizzo to that long term deal seems pretty brilliant right now.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) Papa Johns is probably my favorite nationwide chain pizza. It's at least a bit unique in flavor comparatively. Plus the cheese sticks and garlic sauce, man. It's not all that bad. As Chicagoans we are super spoiled. Just travel to another city and try their best pizza, it's probably trash.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Jordan Danks is fine as a 4th OF, to be used mostly as a pinch-runner/defensive replacement. Biggest reason Sierra gets the nod over him is that two of the starting OF are left-handed. Danks isn't on the roster of a contending team. So I'd rather look for someone who will.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) They may very well end up trading some of them away; and I get your mocking of them, I do. But when they get 5-6 of these guys playing together and start tasting some success, they're going to be able to acquire any number of mlb pieces to fill in any holes remaining from their farm system, either via FA, or trade. And the sad thing is, at least for envious Sox fans, that Hammel will just come back and sign with them again next offseason. I don't think I've been mocking them. I'd like to see what he does with these players though before calling him a genius. For the sox. We have some holes on the roster that are because of injuries and also lack of minor league talent. We also need to fill bullpen slots which is something that is hard to do by trading away valuable talent or even signing. The bullpen is so important yet it's one of the most difficult things to solve. But we aren't that far away from being in serious contention. And when that happens both sides of town should be competitive like the good ol days. Then we will really see some hate.
  20. QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 01:32 AM) Not even close.........I can think of two pizza worse than Papa John's off the top of my head....Sbarro's and CiCi's pizza (not to mention the aforementioned Chucky Cheese's) I'd take Papa John's over Pizza Hut as well....though my wife is the other way around so it's always an adventure ordering....unless we spend a bit more and just go to Aurelio's........ There are many worse. Drive to Ohio, stop for pizza anywhere. And it's finally Saturday and I've gotten over my flu. Monday to Saturday. Incredible.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) At the very least, that organization is going to become extremely interesting to watch in the next few years. A lot of folks poke fun at the Cubs "plan," but I absolutely admire their patience and resolve to stick with it. They clearly are going to be one of the busier teams next winter when it's all said and done which is interesting. I'd love it if we had that many top prospects to trade for mlb players. We would fill our holes in the big league roster now.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) I love all the hate in this thread haha. What an excellent trade by the Cubs. When you can get an Addison Russell for guys that won't be in the plans moving forward, it's just an excellent move. I can't believe Oakland moved him but they are probably the AL favorites now. McKinney is a nice get too. The Cubs easily have the #1 farm system in baseball. I don't see much hate, I see a good discussion.
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) I don't think we'll get Bragg either, but you post things like it's fact. If you don't know him personally, where are you getting the information? As we know, recruiting is fluid. And not EVERYONE can go to UK. No I said it feels that way. Most of the people close to him in Ohio have been saying UK for awhile. It just seems like we've seen this movie before.
