  1. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) It's a lot more gray than that. Bobby brought on much of what came to him. I was Knight's biggest fan, but his actions have taken the shine off his star. We could discuss this ad naseum, but I'll just say that both sides were wrong and at this point, the ball is in Knight's court. If he chooses to be pig-headed, that's on him. He was IU in the 70's and 80's, which is in our era, but he is not bigger than IU. What separates you from PSU fans. Still, I understand his ego being how it is I love that guy. I was big into IU bball because of him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) To be fair, Indiana in the modern era was Bobby Knight, but they had a history before that including 2 NCAA titles under Branch McCracken. Yes, but what is that compared to what Knight did? 12 of the 19 conference titles, 24 of the 36 tourney appearences, 662 wins. I mean, he IS his own program for alot of schools. Man I need to read Season on the brink again.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) I quite liked Vitale last night. But only because he didn't go on his standard rant #31 about the breakup between IU and Robert Montgomery Knight and how they should name the basketball arena after him. He Dick, if Bobby wants to come back, that's on him. Olive branches have been extended and until the other night in Brooklyn, he has refused to even mention IU, let alone talk about them. It's on him at this point. It's on him, but you have to understand that IU is IU because of Bobby Knight. Look at his accomplishments vs what the school has done overall. He should have never been treated the way he was. I'm sure a man of his temper and arrogance (not trying to be negative on him I LOVE Bobby knight) has a hard time giving up the frustration at IU.
  4. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Isn't Thomas about the same size as Reggie Bullock, or am I just way off? That's who Oladipo guarded last night. It would be either Oladipo or Sheehey, most certainly. He's 6'7" but plays in the post alot, probably will lead the team in boards. I would say he plays the 4 mostly as we run Craft/Smith/Ross or Thompson as guards.
  5. Getting down to the wire in my elimination league. Picked the Bears at home vs Sea.
  6. Bill O'Brien takes a PSU team with 30 seniors and drives them to the exact same regular season record as last season. Urban takes the worst OSU team in 100 years and makes them undefeated. Obviously O'Brien is Coach of the Year in the conference. 33 years and counting since the last OSU coach won the award.
  7. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Undefeated? I'll admit it's crossed my mind, but I can't see it. It ain't gonna happen, though I'd probably dance naked somewhere if it did. As you said, the Big Ten is way too good. I think the biggest obstacle for IU will be a team with length that has depth inside. Of course, a hot shooting team that is patient can provide problems for any team. I've seen us come close, but undoubtedly somewhere on the road like in Madison you trip up. Or with Illinois against Matt Sylvester. It all comes down to getting a top seed and getting hot anyway, turns out nobody remembers conference titles or records.
  8. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) Did you not watch the game last night? Maryland put up 49 in the second half and Indiana is a hell of a lot better. Seriously, you sure you're not a closet NU fan? Even I have my doubts after they struggled through the last few games. As for the other stuff, IU is the best right now because just about every other team with talent is losing. Their offense is awesome, the jury is still out on the D. It's REALLY early to crown Michigan as a legit team, especially considering they let NC State shoot 57% from the floor last night. They're not a great defensive team, they go with one big most of the time, and they're only about 6 deep with quality players, 3 of which are freshman that'll likely have some rough games. LOL. I've just seen NW do this to my teams over the last few years, just SLOOOOOWWWW it way down against conference foes and make us hit a last min shot to win it.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) They could be, although I'm not sure last night was the game to tell us. UNC is flat out bad. I think as of now they have to be the most complete team in the country. 3 point shooting, inside/outside, midrange, and some good ballhandling. We havent yet seen how another good team that plays defense will attack them however and there will always be some close calls in conference. Its very hard to get through the season undefeated.
