  2. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) this thread is really negative for having a 2-0 lead.. I'm not watching the game, but I think someone needs to put a little perspective into the thread... we're winning... and we're in first place in September... GO SOX! its nice to have the lead especially off of halladay no doubt...but alot of game left to play...ill be happy when we are up by 2 with 3 outs in the ninth.... is that the abc 7 news anchor? i think it was ....linda yu i think her name is
  3. thome with a good pitch to hit on 1-1 there.....god halladay throws absolutely nothing straight
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) I really don't get why we don't let Carrasco start. especially with linebrink back and at least having wasserman/logan/macdougal to get through meaningless garbage innings
  5. twins with a 2 out RISP hit....shocking
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) You mean like yesterday's day game? haha no my mistake...ithought you had just showed up for the 7 pitch inning and werent here before that... either way yesterdays games and gamee threads took a good couple weeks off my life
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Nice 7 pitch inning...a complete shock. just stay out of the game threads....we do better when you are gone edit: whups nevermind thought you were gone when we scored 2....haha actually it was me....maybe i should stay out!
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Hey, Jerry Owens is up this inning! haha and uribe
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) But hey, Swish is a much better hitter than most of our lineup. not sure what your problem is, but what was said last night was that hes not even close to the worst hitter in our lineup, let alone the worst hitter in the majors......
  10. just checked in....mark gave up 3 hits, and got 3 outs in the first, all on 11 pitches? thats tough to do
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Are we done for the season? as i said in the gamethread, the nationals could hang within 1 game of the angels over the course of 18 games, so i dont think we are done, but it doesnt look good
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) It's crazy to think the Jays were close to trading Rios for Lincecum. i had to think that those were just rumors ....and much closer to being rumor than fact
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I knew there was a reason I stopped following our minor leagues. haha its so sad....if it wasnt a poreda start, or a kanny game at the end of the year....my attention to the minor leagues was so much less
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) OBP IS NOT THE SAME AS BATTING AVERAGE. Walks are really nice, I like hitters who take walks. But it looks like you are saying that Swish is a better hitter just because his OBP is higher. Walks don't drive in runs. Those players are without question better hitters than Swish (other than Uribe) until Swish bats .260. He's just no good right now, .228 with a .600 on base isn't good enough. You have to be able to hit to be good. ok, thats fair if thats what you think, i just disagree, thats all..... ill respectfully say we have a differnce in opinions on what we value in our hitters...nothing wrong with that, i tend to think im right, just as im sure you tend to think you are right, no point in arguing it further
  15. btw...you guys make good points about killing danks and floyd with a 4 man rotation....in terms of the Poreda stuff, all i heard was some speculation from our favorite carpet bomber about poreda potentially starting on saturday
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Call me crazy if people know better, but i'm pretty sure that the only way you're going to tell the difference between a sprain and a partially/fully torn ligament is with the MRI. ya....im far from an expert as well but i have some basic experience with MRI and Xray and they wont be able to tell too much without an MRI
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) When did OBP become the determining point of how good a hitter is? its a hell of a lot more telling than batting average.....and frankly this is fact, not even opinion
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) I love the Nick Swisher is good arguement... the guy is hitting .226 with 120 strikeouts, but is considered good because he is "patient" (which is BS anyway as he is much too patient at bat, letting good pitches go and K'ing way too many times looking) and walks a fair amount of times. not sure anyone said hes good....just that hes far from being the worst hitter among the regulars....let alone the worst in the league but you know what i love? people who continue to use antiquated stats like batting average in their arguements (i mean honestly, the batting average myth has been debunked for so many years i have no idea why people continue to put so much stock in it....if people are unwilling to accept more sophisticated stats i understand some of that, but i'll never understand why people cant get that looking at batting average without looking at peripheral stats is simply pointless)
  19. this is all that i will say about this silly, silly arguement, but AJ, crede, Cabrera, Uribe have never had an obp of .343 in an entire season let alone had an obp of .343 while hitting 24 HRs, meanwhile swisher is having a down year and those are his #s.... in addition it doesnt appear as if ramirez will ever have an obp north of .330 either, but at least he hits extra base hits and appears as if he can hold a .330 obp (though im skeptical that he will continue to hit .300 in the future)
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Toby just missed that. haha...not that backup catcher is this teams biggest concern, but you can add toby to the list of players i won't miss next year
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) I do. Ozzie is as good as any except maybe Torre. ozzie is a great off field/clubhouse manager...on the field IMO he is definitely sub par...he has admitted that he doesnt really look at stats and just manages on his gut...to me, in this day in age, that is absolutely inexcusible.....any other type of mangement in any other work environment would be fired for neglecting such information.....not saying you have to use that stuff as the bible, but im not sure how you can simply ignore alot of that stuff
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) My first thought when PK went down- "torn ACL". yeah it wasnt good....we are going to have to pitch our asses off and pull out a bit of magic to win this thing...but its only what 18 more games...the 03 tigers could play within 1 game of the 27 yankees in a sample size of just 18 games....ok well maybe not quite that extreme, but you get my point
  23. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) easily the worst hitter of our regulars. Uribe (and crede when he was healthy), AJ, cabrera, are all inferior hitters....in addition konerko has been roughly equivalent, and probably a tad worse this year...and alexei is similar IMO
  24. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) is nick swisher the worst hitter in the majors? not even close to being the worst hitter among our every day regulars....
