  1. AJ is definitely on the block this offseason. I mentioned it before. It makes alot of sense.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) Very underwhelming choices to say the very least. The hitting coaches mentioned not much better. The loyalty factor of this organization is a death nail. The hitting coaches are great ideas IMO. Laker has done great work with the young hitters that are now on the MLB roster.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) And if you don't, I'm sure you will come up with plenty of excuses. What excuses exactly? This is the worst OSU team in 10 years, they play more freshman than I've ever seen. I said earlier 8 or 9 wins would have been a great year.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Miller just got hurt for OSU, if he can't come back then suddenly NU has life because Bauserman is an absolute joke. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Wow, Nebraska comes back to tie it. Huge chokejob by OSU (albeit one aided by having to bring in one of the worst QBs in college football). Hit the nail on the head there. 12 true freshman and the best one was out of the game. Shows you how terrible Nebraska is (last conf title in 1999). OSU is down for this year so I think ILL gets a BCS bowl and has the best chance to beat Wisco. We we still beat Michigan though... Can wait for bball
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) I know that's what he insinuated, but it was more like a "every manager has to go at some point." Completely PC. He's never going to call someone out, especially his new manager, even if it were Satan himself. He probably wouldnt give specific examples of why Satan would be a good manager either.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Paul Konerko didn't even say anything negative about Ozzie after he was gone. When Ozzie lovers tried to use that a defense, they were quickly and correctly shouted down by people saying that Konerko would never say anything negative. Now, the tables are turned and people are using it like it's going to mean something? If you think that was him spewing the company line then thats your opinion. He didnt have to get that detailed if he was just supporting the organization. It was a pretty glowing opinion of Robin and not the only one.
  7. Not sure if this was posted yet, but Paul Konerko pretty much silences the doubters. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_cws
  8. Holding players accountable and making them act more professional while supporting their teammates is already a good start. It used to piss me off when you'd see the dugout empty because the guys would be watching tv in the clubhouse or video in the room behind the dugout.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Let me ask you this...if we come up with several people in the "baseball industry" who are shocked/stunned by this hire and openly question it, would that mean that you'd have to judge it as a bad hire? If someone who played with Robin comes out and says he'll be a terrible manager, sure. Find it.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) "as a journalist, my job is to tell the truth"... then went on to say since he was "cut off" from one side, he told the "truth" from the other side. He shoudl just say he's Ozzies b**** boy and get it over with. All of his peers hate him because of his crap and now finally the small number of readers are seeing the truth.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I give up. You should. Your only argument is that the guy hasnt managed and so he hasnt done manager type things as a manager. You know what, there are plenty of better options out there then with your criteria, I bet Jerry Manuel would like a job again. Was Bob Brenly a better option? I am sick and tired of failed manager retreads, this hire was outside the box yet people actually in the baseball industry are saying it was a good hire. I bet fans on a message board have alot more exposure to Robin's history and demeanor than those people.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) During those 2000 games was he ever asked to discipline a trouble maker? Was he asked to yank a player for dogging it? Has he ever pulled a pitcher that wanted to stay in the game? Has he ever dealt with an under-performing starter with an up and coming bench player in their shadow? Yes, he probably chewed out a players while in a clubhouse in his career a few times, in fact one instance he did it to Big Frank. All of those situations you listed he has been through at the major league level.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Did he have to create workout routines for spring training? Decide how many at bats/innings the player who struggled last year needs to get? Decide when to cut and run on a struggling guy versus giving him another shot? Workout routines??? Ya, I bet managers really draw those up not the team of qualified trainers. I'm sure he had thoughts on all of those other points when he was a veteran player but it wasnt his role to actually carry it out. And cutting a player is the GM's call FYI.
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Regardless of what one thinks about Cowley, it's still on the FO to prevent dysfunction like what we apparently had. If prevention is out then we're faced with 'cleanup'. Here's to another try at it. According to "sources" on one side was Ozzie and his family, on the other side was the entire White Sox organization including a 20+ year pitching coach, the GM, the owner, the Minor League Director and so on. To get rid of dysfunction you have to eliminate one side, and they did.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) It's unfortunate the other half is still here making "bold" decisions hiring gutty guys like Ventura with no experience nor idea how to handle a Major League ballclub. I want to know that how, in your opinion, does Ventura not know how to handle a big league club after playing 2,000 games in a big league clubhouse? Is there some magic that happens once you move into a minor league manager's office that we dont know about? Does coaching 3rd base like "Wavin Wendel" give you some ridiculous insight into the psyche of major league ballplayers?
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I think this fan base is different than most. We love our nostalgia and bringing back former players. And you mention Konerko, but aren't they two extremely similar people? Why would you say they are similar? Everyone who has commented on this that knows Robin are saying he was easily the most respected player on the teams he was on. Even Joey (Ozzies Buttplug) Cora came out and said he was more respected in the locker room. Managing a team of players who have vets who dont really need much managing and players that already respect the guy since he's been around with them the last few years shouldnt be that hard. I love this hire, much more than if it was TLR or Sandy.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) I think he may be fine down the road, but he's got no experience whatsoever. And either way, contending or rebuilding, there are guys better suited to it than he was. As examples, Dave Martinez has been working with young guys for years, so he would have been much more suitable to a rebuilding team. Tony La Russa is a guy that you would bring in if you were thinking of competing right out of the gate because of his vast amount of experience with competitive, veteran teams. They didn't even bother to interview any of the other candidates, opting instead for the good PR that would come with a respected fan favorite. Better PR would have been a coach who won a WS like TLA or Francona. Robin has years of playing and leadership experience in an MLB clubhouse. Its not that difficult to move from that to managing a clubhouse. They arent calling plays or inventing some new sort of baseball, he is leading a team that already has a player/coach in Konerko and several young kids that respect him from their offseasons and ST working with him.
  18. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) When I say clean house, I mean Gene Smith and the whole damned compliance department. They can't blame all this on Tressel and someone within the school has to be responsible. The compliance dept were the ones who found these new violations. Gene Smith I agree on. And the only thing they blamed on Tressel was that he covered up those emails, which was true. Other than that you have some players being handed money (like Troy Smith was and got suspended) and jobs the NCAA deemed were completed at too high a rate. None of those have been blamed on Tressel. And so far for violations you have a few members of the football team with their hands out to boosters. You then has thousands of other athletes that havent had a single issue reported. You have a top 3 ranked bball team with arguably one of the most famous players in recent OSU history and they havent had any issues. And to put it even more in perspective, these players going to charity events in Ohio would be like D Rose, Julius Peppers, Patrick Kane etc going to charity events in Chicago. People pay thousands of dollars just to sit at their tables. These kids by NCAA law are required to get to the event by their own means and not take anything for free including a door prize or giveaway.
  19. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) AGREED. Initially, I thought the hire was a decent move. After the first 2 minutes of Robin's portion of the call I thought "Oh... wait a sec...." Because of a conference call??? Hilarious. Robin is going to be a much better leader than many of you think.
  20. Love it hard. I think people complaining don't know s*** about Robin.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Coming from a guy who wants to trade every single player on the 40 man roster so our 2016 team is legit It wouldnt be because then those prospects will be at their peak value and you would want to then trade them for 2020
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) On a laptop. Graphical interface. Still got ya.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) To each his own. You are in a solid minority of people who didn't enjoy. Go listen to Pearl Jam and root for the Mariners already. First of all Pearl Jam is awesome. Second, Up all night is pretty good, not great, but good. I liken it to the New Girl at this point, good parts but not quite all there yet.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) Cutler Mic'd up during the Panthers game. I thought all he did was pout??
