  1. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) I just don't see the point. I don't see his trade value at the beginning of the season coming off an injured shoulder being vastly different than if he produces and gets traded at the deadline if we still suck. We already missed out his peak value last deadline, so why not ride it out, hope he has a monster 1st half and either: we're in the race, or we suck and we can dump him to someone truly desperate. Because we have a cheaper replacement that he would be stealing playing time from and Q+Thornton may = Buehrle.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) Trickling in? As in there is more yet? At what point is OSU going to realize they need to clean house and just Tressel is not enough?? They are going to clean house as far as coaches go at the end of the season, although I could see Fickell, Heacock and maybe Vrabel staying on. Its not that they're the problem though, its the lack of policing around boosters and kids from ages 18-21. Its a systemic problem at every school that right now is getting attention because pretty much everyone would like to see OSU get caught for something. The boosters in columbus need to know from the new head coach that this s*** wont be tolerated and then the coach needs to throw kids off the team that violate said rules.
  3. The funny part about "Apple Haters" trying to be different because Apple has become mainstream is thats exactly where Apple started, trying to move people away from the same old blah mainstream.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) I might pay the $7 mil or so in arbitration he'd get...but if I'm paying that you're not getting my top prospect. Or even a good one. If he performed exactly as he did last year, in the fangraphs world, he'd generate $11 million worth of WAR. I'd be paying $7 million for that, and probably wind up with a sandwich pick out of it assuming the rules don't change with this CBA (Which they're likely to do anyway). But he's shown no sign of the 2008 dominance since that year, and the last 2 years he was a negative value player...so I'm gambling $7 million on a guy who for 2 of the last 3 seasons has been almost useless. The only way you're getting me as a GM to give up a legit player for him is to pay some of the salary yourself so that I don't have to risk paying him to be on the DL. Yeah, but your opinion is extremely skewed. Teams were willing to part with very good talent for him at the deadline and they will again in the offseason. You just posted why when you went to WAR. Not every team has an up and coming power righthanded bat to just plug into the OF like we do. If you dont believe me, check out what Jayson Werth got last offseason. Quentin is 3 years younger.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) I'll never forget where I was when I heard Steve Jobs died. I was sitting on my Windows computer listening to my Zune HD. He influenced my life in so many ways. Mouse-check Windows-Check Yup, he did.
  6. Death of a legend who helped revolutionize the personal computer and entertainment in so many ways. RIP.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) The reason we shouldn't be so quick to want Thornton traded. Ohman is a situational lefty and Matt can go two innings at least. Possibly Santiago can replace Sale, if in fact Sale can cut it as a starter. Lots on unanswered questions at this point obviously $$$$$$$$$$=Thornton is gone.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) ...as defined by CBS CHICAGO. Here's a less-biased power ranking from TSN. I bet you think you know where I'm going with this... but you don't! Surprise! TSN has the Hawks ranked SECOND! SI had us #1 in the West but also out in the first round because they thought Crawford would tank.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Not meaning to flame at all, but do the Rays losing to the same team two years in a row and getting faceplanted AT HOME by Texas change anybody's opinion of Maddon and/or Martinez? Texas is good, but what's up with getting smoked at home like that two years in a row? I don't think that woulda played well if it had been the Sox in the playoffs losing to the same team two years in a row and getting eliminated at the Cell. I realize Maddon/Martinez did a nice job rallying past Boston, but quick exits in the playoffs are not ideal. 42 million dollar pay roll.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Sometimes the most baffling changes in performance can be fixed by unplugging, counting to 10, and the plugging back in... Im sure most people in this thread are also "tech support" for their families and friends like I am, and I always tell them before you even call me unplug and plug the thing back in and see what happens.
  11. That Kane line is going to be deadly. Bank on it.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) shes hot yet, and ill grant him that. is it stylish? maybe. ill even grant you that. But it just looks so forced when its on cutler. There are some people who can pull off a look like that, and it works for them. There are some who you see like that and you just want to punch in the face. Cutler falls into the latter category for me. Hes just a dude with an enormous ego, and he irritates the hell out of me, even though I should have every reason to love the guy Where do you get that from? By all accounts when people in his life have been interviewed they've said he's a really good down to earth guy. I met him a few weeks ago at a bar and he was as nice as can be.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) I really think you are trying too hard to make population equate to passion. Indiana is sooooo crazy!!!!!!! I admit it, the passion, its like Aaron Rowand on double steroids.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) Rock, I know this has been tough but I want to ask you one question. I won't ask for any details unless you want to give them. But awhile ago, after Tressel was let go I believe, you indicated there was more to come that you knew about. Did the stuff you were referring to ever come out? I guess I got the sense it was something big, but at this point nothing major has come out since that time, unless I am forgetting something. Its trickling out as we speak, however the NCAA has decided they can determine a workable wage for all players regardless of market or job title. Mostly because they couldnt get any info on the booster himself.
  15. Wow, so Victory, Marty and Greg are all on the same page. Shocker
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) That also has nothing to do with expectations for IU or how important basketball is in Indiana. Ok whatever, Indiana is the craziest basketball place on the planet, nowhere even comes close, blah blah blah.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Size has nothing to do with craze. Hell in Indiana it is the opposite, most of those towns there is literally nothing else to do on a Friday night but take in basketball. A couple of the towns I broadcast in could have crowds for basketball games that were 2-3 times their population. That is crazy. Thats also true in Texas. But instead of a bunch of towns, its hundreds and hundreds of towns outside of large cities. If you think Indiana is desolate in some parts (it is) try going to West Texas. Its not comparable IMO. I'd put Indiana bball more on par with football in Ohio.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) Except for the word "Size", don't all of those apply to Basketball in Indiana? Would Indiana be one of the top 3 talent markets in the country for bball?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) Why does that matter as to the expectations of basketball at IU? It has to do with the comparison you made. Football in Texas is way crazier than bball in Indiana particularly because of the size and competition level in the state as well as the deep bucket of talent.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 08:43 AM) And the reality is that basketball is to Indiana as to football is to Texas. Nothing else really matters, and IU is the manifestation of that viewpoint. Except Texas is ridiculously larger than Indiana in both size and population.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) If we re-signed Buerhle and dumped BOTH Danks and Floyd, we'd still have a shot at winning the division. If the big contracts rebound, it's more than enough. If they don't, we're going to lose anyway. I say dump the valuable pieces for desperately needed prospects. Thats what they are doing. Teams dont need to "rebuild" especially when they actually have some decent already long term signed and (expensive)talent. They are dumping: Quentin Thornton Danks Floyd Pierre Castro Omar You are going to get young talent in return for Thornton, Danks, Floyd and Quentin, and you are injecting players from your system into starting roles.
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Floyd/Humber/Danks/Peavy/Sale doesn't leave room for Buehrle Thats because its: Buehrle Peavy Sale Humber Axelrod/Stewart
  23. Stop drinking, stop drinking stop drinking. Thats about it. Keep the cardio and core work up and stop drinking and eating like s***. Its f***ing hard.
