QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) The UI is a problem. There is a "base" UI that you can use, but most people leave on the phone distributer's overlay. I think the uniformity will come when Google releases a UI that is good enough to be the default across all the phones. The control is a very fair point. I dont know how this will play out, but Android will be incorporated into cars soon... mark my words. With regards to charing, most, if not all, mobile phones will be charged via Micro-USB in the next few years. It's finally become the standard due to regulations in Europe. But each phone distributer wants THEIR phone to stick out which is why they will tweak the way the OS looks so that their users become accustomed to their brand of phones. I dont think we'll see a universal OS for all phones across the Android OS, because simply, those hardware companies dont want to be the same as each other. I saw your edit. The thing is that most companies will say, do I want my users to be able to use the most widely used MP3 player in their cars for their enjoyment, or will I make the commitment to only allowing people with a certain brand of phone to be able to use it in the car. Most companies will choose an ipod control accessory, which ironically enough, also works with the iphone. Integrating audio controls with the phones themselves just isnt as important. I'd venture to guess most folks who own an android phone have an ipod as well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Wireless charging is already a reality. With an accessory that plugs into your phone and requires you to use their proprietary charging pad which has to make contact with the phone.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) So a mediocre AL pitcher (4.50 ERA) can become a #1 or #2 in the NL (3.50 ERA)? I think a half run is a better estimation. Ted Lilly called and said yes it can happen.

I think KW and Ozzie put Oz in a position to succeed or be canned. Clearly his roster decisions were wrong and he should be gone. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) I meant companies will pass it up with better hardware (the EVO and Droid Incredible are almost on par with iPhone4). "Universally usable" is a bit of a loose term. Many cars now simply have an AUX input or a USB jack (Ford Sync) The Andoid UI needs some work, but the just hired the UI guy from Palm, so I have a feeling there will be some major changes in the next year. In the end, iPhone will probably always be "sexier", but Android will be just as good. The UI is tweaked by every company out there, its just an OS, which is why it may be more prevalent at some point, but each phone has a different look and feel which is why it will seem like 6 different phone trying to compete not only with the iphone but with each other. And the Aux input doesnt allow control of the unit, and each unit will have different controls which wont allow manufacturers to set a standard for charging and control of the unit. This will be a huge weak point of Android based phones.

QUOTE (vandy125 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) That is a good point for now, but I know we are heading in the direction where you just keep your phone in your pocket and all these accessories wirelessly interact with the software on the phone. You won't need those docking stations any more. How is it going to charge? Are you saying every alarm clock will have bluetooth?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Strasburg will be a hell of a lot more consistent though due to his control. My thought as well after watching a bit more (im a nerd and recorded it). I still think that slurve is going to shred his elbow. The control he shows on his fastballs is ridiculous. He commands really 3 different fastballs and I saw at least 3 different curves. -

I still think he looks like Kerry Wood did when he came up. I thought he was the second coming as well. Hopefully Strasburg is a little more durable. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Rock, what were you saying about existing AT&T customers being grandfathered in for an upgrade? Will it be the $99 and $199 price points? Thats what I heard, with a 2 year contract extension.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Who care about total # of apps, that is just an Apple talking point. Yeah so the iPhone has an app that counts the number of mitochondria in your left pointer - whooooo! so does the droid, so count that in their total as well. And with the Android just being an operating system, accessory manufacturers have several phones to concentrate on which makes it extremely hard to make anything of value. iphone? How many docking stations, boomboxes, car controls etc have been designed for the apple hardware? How many new cars come with a droid accessory plug in that you can control with your steering wheel. The hardware and the OS being from one company is what is going to keep the iphone at the top, couple that with a ridiculously larger population of ap developers, and there is what is making it the best.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) Really good play, the throw was perfect too from such a difficult position. Get your ass to the park good luck charm. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Also, his ERA at PETCO Park is 2.74 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP, while his career #'s are 3.40 & 1.19, so that definitely helped him out in the past. Part of that is because its his home park though. Familiar mound, landing spot, visual cues. Its easier to pitch at home in general. Its not all the dimensions.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) His mechanics are slightly better than Wood's. Kerry threw across his body, Strasburg is more over the top. Both do have an inverted W in their delivery though. His hard breaker looks just like Kerry's did, and I assume the pressure put on the elbow is the same as well. I foresee a Dr Andrews visit in his future. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) This guy's like 2005 Bobby Jenks, but a starter... Just struck out Milledge on two great curveballs. I disagree. I think he is a complete Kerry Wood clone. From that hard breaker to his fastball. And I think he'll have arm troubles just like Kerry did as well. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) The fat linemen from season 2 got dumped by his amazingly beautiful girlfriend as soon as she went off to college. IIRC that linebacker's gf was the hottest. Or was he the d-lineman?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) This is a kid who was on a reality show on MTV and actually came out better for it. His makeup is outstanding. That coupled with him being the brother of an Alabama QB and himself the QB of an intense High School football program with a winning tradition, it's amazing that this kid came out as good as he did. DOes he still have that smokin hot girlfriend?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) i mean he's only had to pull him twice in the finals, no biggie. He did a nice job earning those numbers against one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL. -
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) I think we overated it. We expected Peavy to be a frontline starter, but in fact, has been horrible this season. The other guys - Buerhle, and Floyd - were expected to be 2 or 3 type starter pitchers, and they've been horrible. Only Danks has been consistent all season (until his last 2 starts) and lived up to pre-season expectations, but I wouldn't say he's more than a borderline #2 and probably a #3 starter. When Garcia has been as good, if not better than 3 of your starters, your team is in trouble. Realistically, this team lacks a #1 starter, and maybe a #2 starter, although Danks COULD be that. Yes, because results for a half season mean more than their entire careers. Peavy is a #1 and has gone through 2 major mechanical tweaks this season alone. He will be our Ace for the next several years. If you dont believe Danks is a #2 then you havent been watching him. He is one of the better LHP in the AL. Buehrle is having a bad season, how many good ones has he had? Just because the results arent there for a few months, doesnt mean thats the type of players they are.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) I wasnt overwhelmed. It was a solid upgrade, but I expect several Android phones to pass it in the next 6 months. I really wanted to like it (hoping it would come to Verizon). For those who are interested: iPhone4 vs Increadible vs EVO vs Nexus One Pass it how exactly? It wont have more apps, and it wont be as universally usable as the iphone with things like cars and audio devices. My gf has the incredible, and though I think its a great phone with some great features, it still doesnt touch the iphone.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) I snapped one on some kind of deep swimmer's press or something and it caught me in the face. Not fun. I just gotta say, I love P90X. I have never spent money so well. I snapped one doing back exercises awhile back. It came down and smacked me clear in the chest. Was black and blue for weeks.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) This is your opinion, so Im not going to say you are wrong, but the way I saw it Hartnell directly impacted Niemi's ability to move to the other side of the net to deflect that rebound. Hartnell was laying against Niemi's leg and the puck went directly over Hartnells back. It was a slick veteran move to distract and disrupt the goalie, but the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the overhead replay was that Hartnell very much impacted the play from Niemi. Yeah he did, he was grabbing Niemi's leg pad as well. Its not really subjective, he clearly affected his movement in the crease.
