  1. Anybody want to try to get the price. I will say 1-6million bonuses can take it up to 9 million.
  2. I thought the note about Burdi is quite interesting. Nick Hostetler said differently when talking to a blogger from Soxtalk. I wondered if Brass has reversed coarse on him.
  3. Does anybody else feel like Quintana maybe worth more in June? It seems like that time a year when teams will be the more desperate. Astros having a slow start. Yankees having a good start. Pirates having a good start. Even the Cubs get off to a bad start or have a pitcher go down for a signifcant amount of time. I can see them waste a year while Bryant and Rizzo are in there prime.
  4. God the Yankees rotation is hot garbage. I don't think they can really go anywhere even if they get Q.
  5. I get the feeling if he is not traded by Soxfest we are going to camp with him. I am perfectly alright with that. It seems many don't believe in Quintana for whatever reason. I see him as a modern day Cliff Lee. He control the strike zone with great fastball location and has two good secondary pitches. I think if the Sox liked Frances Martes the deal would be done. Fact is many around the industry are not sold on him. If the Astros refuse to trade Bregman than you really don't have a front line piece Houston can give you.
  6. I think the Cubs make perfect sense to trade for Quintana. The backend of the rotation is not all that good. 4th stater-Lackey is 38 years old and one year left. 5th Stater- Tyson Ross as best. A guy that may or may not be good after arm surgery. He already has issues with command in San Diego. Mike McGomery- A career reliever who is really good in long relief but who knows how he will hold throughout the season. And very rarely does a team go without using 6 or 7 different starting pitchers. Arrieta and Lackey will most likely walk. I could see the Cubs making a push for Darvish. I could also see them look at a guy like Archer with 5 years of control pretty appealing especially given his success in the American League. I do find it hard to believe the Cubs go into the season without picking up another arm.
  7. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 01:27 AM) Also tweeted this out. No reason to think it has any validity. nside Baseball ‏@InsideBaseball6 4h4 hours ago #Astros appear to be frontrunners to acquire #WhiteSox SP Jose Quintana. Prospects Kyle Tucker & Yulieski Gurriel could be part of the deal. Well that makes total sense. I knew we needed a 32 year old first baseman to headline a deal that contains our 27 year old starting pitcher in a rebuild.
  8. I've seen rumors around every White Sox big name player except Jose Abreu. I know most on this forum believe the right approach would be to hold onto him until the All Star Break and swap him in another large trade for prospects. What do you believe his value is currently? Abreu's War has decreased all three years from 5.3 WAR-2014,3.0 WAR-2015, and 1.6-2016. Obviously, He had a terrible first half of the year but it did seem like he figured some things out in the later half. There is some good things too like his K% dropped last year by 3 points and his walk rate went up 1.6% from 2015. He is only 30 years old at the beginning of the season so one would think that he would have 4-5 above average years left in his bat. He is under team control for 3 year but still in arbitration so probably something like 3/38. It is interesting as you can compare like Edwin Encarcion get a 3/60 million dollar deal with the Indians at the age of 34. To be fair, Encarcion has been a 4 win player for 5 years in a row. One would think though that Abreu has close to the same value as a decrease in production should be expected for Encarcion. To go along with my question, Do you think if Abreu hit the free agent market this year he would have received a higher or lower offer than Encarcion? The second thought I had when reading the New CBA is it could be valuable to have Abreu around as a recruiting source for Cuban players. if I am reading correctly ( please correct if not), each ream will be allowed 5-6 million dollars and will be capped. If this is the case this will prevent teams like the Dodgers and Yankees from hoarding the best international players with money. It could be valuable to have both the best young player( Moncada) and another respected Cuban on the same team. http://www.sbnation.com/2016/12/1/13806488...ment-luxury-tax What would you expect in a trade back for Abreu if traded right now? Mine would be 1-top 50 prospect, 1-Top 150 prospect and 1 lottery ticket.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) The main problem (which I was guilty of) is it's hard to comprehend the value of a super elite prospect like Moncada. I can guarantee you most GMs would consider him a top 30/40 asset in all of baseball despite only 20 poor plate appearances in the majors. Another factor is how much Kopech's stock improved over the course of the year and into the AFL. I think many of us still viewed him as a bottom half top 100 type and not a guy who is arguably one of the best right-handed pitching prospects in the game. Basabe is also criminally underrated and I myself am the first to admit how dissapointed I was at the time with him being the 3rd piece. Having said that, the more I read up on him the more I become enamored with his upside. Overall, I think it was a fairly even trade with no obvious day of winner. I tend to agree the gap between a guy like Glasnow and Kopech is not as big as many would think. Kopech stock went up with his performance in Arizaona Fall League. I expect him to be in the top 20 when the new rankings come out.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) I know the Sox are asking a lot for Q and it's understandable. He keeps getting better and better every year. Seems like these teams are waiting out the whole off season to drive down prices. With Q though I can't understand why he hasn't been moved yet. If he goes to the NL he could get even better and a team could potentially recoup a lot of what they lost trading for him while also getting a couple years of good production from him. It really seems like a win win win situation for the team getting him. Production, salary, recoup talent later. More NL teams need to step up and take advantage of such a unique situation. It's too bad the Dodgers are such misers with their young talent. Friedman has brought the Tampa Bay mind set to a very rich team and looks like the Dodgers will keep hoarding prospects . Some of their moves just boggle my mind. I remember commenting last year how they signed all these broken down starting pitchers and was pretty sure they didnt have enough starting pitching to be a serious World Series candidate. Why would they sign guys like Brandon McCarthy, Scott Kazmir and Brett Anderson for $110M worth of contracts or give a 36 year old Rich Hill 3 more years at near $50M ? Now again they are low balling the Twins for Dozier who is a perfect fit for them. The Dodgers were last in baseball by a wide margin last year in OPS against left handed pitching and need a 2nd baseman. It's like a King dealing with peasants. You know the more I read on Dodgers prospects it seems like Bellinger is a top 10 prospect in the game and rated low on MLB Piipline. Everybody raves about the bat and glove. I would probably take him over Meadows for the centerpiece.
