  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) So that gives Buehle/Floyd/Peavy/Sale/Humber as the starters? Danks goes, and no spots for Axelrod or Stewart, except maybe the pen? I posted in the other thread, I think they deal both and put Stewart or Axelrod in the other spot. Our pen actually fills out nicely still.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) Just because you keep repeating it, doesn't make it true, especially in the case of Santos. Santos is an incredible value even if not a closer, just in the pen. He made less than 500k this year and ranked 8th in saves in only his second MLB season and first as a closer.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) That means they have to either deal two starters, or keep Sale in the pen. Which one one do you see happening? Sale is starting no matter what.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) Can't keep Ramirez and Santos in a rebuild. Yes, a cheap closer and a very good SS is an awful thing to have....
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Just because a GM made an utterly horrible mistake in trading for Edwin Jackson doesn't mean that the other 29 will make the same mistake. Zach Stewart was on Keith Law's prospect lists, but now where else, and he really belonged at AAA for the 2nd half of this year if you were truly 100% focused on developing him. And frankly, if I'm another GM, I want no part of Carlos Quentin. I'm not paying him $8 million or so in arbitration for 1/2 of a season of an .850 OPS if I'm lucky. Yes, but thats you. Look what Edwin got from the Cards (although he still sucked). I'm telling you right now Quentin with only 2 team bidding on him before the deadline was commanding some serious names, better than you think. It will be even better with more teams in the mix.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Cowley actually went to FL for the presser. His article in the ST today was a disgrace, its a good thing Morrissey is on the other page and can actually write.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) If you want pretty damn good players, you're not getting them MLB ready. D1 had a terrible, injury-shortened season and is a FA in a year. Quentin had an injury shortened season again and couldn't come back at the end of the year at all, and for all I know as an opposing GM might have plenty of lingering effects next year. Floyd had his worst season since 2007 and has had his ERA slowly getting worse the last 3 years, although he does have 2 years before he's a FA so that counts for something. I'm not giving up a top 50 prospect for any of them unless that top 50 prospect is 2 years away from my roster. I'm just not. I expect to get a package better than Edwin Jackson commanded, so top 100 prospects are definitely in play if not top 50 for someone like Danks. Quentin is going to be an interesting bat on the market especially after Pujols and Fielder sign.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) I think we'll get some pretty damn good players for Danks, Floyd and Quentin Even if we dont deal all of them, we KNOW for a fact Quentin and Thornton are gone, and most likely at least one of Floyd or Danks. That right there should bring us either projectable prospects or some mlb talent. We just dont know what they are yet.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Rock, you think Buehrle returns and AJ leaves? Yes to both.
  10. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) Did we not get any Major League-ready talent in exchange for Danks, Floyd, and Quentin, whom you've presumably traded in this vision you've presented? Yes, but I cant predict who those guys are. If they are mlb ready then some of those guys I mentioned may or may not go to the bench.
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) I would add Morel to that hopeful list. You have several low cost alternatives stepping in for more expensive players Santiago-Thornton Viciedo-Quentin De Aza-Pierre Sale-Danks Stewart/Axelrod-Floyd Flowers-Hopefully AJ, at least Castro
  12. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I wish they would keep MB, but don't see that happening I do 100%
  13. The lineup I somewhat expect to see: 1. De Aza LF 2. Alexei SS 3. Dunn DH (ugh) 4. Konerko 1B 5. Viciedo RF 6. Flowers C 7.Rios CF 8. Morel 3B 9. Beckham 2B Pitching Buehrle Peavy Sale Humber Axelrod/Stewart Pen Ohman Stewart/Axelrod Reed Santiago Frasor Santos Crain
  14. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) It's a complete rebuilding phase while paying out Dunn and Rios and using Paulie as the fan draw ... Manager not going to mean much for the next few years Bringing back Mark Buehrle is going to be your fan draw while they unload other players like Floyd, Quentin, Danks, etc.
  15. FWIW Manny Acta also uses Saber and has for many years, since he was with expos.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) Ah, that did not cross my mind. I'm actually very swayed by that piece of information. I'm on board now. He and several other GM's have very positive things to say about him.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) I'm concerned that Sandy isn't going to be very demonstrative in interviews and to be brutally honest, he's not a box office draw. No matter who they hire they arent going to draw much after this season. I am cancelling after 9 years and I am sure more are on that boat.
  18. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) Let me clarify myself. ozzeroo is making himself look bad but I think the media is actually letting him off the hook and he could be portrayed much worse especially with the fact he is not getting all that much more coin in Florida. He's getting 8 million more in fla, how is that not much more?
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) I bet he is traded for Zambrano. Wow, thats a pretty good possibility.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) Just invite over Soxtalk to be your wing man. Seriously though, with a decent sized group of people, that's just fine. I'm in whats the address.

    2011 TV Thread

Wow, how I didnt watch Blue Mountain State before is ridiculous
  22. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) Not the mid 80's anymore. He can pass, I'm aware, but his defense is awful, he's too soft to play the middle of the ice, and he won't win faceoffs. It won't last, so I'm not worried, but it's not a good fit. Trying to check the other line's center and help out below the dots would be a nightmare. Wasnt the NHL more physical back then? We already have 2 dynamic 2-way centers on the roster so its not like his role would be to stop the opposing top lines.
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) I would think a former catcher has a statistical background. I said this in another thread, I always found former catchers to be very intriguing as managers. Part of that is Scioscia being a personal favorite of mine however. Would AA have had him as a final 2 candidate if he didnt pay attention to stats?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) If Adam Dunn hit 40 to 50 home runs and Rios hit .320 with 110 RBIs and Peavy won 18 games, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Ozzie would be a great manager. Then playing them would have made sense this season. Of course it wouldnt have overshadowed his already terrible decisions in previous seasons. And then maybe he wouldmt have quit his job and threw it in the faces of fans like you.
  25. Lol, you know when you hang your opinion on a blog written by a guy named Duk that youve made it.
