I am very skeptical of the value of Nick Madrigal ever being more than an average 2nd baseman. Here are the things that worry me. 28 hits- Only 3 Extra Base Hits. 1 Stolen Base- If you only hit singles. You would like the player to be a stolen base threat. 3 Walks- Yes, he works deep into counts so I do believe this is one area of improvement we could see in the near future. But, if you are not going to hit for power- you better be able to walk. 378 BABIP- He will probably carry a higher than normal BABIP because of his speed but he doesn't hit the ball with much authority which makes me believe this will go down as well. -1.1 UZR- This is such a small sample size so its hard to take field metrics seriously without a whole season. But, you would like to see this in the positive given the other limitations of his game. Now I am not saying that he will not improve. I do believe he will need to change his approach at some point to hit the ball with some authority. He could become more of a stolen base threat and maybe the metrics through a whole season will make him a positive defender. Some of this is not fair because he is in the majors when all of his draft peers are in the minors. But, He was the number 3 pick in the draft- you would like to at least see star potential. Right now, I see everyday regular.
  2. Actually think he just belongs in the pen and can be really good there. He just never brings 3 above average pitches to the park.
  3. Look if Moncada is not great than the rebuild takes a major hit anyway. We might as well be all in on him. I for one think he is a MVP type player.
  4. I am so ready for the Sox to take this decade. The fanbase has been so patient with the rebuild. LETS F***ING GO!
  5. I think the question becomes what does a reasonable extension look like for Moncada. 6-98 Million. Grabbing 2 more years of control, cost certainty but paying more in the beginning of the contract. This would make Moncada a free agent at 30 which would still allow him for another pay day. I can't see an agent letting him extend past 30. 2020-6 Million 2021- 8 Million 2022- 14 million 2023- 20 Million 2024- 25 Million 2025- 25 Million
  6. Their is no way of knowing what/ how much what factors goes into a player signing a contract unless the player publicly states it. So we are left with this speculation argument which can go around in a circle. You can't correlate Moncada's decision with Grandel or Robert. All three are different people who could have different motives. One thing is clear Abreu has brought a strong Cuban influence in the clubhouse and does actively recruit for the White Sox. Additionally, It is my opinion that it is a good look to take care of your own players and show loyalty even if it cost you a few million dollars. I think 3/33 would have been a fair market deal. So we paid an extra 12 million dollars over 3 years to a player who has strong club house presence, actively recruits other players( whether this plays into their decision), and has been the face of the franchise during some tough times. To me this seems like small potatoes to gripe about.
  7. I am totally against trading Tim Anderson. I know Lindor is a fantastic talent but I want to win with my guys. Tim Anderson - Signed a Long Term Extension With the Club - Leader During A Tough Rebuild - Exciting Player - Fairly Good Shortstop Can we just sign good players instead of trade our team leader for upgrades.
  8. I don't mind the signing with considering the hope is either Kopech or Rodon are the 2nd half 5th Man in the Rotation starter. If Gio can give us 100 good innings I would be happy.
  9. Pretty sure Sale's Extension starts next year for the full 5/150.
  10. I know this would never happen because real life does not work this way but just for fun. What would you say we do this: Sign Rendon 6-240 ( 40 Per Season) 3 Team Trade ( Dodgers, White Sox, Ray) White Sox in the process are adding about 57 million from this. Dodgers Receive: Yoan Moncada Rays Receive: Dustin May Nick Madrigal White Sox Receive: Gavin Lux Blake Snell Joc Pederson I think all three teams would benefit. The rays actually could make out the best in the deal. White Sox: LF-Jimenez CF: Robert RF: Pederson C Grandal 1B Abreu 2B Lux SS Anderson 3B Rendon Rotation: Giolito Snell Cease Lopez FA/Kopech/Rodon Again, Don't hate me, just being creative.
  11. Because those starters and relievers are probably not going to bring back the same value as Rendon but will cost more per season combined.
  12. I would like to see the White Sox make a large play for Rendon. Consider just signing a Porcello type with the hopes of a bounce back and sitting out the pitching market until midseason. Just try to mash your ways to wins and then evaluate your young pitching before the trade deadline. If need during the trade deadline use Madrigal as a trade piece. I just have faith that Kopech and Cease are going to come through next season.
