  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) Not many players start 40 games in college. Cam Newton started 1 season, Tyron Smith (top ol taken) started 20 games, Solder/Pouncey both started 3 years. Its pretty unusual to have a 4 year starter, especially at a school that has produced many quality lineman. Last year Bill Nagy (who didnt even start for Wisconsin) was drafted by the Cowboys and started for them this year until his injury. Not many O lineman start that many games, and the ones that do are usually high picks, Mike Brewster comes to mind.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) Carimi still has work to do especially in the pass blocking dept. Webb isn't going anywhere, don't get your hopes up. He's very good for a rookie. The Wisconsin O-line from last season put 3 starters into the NFL and Carimi was the best of them. He's no worse than Jake Long who has been manning the tackle position for years. I think he is going to be a dominant RT and a very good LT if moved over there.
  3. Gordo would benefit from that school of hitting though. Line drives should be his game.
  4. Hawks had a home game during ALDS game 2 in 2005 Ah, same city, nope cant think of one.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) I think people forget that the cubs are paying about $35M in debt servicing. The attendance took a big hit last year. They are going to try and sell he fans on the wonder twins (Theo and Jed) and Starlin....the rest of the cast, who knows. Also if Sandberg is told the Phillie job his his when Manuel leaves you do not think he will take it? The hired Theo in part to develop from within to save money. I just dont see it.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Theo is loved now by the Cubs fans, and they'll love him more when he names Sandberg the manager in a week. If he goes on to sign Pujols or Prince when free agency starts...say goodbye to any casual Chicago fan being interested in the Sox. It's pathetic, yet true. There is no way Ricketts can support a 100+ million dollar contract for a free agent like that.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) It's also significantly risky to be seen as "Meddling" with that stadium in the eyes of its fanbase... Putting even a jumbotron in Wrigley would have a negative reaction. Fans were pissed (literally) when they talked about removing the troughs.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Worst day of the year in Chicago is New Year's eve, by far.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Yeah, in a passing offense that features Sam Hurd, Johnny Knox, Devin Hester and Roy Williams, some of the time. How could he not? If you look at the options Jay has had, and then consider the amount of times he has dropped back to pass, it's not hard to realize why DS has had the receptions he's had. He's had way too many drops and mistakes IMO. For an undrafted rookie free agent he hasnt been bad. I will say the drops are unusual for him, he was as surehanded as it gets in college, especially when catching the ducks thrown by Pryor.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) The same song and dance also happened for Hendry and McPhail. Yes. Theo will have less impact on the team's results in the next 3 years than Fielder, Pujols etc. Thats why I think the hype is funny, its just like the Lebron saga but without the decision....wait, I think they almost did that too.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) But you clearly do care, as you posted about caring in the post I quoted. It's all good, but you clearly cannot look at the Cubs without that inner Cubs rage flowing. LOL, says the guy repeatedly posting in a Cubs thread on a Sox board.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Is another part of his policy to project which underachieving players out there could excel if pumped with steroids? I heard their first signing is Bill Mueller
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) I'd much rather have Bennett in there then Sanzenbacher though...Sanzenbacher is nothing special...he just happens to be on a WR core that has nothing special on it either. He leads the team in TD receptions and is tied for second in total reception for WR's. He's not exactly dog food. Bennett is obviously missed and Dane should be taking a seat, but I would rather have him there in the slot and put EB on the outside instead of Devin drops alot.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Caring about the stupidity of Cubs fans should have left your complex with your teenage years. There are idiot Cubs fans, there are idiot Sox fans, there are idiot ballet fans. Choosing to listen and/or care about their opinion is where your complex lies. There are smart Cubs fans who know this isn't an overnight thing. However, going from Hendry to Theo can't be anything but good, only because it proves the Cubs and Ricketts will absolutely spend to try to win in the future. Blah blah blah. I sleep next to a Cubs fan every night dude, I dont care. Second, I think bringing in Theo proves they are trying to build it from within cheaply WITHOUT spending money like they have historically done. This will take years and years to develop and I honestly think he wears out his welcome before it bears any fruit. You apparently have forgotten that they did this same thing previously with a GM who has history of winning from the ground up and then replaced him with a GM who spent money like it was an ATM machine.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Yeah, Rock definitely has a Cubs complex. I think the pure stupidity of Cubs fans is ridiculous in this situation.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) They carried the 45 minute conference call live the day he got hired. The official press conference for the photo-op was about 15 minutes, and the Bears played the night before. It really was no big deal. And to be fair, the Sox werent billing Ventura as the Jesus of managers to lead us to the promised land like Theo is.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) They could absolutely do what the Red Sox did with Fenway to bring it to the 21st century. Maybe, Wrigley is in much worse shape on a very small parcel of land though. They've resigned to just building s*** around it for the most part which is not that great of an idea compared to trying to gut certain areas of the park. If I was them, I would first concentrate on modernizing areas like food service (almost all stands failed inspections), clubhouses and then amenities like bathrooms, ramps, seats etc.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Picking up his option or bringing him back? The guy is from Chicago and might be willing to accept a more reasonable deal to stick around. I don't how we can afford to pay our third or fourth reliever from the right side $3.75 million when we are looking to cut salary. If they do pick up that option, it's clear as day Thornton won't be returning and we'll be going the cheap, in-house route to replace him. I'm fine with that if you can get a nice return for him and you think Santiago or Leesman can be an adequate replacement. CL: Santos SU: Crain SU: Reed MR: Frasor MR: Ohman MR: Leesman/Santiago LR: Axelrod I could live with that bullpen next year as long as Ohman is used properly (i.e. loogy) and not forced into Thornton's role. Bringing him back. I heard there is mutual interest. If they can do 3.75 for 2 years I would do it if I was him.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) Luckily I am going to a wedding Saturday night, so I didn't have to get a costume this year. Hate Halloween. Me too, Alot. I go out of town with my gf every halloween so we dont have to partake in anyone's parties ETC. Same with New Years. Those days in downtown Chicago are just awful.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) The Cubs cannot get a new ballpark. They could build the worlds nicest ballpark and they'd lose 1/3 of their regular ticket buyers. Maybe more. That's the quickest possible way for them to turn into the White Sox; lose their biggest asset. Well they cant tear down wrigley, so they would have to build it somewhere else. Immediately they lose ALL of their tourist fan base.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) It could be tough for him @ Philly on a Monday night for his first game back, he only has about 6 NFL quarters played under his belt. Still better than Louis and Omiyale
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) He made $3.5 million last year. The very lowest he could get is $2.8 million. I don't know that I have ever seen that happen. Even if he just gets what he got last year, the Sox aren't the type of team to go through arbitration for that small of a difference (250k) If he is coming back the Sox are picking up his option. If they don't pick it up, they aren't offering arbitration. I'm pretty sure they are picking him up.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 08:06 AM) That is the key with any of these agencies - just be upfront about it. You'd be surprised what they are willing to look past... but if you lie about it and they get even a whiff of that possibility, you are done. Ok, thanks for the advice. I still have to make it past my M&G first.
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) I realize Frasor sucked but his historical pedigree says that $3.75 M for him is worth it, especially now we'll be an arm short in the pen with Sale going to the rotation next year. I'd be shocked if they didn't pick that up, actually... Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was KW's plan. He basically replaces Tony Pena
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) 10 years? The only agency I know of that goes that far back with drug history requirements is DEA. FBI was more lenient. Let's just say, I had to document some things from college too... I was 5 years out of college at the time I started the process, and it was a non-issue. They told me that was the policy. I am hoping that you just have to document what you did and then moving forward stay clean regardless.
