QUOTE (knightni @ May 19, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Thanks! I feel goofy picking Carlton and Thorpe now. you shouldnt...while i never got around to making a list i certainly would have included thorpe....if this was strictly a greatest athletes to ever be associated with chicago....thorpe would be #1 or 2, right up there with jordan....

Would you throw out the First Pitch at Wrigley?
daa84 replied to JoeBatterz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
never been to wrigley....why start now actually up until a little over a year ago i had never been to another MLB stadium other than the cell/old comisky....which none of my friends could believe, being that im such a huge baseball fan -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Good for him...kid battled cancer just a couple years back. I dont care if you hate the Red Sox or not, this is a good story : "yeah but it was the good hodgkins....im not saying its a great hodgkins" in all seriousness, you're right, i have respect for guys like lester and lowell and am happy for them as individuals....but i just wish they wore a different uniform

QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) What happened to C. Lee? twice threw high and tight...knocked him to his butt both times (once by lilly once by marmol)....announcers even said they were thrown with a purpose...nothing really wrong with it, just something that you do to the other team when it happens to you, but the mlb has disallowed the "self policing" recently
-
berkman has to be smarter than that...he had to know that marmol wasnt going to give him anything to hit, and he didnt throw a ball within a foot of the plate and berkman helped him out big time.... if you are the astros you gotta throw at soriano high and tight tomorrow after what the astros did to C lee

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) The NL is just brutal. Either the Cubs are playing a team that features a AAA offense, or they face a team that features three or four #5 starters. Oh yeah, they get to face the Pirates every week. the quality of bullpens in that league is horrendous too.... is marmol really gonna pitch to him? wow even if this works out how stupid

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Prepare thyself for ESPN coverage of the greatest no-hitter in the history of all mankind i f***ing hate the red sox...be glad you dont live within the shadow of fenway...i can hear the morons cheering already

QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) What's the chance of Berkman going 0 for the series? same as the chances of any of esteban german, tony pena or david dejesus breaking up lesters no no in the ninth.....not good

so with 2 on and 2 outs and...you think tejada is gonna get something to hit here with berkman on deck

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ May 19, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) I've been asking a lot of other Sox fans about this, but haven't found anything that can confirm nor deny. I seem to remember that the Sox had a welcome back Carlton Fisk day right after the new park opened and we gave him a motorcycle. Now I don't know if there was another falling out since then... does anyone remember this??? I wanna even say there was an Upper Deck baseball card for the occasion, but then again I could be getting mixed up with the one featuring Fisk and Ventura looking at the new park... Fisk/Ventura 1991 Upperdeck "Groundbreaking" nevertheless, awesome card. i was at the game and have the card....i was young too, but i recall it being fisks last game, not a welcome back game but i could be wrong.....and yeah they gave him a motorcycle i think i still have a giveaway program thing from that game in my closet at home somewhere heres something i found on it from an interview between donn pall and baseball alamanc http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/do...interview.shtml

the tour through the national league continues in this series with houston...brian moehler, chris sampson, and shawn chacon pitch for the astros...look out oh and they get the pirates again after that

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2008 -> 11:32 PM) I was playing Wii earlier, and my wife hit a homer against me in baseball. It has to be a lowlight of my sporting career. That, or hitting a possible Hall of Fame baseball player in the nuts with a fastball (Granderson). i hate wii for the sole reason that chicks like to play it -