  11. Can I just say whoever is getting these scoops before the National guys is an amazing resource for Soxtalk. Even if it ends up stalling, I still believe your intel.
  12. I was hoping Texas to push Houston to make a decent proposal.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) This is a good example for me. I don't see why Pirates would feel need to include 3rd team if they still need to trade Meadows. I would assume 3rd team is to prevent losing Meadows/Bell. They would be able to keep Bell and still get a controllable outfielder in Comforto. They could then move Marte to ceneterfielf.
  14. White Sox Get: Tyler Glasnow((Pit), Dominic Smithl(NY), Austin Meadows(Pit) Mets Gets: Andrew McCuthen(Pit) and David Robertson(Chi) Pirates Get: Jose Quintana(Chi), Michael Comforto(NY) Justin Dunn (NY) Pirates get two high end guys with control and a young prospect Mets: They get there centerfielder and closer White Sox: We get two high end position players with a young stud prospect pitcher. Close?
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) After reading around, sounds like a lot of Pittsburgh fans think Keller is as good of a prospect as Glasnow, just may not be recognized nationally as such yet. Meadows, Bell, Keller and Elias Diaz would have me very happy. I was just reading the Prospect List on the Pirates and thought the same package. I think the White Sox would have to throw a bullpen arm in there as well. Robertson or Jones.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Rank your trade partners: Yankees Pirates Rockies Rangers Astros Pirates Rockies Yankees Astros Rangers I like the Yankees but they are rebuilding as well. I think they are unwilling to part with Torres and where I think Meadows can be had.
  17. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 12:08 AM) Any deal w'/ the Yankees prospects BETTER include Gleyber Torres. That kid is going to be a stud once he bulks up a bit. I'm with you on Torres. He has to be in any deal. He is on the same level as Rodgers with the Rockies. You can start mix matching after that. I think the Yankees will ultimately pass on giving him up. I still think the Astros or Rockies make the most sense. I am worried about Martes headlining any deal. I think he could be a great relieve but with Fulmer and Lopez could be ticketed there as well. Tucker, Paulino, Reed and Daz Cameron would be an interesting haul. Again though, I am not sold as each of these guys have bust potential.
  18. I thought Derrick Holland was good at some point in his career but really, he was just an average starter. I hope he last to mid season.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) I don't the Sox get much in the way of prospects for Robertson or Frazier maybe use one to get a pre-arb catcher who can actually catch. I actually think that Frazier is an extension candidate if he wants to stay through the rebuild. Reasoning: Right now people want to underpay because he had a bad year. My belief is at some point in a new contract you will have an opportunity to trade him. His defense will likely improve making him probably in the range of a 3 WAR player. We have currently no replacement in the system. This will give them time to develop somebody. Turner got 4/64. I would assume Frazier gets under that, 4/55-60. Pretty reasonable deal. Downside: He is in his prime and will be leaving by the contact ends. Paying for 2 years where we will not be competitive.
  20. The more I am looking at the market, the more the Rockies look like the best trading partner. A Quintana and Robertson package seems to be in order for a Rodgers, Tapia, Marquez and Feeland package. Sox seem to like to get positional prospects that are close to being ready. They get 2 in this deal. Also, 2 lottery ticket arms who could be useful in the long run. Rockies. Get a number one starter and a closer. Their bullpen was not very good last year. They get to keep there two best pitching prospects. I am not high on either.

So now that the Dodgers just dropped about 150 million dollars today we can take them out of the discussion of giving a s*** about how much money they spend. Teams as dollars on dollars.
  22. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Turner back to the Dodgers so cross them off. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi Justin Turner’s deal with #Dodgers, when complete, expected to be 4 years. @Ken_Rosenthal just reported LA close on Turner and Jansen. @MLB Both deals are done. Jansen back to the Dodgers 5/80 Million per Rosenthal. Damn, Dodgers with all of their million of dollars. That is one trade partner thrown in the toilet. I wonder if the the White Sox turn to the Mets and Nats to see if they will play off of each other. I suspect the Nats are done dealing with the White Sox though.
  23. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) Who is beating out Giolito and Lopez for the #4 and #5 SP spots? Shields and Fulmer? Also, didn't Boston already start Moncada's clock last season? If so, what's the gain to starting him in the minors? There is no way they put Giolito or Lopez in the opening day rotation. This is why you pick up 2 veteran starters to get smashed around the park.Ivan Nova, Derek Holland, and Tyson Ross all make sense to give 1/1 deals to if they are willing to accept.
  24. Does anybody know, did Hahn go on the ESPN 1000. Any new tidbits?
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) The Sox aren't trading Quintana to Astros without getting Tucker back IMO. I personally think this is just posturing so Luhnow can eventually tell Hahn "fine, fine, I can't give you Bregman but I can do something with Tucker". At some point I see this trade getting done. Given their situation, a TOR starter is just too valuable to pass on over a prospect 2+ years out. I tend to agree but if this really their stance than screw them. The great thing about this rebuild is that you don't have to trade Quintana now. We can keep him and trade him at the deadline. If you don't think team will be all over a controllable Ace at the deadline, you need to look back at the past deadlines what teams have given up. I don't think the Astros win their division if they don't add another arm.
