  1. I just wanted to throw this here as I find it will be interesting to see what his pitch mix will be going into the next start. It seems like they went with a different approach last outing. https://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=16400&position=P&gds=&gde=&season=&type=6
  2. I do really wonder what the plan is for Hansen moving forward. We kept hearing they were going to stretch him out. It is June now and just did one inning of work.
  3. I always up until this trade season have been pro trading guys for whatever minor league assets we could get but I do think this season is different. No, I don't have any misconceived dreams of making the playoffs even so we all know that this is not a championship level team. I think this year is different for a few reasons. I realize that every player/person looks at an opportunity to play/work differently and weighs different pro/cons. I do believe that winning does play a factor in each players decision how big or small is player dependent. But no less a factor and the difference between winning 77 games compared to 70 games could cost dollars or even an opportunity to land a big fish. I suppose if you were to say the most likely White Sox moved that have value would be Colome and Abreu with the outside chance of McCann. I would argue though that these players have a considerable amount of value for developing the young guys/current assets on the team. Whenever you trade them there is always risk that the you could hinder their growth. From all indications Abreu has been a great team leader of the club house and Moncada has specifically has expressed gratitude for being able to play with him. There is a sense of stability for young pitchers to hand over the ball to the bullpen with Colome being brilliant this year. McCann could be a huge part of Lucas Giolito's success. Who knows maybe none of this matters to the young guys success but what happens if it does? As an organization are you willing to bet on that? Next year should be the first year of the championship window. The White Sox finally have seen improvements from their internal players such Giolito, Moncada and Anderson. Additionally, they could potentially add a few strong additions in Kopech, Robert and Cease. This alone should give the organization a huge boost towards success. As soon as the White Sox brought Moncada/Giolito up they started the clock on when they will hit free agency. At this point, Each are suppose to be hitting free agency in 4.5 years. They need to start winning while these guys are cheap and cost controlled. It will start getting more difficult when the young guys service time starts expiring because the White Sox don't spend like the big guys to keep their championship window open. Colome and McCann are still under contract for next season. I don't see a clear successor for either right now at their positions. Abreu could theoretically be signed back in the offseason but he has expressed not wanting to be traded. Would the White Sox still be a preferred destination if he did get traded? Plus, I think it is just good business to keep your star franchise players. I am not saying don't listen to offers. But, I do think its worth establishing a high price and holding to it. And if its not met than hold onto to the players because they could very well be most valuable to the White Sox.
  4. I believe this is 100% correct. I think the White Sox have to be decently competitive enough for a free agent to believe that they are going to put them over the top. It is really the only reason why I would be against trading Colome. I do not have any dreams of a wild card birth but if we could be able .500 to end the season, I do believe that will help attract free agents.
  5. Their is definite reason to be skeptical of Lopez but actually throw a breaking ball with control goes along way. Even on his good starts this year he was still using his fastball as his primary out pitch. This game he finally was able to control his breaking ball. Hopefully it continues because that would mean we have two guys in the rotation going into next year that we can count on.
  6. Its nice to see Lopez putting people away with something other than his fastball. Only one walk as well makes me think this could be the start of a string of good starts.
  7. I agree that a sub 2.00 ERA would make you premier but I would like to point out there is not one relief pitcher who has a sub 2.00 ERA for both this year and last year. And there was only 7 all of last year. So maybe the definition of premier needs to expand slightly. I do understand what you are saying though. I probably would not put him in the Chapman, Kimbrel and Diaz class as he does not strike enough people out. But, I would put him in the class just below it which still is extremely valuable considering the bullpens of some of the present contenders.
  8. The thing that is different about Colome than say Greg Holland, Joakim Soria or some of these other guys that people are comparing him to is that Colome has a track record of being really good. Like he has no down years at all and is in the prime of his career. I think their is difference between a premier relief pitcher and one that is just good for one year or had multiple down years.
  9. Astros- Altuve, Bregman, Springer and Correa Red Sox- Martinez, Betts Bogaerts Yankees- Stanton, Judge, Sanchez Point being- I don't care what side of the plate you are on right or left. I just want you to be very very good at hitting. Give me Anthony Rendon any day of the week. You can always find guys who can platoon at DH if you want a left handed hitter. Last year Palka had an .824 OPS against Righties, Last Year Cargo batted a cool .828 against Righties- point is these guys are a dime a dozen.