  10. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) I actually think tOSU is a pretty bad matchup for IU. Especially if Craft as allowed to play physical defense like he usually does. He could be a nightmare for a much smaller and inexperienced Ferrell. I'm also curious as to who will guard Thomas. Watford seems too soft. Should be a really good game though. I assumed Sheehey+others. Our guards match up well defensively, however if you shut Thomas down we are done.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) IU can be beaten on a given night. Most likely it will take a team just raining down threes with good ball movement. Its either that or a team that runs 30 seconds off of the shot clock on a regular basis and doesn't allow Indiana to get a real offensive rhythm. You'll see NW make them win a 40 point game possibly. However I dont think any of that is going to happen at Assembly Hall, they feed off that crowd too much. I was extremely jealous of that crowd last night, I just wanted to be there. The Buckeye bball fans tend to sit on their hands too much, they should all take a field trip to an IU game.
  12. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) I think it's a bit too early to proclaim that. They have only played one decent team and the game went to overtime. Offensively they are pretty sick, although they still struggle with entry passes to Zeller on occasion. I'm just not sold on them being a national championship team until they prove they can actually defend well. They remind me of UNC teams of years past that eventually got bounced because of defense. The two Roy Williams teams that actually won the national championship had veteran point guards, veteran big men (May and Killer-T although Zeller is almost as good as them) and a ton of NBA talent filling out the roster overall. It doesn't look like IU will be really tested again until B1G play (Butler lost by double digits to Illinois on a neutral court, although I guess it could be tricky). They'll be number 1 for a while, but I'm still not completely sold. It all comes down to tourney time and what happens when things dont go your way. Undefeated or 1 or 2 loss teams have gone down because their big man got into foul trouble and the shooters went cold. I've seen it happen to my team. It will be interesting to see these Big Ten teams match up with each other. Each kind of has their own thing going that they do well and all of the top teams UM, OSU, IU have dynamic PG's.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) That is about as complete of a college basketball team as I have seen in a while. They get out and run when they get the chance. If that doesn't work they have a post up game, slashers, and shooters to take apart a team in the half court, plus the patience to make the right play. The crazy thing is they still have two big guys to get back. You havent watched OSU the last few years?? JK. They are very good, the only chance someone has is to get them on the road, I dont see anyone touching them in bloomington. Also I do think Duke is a better matchup for IU, I just dont see us winning tonight this early in the season unless Thomas just goes off.
  14. Alright Big Ten, nut up so we can get some good tourney seed respect here.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) That's why I don't think the odds are great. There are many better programs out there than Illinois. Yeah, but alot harder conferences to win in than the Big Ten.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) It's a no-brainer, offer him up a blank check Mike Thomas! The question is, what are the odds Tressel accepts? Not great, but he's apparently listening to other offers right now so maybe.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) If the water's heated it takes maybe 10 seconds. The one-cup part is the sole reason my wife wanted one. I don't drink coffee, so it'd always be a waste for her to make a whole pot. Yup. It also makes teas and stuff too, I have a hot chocolate k cup that rules.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) For a school like Illinois, that is totally worth it. Otherwise it is try to pick another mid-major guy and hope you don't end up with the next Beckham. Thats all the school gets penalty-wise. Progress reports every 6 months and 5 game suspension of the head coach. He can still recruit, assemble a staff and do pretty much what every head coach does. Its not like Pearl where he was done recruiting for 3 years.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) Yes he did, and it's effective until December 2016. He has a 5 game suspension if he's hired. Oh yeah and the "bowl game" if they make it.
  20. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) 4 hours is round-trip. About 90 miles each way. On the way in I can cover the first 60 miles in about an hour. It's the last 30 miles that takes me an hour or more depending on traffic. You have to move or work from home. There are some heath risks you are taking by being in the car that much. Your stress level must be off the charts.

  22. Big Ten coaches prove once again they are either mad or have no eye for talent.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Thing is, if Alabama goes out and destroys UGa, then the line will likely be even higher for Alabama heading into the NC game. I definitely can't see anyone beating this ND squad by more than 13 points or so based on their defense. It would take a total failure of their offense and many more plays run by the opposition. It COULD happen, but unlikely unless the matchup is just bad for ND.