  13. I totally understand this but we already got one good player in a position of need. One middle of the rotation pitcher does not make an off-season. I would be upset if Grandel is the only signing but I suspect that will not be the case. I think its encouraging that they had the best offer. I personally think they could use the 23 million per year over the next 5 in a better way.
  14. I think we should withdraw from conclusions until the whole offseason is complete. Most people on this board thought Wheeler would be more than 100 Million. He got 118. It is a clear overpay and sometimes you have to do that in free agency but lets not act like the ship has sailed on the White Sox competing. If Phils went out and spent this cash right away for Wheeler and the next day we signed Grandal most fans would be praising the White Sox.
  15. I would think the Dodgers would be looking for a middle relief pitcher for Pederson. I wondering if they would be interested in a guy like Hamilton or Johnson?
  16. Can anybody clarify. Are we at 38 or 39 on the 40 Man Roster. It should be 38 with Burr and Yolmer gone, correct? If so, Why open up two spots for 1 signing?
  17. I just guess two things are happening right now. 1. Trade is closed to happening and need to inform all of the parties. I would have thought something would have leaked. 2. Waiting on physical results.
  18. For some reason I believe Colome ends up with the Braves. There is a clear need for a closer down there and they have the prospects to give up without getting a top tier guy. I think Allard and Contreras are super interesting not that we would be able to get them both.
  19. I just wanted to throw this here as I find it will be interesting to see what his pitch mix will be going into the next start. It seems like they went with a different approach last outing. https://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=16400&position=P&gds=&gde=&season=&type=6

I do really wonder what the plan is for Hansen moving forward. We kept hearing they were going to stretch him out. It is June now and just did one inning of work.
  21. I always up until this trade season have been pro trading guys for whatever minor league assets we could get but I do think this season is different. No, I don't have any misconceived dreams of making the playoffs even so we all know that this is not a championship level team. I think this year is different for a few reasons. I realize that every player/person looks at an opportunity to play/work differently and weighs different pro/cons. I do believe that winning does play a factor in each players decision how big or small is player dependent. But no less a factor and the difference between winning 77 games compared to 70 games could cost dollars or even an opportunity to land a big fish. I suppose if you were to say the most likely White Sox moved that have value would be Colome and Abreu with the outside chance of McCann. I would argue though that these players have a considerable amount of value for developing the young guys/current assets on the team. Whenever you trade them there is always risk that the you could hinder their growth. From all indications Abreu has been a great team leader of the club house and Moncada has specifically has expressed gratitude for being able to play with him. There is a sense of stability for young pitchers to hand over the ball to the bullpen with Colome being brilliant this year. McCann could be a huge part of Lucas Giolito's success. Who knows maybe none of this matters to the young guys success but what happens if it does? As an organization are you willing to bet on that? Next year should be the first year of the championship window. The White Sox finally have seen improvements from their internal players such Giolito, Moncada and Anderson. Additionally, they could potentially add a few strong additions in Kopech, Robert and Cease. This alone should give the organization a huge boost towards success. As soon as the White Sox brought Moncada/Giolito up they started the clock on when they will hit free agency. At this point, Each are suppose to be hitting free agency in 4.5 years. They need to start winning while these guys are cheap and cost controlled. It will start getting more difficult when the young guys service time starts expiring because the White Sox don't spend like the big guys to keep their championship window open. Colome and McCann are still under contract for next season. I don't see a clear successor for either right now at their positions. Abreu could theoretically be signed back in the offseason but he has expressed not wanting to be traded. Would the White Sox still be a preferred destination if he did get traded? Plus, I think it is just good business to keep your star franchise players. I am not saying don't listen to offers. But, I do think its worth establishing a high price and holding to it. And if its not met than hold onto to the players because they could very well be most valuable to the White Sox.
  22. I believe this is 100% correct. I think the White Sox have to be decently competitive enough for a free agent to believe that they are going to put them over the top. It is really the only reason why I would be against trading Colome. I do not have any dreams of a wild card birth but if we could be able .500 to end the season, I do believe that will help attract free agents.
  23. Their is definite reason to be skeptical of Lopez but actually throw a breaking ball with control goes along way. Even on his good starts this year he was still using his fastball as his primary out pitch. This game he finally was able to control his breaking ball. Hopefully it continues because that would mean we have two guys in the rotation going into next year that we can count on.
  24. Its nice to see Lopez putting people away with something other than his fastball. Only one walk as well makes me think this could be the start of a string of good starts.