  10. Anthony Rendon- The best baseball player of the last two free agent classes. Spend the damn money.
  11. I do think that the White Sox should ask for a haul for Colome or else whats the point of trading him? Colome is still under contract for next year and they White Sox clearly are trying to compete in 2020. You could then try to extend him if you don't have a viable replacement when his deal is up. If you look at the free agent class next year it leaves much to be desired on the relieving market which makes him even more valuable to any team and harder to replace for the White Sox. IMO, It should be a top 100 guy and a legit lottery ticket at the least.
  12. If I am a Braves fan I am super pissed right now. Their window is now and they have a great team down there with a new stadium. Kimbrell is home grown talent that would have filled your largest need. Anyway a Newcomb+Contreras package seems fair.
  13. I wonder if the first pick ends up being an overslot guy tomorrow with the idea of seeing how much you can save today with the last several picks. Tonight you would check around to see what high end talent number could have gone down from the last several days.
  14. Just from watching him tonight one thing he can work on is keeping his delivery consistent. He tends to speed it up and slow it down quite a bit throughout the ball game. He actually threw some nice change up in there tonight but he seems to have no ability to control pitches. Cooper needs to make his money on him. I wonder why they went away from his 12-6 curveball. I thought it was his best pitch coming from the Nationals.
  15. Honestly, I would not mind seeing him in the closer role if we move Alex Colome. I think he could be a guy that sees his stuff tick up if only used for one inning and could be better served if he just had to focus on using 2 pitches. If the Eaton trade gives us Giolito as a Top of Rotation Guy, Lopez as a closer, and Dunning- Back of the Rotation or Future Trade Piece. That is a hell of a trade for us.
  16. Man, I don't get the phone call bit they are showing on the broadcast. It looks really bad. Just have the host read the pick.
  17. I do think the White Sox offer is probably greater than this but I wonder if a leak like this makes the negotiations go south on some level. Pretty much everybody in baseball is currently shaming the White Sox for being cheap. This would piss me off if I was an owner.
  18. Why does everybody ignore that Anthony Rendon is a free agent next year.
  19. Jake Burger will not be ready for another 2 years. At best he comes back in June and will at least a year and half of seasoning. That is "if" he is still able to play 3rd base which was a concern even before the multiple achilies tears.
  20. I was the person who you are referring to and the amount was 2/48 million dollars which would equate to 24 million a year. The point being is that we probably have about 40 million dollars committed to next year which is probably 100 million dollars less than if they were competitive. I would rather have the White Sox try to use the room to sign higher average annual value but with lower years attached. It does not make me sleep better watching Yolmer Sanchez play third base while Jerry is making an extra 100 million dollars on the year because the White Sox are not investing in the team. Yes, that is alot per season but overall the dollar amount does not come with much long term risk. Donaldson was a 5 WAR player 2017, if he was healthy this year he would be paid in excess of 150 million dollars. He is not so it might be a good opportunity to improve the team. And if he is healthy for the first half of the year, you could easily flip him for young talent.
  21. I would like to see the following: Sign Donaldson (2 Year-48 million) to play 3B Sign McCutchen (2-36 million) to play CF- I know he can't really field the position but hopefully you can move him to RF when in one year. Let Jordan Guerraro and Stephen pitch in September. I am not saying take the ball every 5th day but it would not hurt for them to get 2 starts in before the end of the year. I would try to sign somebody like J.A Happ to a (2 year-40 million) One good thing about having a very low payroll is you can give guys higher AAV than most teams without long term commitments.
  22. My hope is this off-season they can correct him and he feels more comfortable with his arm being healthy. I read while in college he had arm issues which I wonder caused command issues. Just pure speculation on my part. At the very least, he is still striking out everybody when he gets the ball over.
  23. Is there a thought to just bring him up to AAA at this point. I know he is moving fast through the system but what is the point of being AA. He is just so much better than the rest of the competition at this point. The other option is to let him throw lesser amount of innings the rest of the way. He is already has 20 more innings on his arm than last year. Should you take it easy on him and let him top out at like 140 innings this year.
  24. I think we have a tendency to get into prospect/rebuild mode and want to trade everybody. I would much rather move forward with keeping Rodon with a large extension. At some point, The White Sox need to pay somebody, for me its the lefty going into his prime throwing 98. I would hate to look back next year and think we traded the two best left handed pitchers in the American league.
