Deivi Garcia? Edit: Yes, Deivi Garcia. (Claimed by White Sox)
kwill replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You know its a rebuilding when you start taking everyone's former prospect. Who was that first baseman from the Astros that everybody on the board got excited about but then sucked for us just like he did for the Astros? I know everybody says the rotation is a need but I think the Sox will go into next year with Scholtens and Touki which just leaves one spot on paper. That leaves some huge questions marks but it really depends on how those guys throw the rest of the year. SP Cease SP Scholtens SP Kopech SP Touki SP ?/ Clevinger? Right Fielder: I would presume would be Colas 2nd Base: Who cares the Sox clearly never have Catcher: Some combination of the young guys. And Boom! So lets do what we do best and get a recovering pitcher for the 5th starter and spend the rest of the remaining money on the bullpen. -
Colas however does seem to want it. You do see him always busting his ass down the line, clearly gets upset when he doesnt perform in a good spot and even Grifol said he comes to him for hitting advice. I really like Oscar. He showed the ability to drive the ball in the minors. My hope is that he makes the necessary adjustments to show the power he had in the minors. He seems to have a hard time covering the outer portion of the plate.

Keynan Middleton rips White Sox 'no rules' culture
kwill replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For a guy in Hahn who at best has always been MR. PR its puzzling to take this approach of " we traded the problem". Nobody in hell would buy that. Just be honest, " Look we have a terribly disappointing year and nobody feels good about that. Some of the stories that have come out are true. Its always he easy to say you have good culture when you win but its more difficult when things don't go to plan. We are going to take the time to improve our overall team culture and how we go about business. We want to end this season on high note with not only play good quality baseball but going about it the right way". Thats it. -
f*** this. He got up and pointed in Tim’s face a half inch away. What do you want him to do?

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
kwill replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They got a bajillion position player prospects. To me its surprising that these two organizations couldn't get together to make a trade. Maybe the White Sox were demanding Jackson Holliday which I would not put in a trade as well. But they could have offered 3 top 100 position prospects and only put a dent in their farm system. Who knows.. -
I know Grandel the last two years has been disappointing however is the guy an asshole or something? Or just people put there frustrations out on him because he is a Hahn signing.

Additionally, I would rate Baltimores deadline in F. Who are they even picking up in the offseason to help them pitch? -
Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance

I would D but its difficult to judge not knowing what the offer was going to be. I think the obvious strategy they employed was trying to get as many coin flip AAA or AA starters and hopefully have them make the rotation next year. Can they compete next year? Sure, but only because the division we play is so miserably bad that its a disgrace we are 10 games or whatever back. -
I actually think it’s a college to minor league issue.
-
Do you think the White Sox front office gave the social media guy a heads up like- you might want to make a cool trade graphic.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
kwill replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because patchwork does not work. Maybe 17 years ago their was a chance of that working out. In todays baseball as a franchise you can not be successful buying midlevel free agents and competing. Every baseball teams model should be teardown, build up and then purchase the best free agents possible to extend your run, tear down again. Unless you can be like the Dodgers who purchase players and have an incredible player development program. However, You just need to look around the league. What wins is player development. I would rather fail at player development than lose on the outset by not having the right philosophy. Look at the fucking Angels. Have two of the best players on earth. Try to patch work free agents and consistently a .500 team. You can't win like that- at least not consistently. Tear the mother fucker down. Get A+ and AA players. Try again to win in two years with player development and buying free agents because you have no money on the books. You can probably trade Cease and Robert- get great prospect hauls and be the best minor league system in baseball. -

Because although the White Sox failed in their rebuild attempt their have been plenty that have been successful. O’s, Ray, Astros, Mariners, Braves. What doesn’t work is trying to buy mid-level free agents and hope to compete. That never works for anybody. Look at the Yankees and Mets- teams that have a s%*# ton of money but have failed in player development. It’s nearly impossible in this day in age to not when by player development. -

I would trade Robert and Cease if the offer is good enough to warrant. I would not trade them for a dime less than their worth however. The truth is Robert's value will never be higher. He is controlled, healthy and producing. Unfortunately, You can't say that has been the case for most of his career. If you can get a collection of good minor league prospects than you should do it. I would say the package would have to start with 3 top 100 prospects with at least one of them in the top 100. That would be the start of the conversation. Sure, you can try to win with him but is Jerry going to go out and spend 80+ million/ Year to rebuild a starting staff like they will need too. I would say probably not. You look around at the teams that are good this year. A large part is by having cost controlled good players and that starts in the minor league system. If we had a loaded system I would say lets keep our really good players. But we don't. Which means at best running out mediocre squads for the next 3 years. I would just rather rip the bandaid off. Let me suffer for another 2 years with the hope that something better is coming than live in mediocre. I dont think the thought of the rebuild was the issue but rather the execution. -

I am interested to see the return on the rest of the rentals for this trade deadline and how it compares -
When I suggested trading him- this is why.. He has not shown that he stay healthy consistently.

This is a tough game to be at.

Gavin Sheets has to be on the hot seat at this point. He is what he is… Do you bring up Colas and hope he figures it out. Probably a little better in the outfield than Sheets. -
Because its Trash. The top 3 prospects in a bottom 5 system have been on the IL till recently. Nobody in particular has really impressed. Maybe in the latter half the year interest will pick up when Montgomery and Ramos play on a regular basis.
