Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
RockRaines replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) I don't see many people being upset, let alone vitriol towards him. And $14 million isn't anywhere near market value? Only if you believe 14 is equal to 40. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Does anyone with an Apple computer also have DirecTV's Whole Home DVR service? The technician is telling me it you cannot have Whole Home DVR service with an Apple computer running on your wireless network, which sounds ridiculous. LOL, there is no way thats true.

Happy bday to my Mom!!! easy one to remember.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) It's about time they start stepping up the penalty for white-collar crimes. Unfortunately, he'll probably serve less than half and in a villa. On the news they said he would serve about 80 percent of his sentence. And yes he will probably serve it in that wisconsin prison camp.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) As was just stated, the Sox offered him a one-year deal for $14 million. Seems pretty nice to a guy who contemplates retirement each season. It was arbitration. -
Kinda harsh IMO, but I guess they are sending a message. Its depressing that there are actually violent criminals out there that get less time.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) This is the most depressing post I've ever seen because it'sfrom Rock. This. I'll always love Mark Buehrle, but I will despise the sight of him for a few years. Mark Buehrle loves the White Sox, and made it clear thats where he wanted to play. The White Sox decided he wasnt in their plans. I dont know how I can hate a guy for actually going somewhere where he is wanted and valued. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) And allow me to clarify. I won't be angry when he signs elsewhere (unless it's the Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs, which is true for any player). But he WILL be a hypocrite. Unless he retires or takes a free non-existent contract close to home. -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) I find it hard to believe that the Sox haven't at least said, "Here's our best offer...we can't do anything else." I would imagine that might have been done a while back, too. Maybe the Sox, KC, and other teams in the midwest haven't made offers, but that surprises me. They offered him 1 year 14 million or whatever the number was. I think it became clear as of yesterday that he's out of their plans, so no offers. Personally I was hoping St Louis would jump in with any offer so he could go there and retire happy instead of being forced to move somewhere else. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) But if the man takes the biggest contract (going against his statements of having enough money) for the most years (going against his wishes to retire early) in a city much further away (going against his desires to be close to his home), then the man is a hypocrite. Lot of fluff there outside of this. Once again, where are the offers close to home? FYI, he cant take something ridiculously low because he is part of a union. Can he take something under market value to stay close to home? Probably. Are there offers out there from those teams? Nope. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) And I'm sure that's because he's driving up his market value. If he were to go to a team and say, "I'll play here for this much", I'm sure they'd do it immediately. I'm just coming up with a scenario where he could be true to his word over many years. I don't have to stretch to make Buehrle out as a hypocrite. He's done that himself in spades. How exactly? Please post his words and we will cross check that with what is happening in the market right now. I know for a FACT that Mark's agent was told initially that the Sox wanted to bring him back and would try to match any offer. He then went out on the market, got 5 offers from teams and the one team he wants to play for balked and told him to kick rocks and there will be no offer. Is it your belief that he should have come back to the Sox and offered to play for free? -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) And it may yet happen, but I'm sure a team like KC would sign him on the spot if he'd play for like $10 million a season. And he'd have to be fine with it, as money is no object to him, it'd allow him to be close to home, etc. But he's looking for the biggest contract (or slightly below that for possibly two teams) no matter where he has to play. Did they give him an offer yet? I know you are stretching the best you can to make him look like a hypocrite but so far the Sox, St Louis and KC havent offered him dick. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) I'm sure the Royals would take him, but probably not for the offers he's receiving from bigger markets. I'm guessing any team would take him for way below market value. All it takes is for the White Sox or St Louis or any of the teams to give him something close to market value and he's theirs. Obviously that hasnt happened yet, so he hasnt had the chance to take those offers that dont exist. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) Mark Buehrle has mentioned retiring about 10 times a year for the last 5 years. If neither one of his top teams can sign him, then he can retire and make his dream come true at last. If he decides that he wants to continue playing, he can find a team as close to St. Louis as possible that will offer him a fair salary, as he's stated that being close to home and spending time with his family is of the utmost importance to him, and I'm fairly sure he's mentioned that he's made more money than he'll ever need. Those things make him a hypocrite. And while this stuff happens every year in baseball (guys signing anywhere as long as the price is right), the vast majority of those players don't go out of their way to harp on the issues that Buehrle repeatedly does. Yes, but clearly that hasnt happened as of yet. -
Watching him tell his dad he made the team was one of the best tv moments of all time for me.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) I like getting Molina back, I think he can profile as a right handed MB down the road. I do think they should have added another guy like Moises Sierra who is eligible for the Rule V draft anyway. Except he has totally different stuff than Mark and throws much harder.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Well... anyone but Detroit. Gio is a beauty. Personal favorite prospect of mine not named Jeremy Reed when he was here. Would hate to have to root against him. Oh and p.s. Rock.. bucket also has his "source(s)" bro. Huh? What does this have to do with me?

At what point all along did we think the Sox were going to "match" Mark's highest offer? I think we were all on the same page knowing that if he was going to stay it would be a bit of a discount over what was out there in the market. Basically no new news. Second, KW has to move salary to bring Mark back, its pretty clear at this point that he hasnt been able to do that whatsoever due to the offers he's receiving. -

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Maybe the Sox shouldn't have hired a mental midget then... Sorry that's a cop out answer as to why he answered like that. Not sure how my answer pointed to him being a mental midget. -
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Who are our 4 legit closer candidates? I only see one for 2012 and it Sale. He is 12 out of 14 in his career. Sale has great stuff. Maybe more effective as a closer than a starter. Sale has the stuff of a starter as well. Addison Reed closed for us in the minors, check out his stats. Jesse Crain could close and theoretically the staff thought Thornton could close, Frasor has closing experience. Out of those, Addison Reed is the best bet and was the "closer in waiting".

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) I hope so because Dunn should never play in the OF. But that's not what is being reported. He said that while getting barraged by questions at WINTER meetings. I dont think there is much to it. Maybe Adam will run a few more laps since he heard it though. -
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Sale could close. Would management flip flop on this again and make Sale the closer? If we keep Danks then the rotation could be Danks/Floyd/Peavy/Humber/Stewart and maybe Molina could be put on the fast track to get some major league starts in 2012 and then fill Peavy's rotation spot in 2013???? Its better for the team if Sale starts and you use 1 of 4 legit closer candidates as your closer. Addison Reed is probably the favorite moving forward. He has VERY good stuff.

Those WAR stats are a bit skewed because it takes into account his play in the OF. I would guess RV is going to play him at 1B more to help rest Paulie. -
