  1. 94, you might just make my Grand Imperial Deuchebag list when it's all said and done, but the above is not without its charm.
  2. Way to be self-centered and naive. As if such a distinguished man of Letters as Mariotti would ever stoop so low as to actually steal auto-reply ideas from message board geeks. Why, you'd get laghed at in most bars.
  3. Cincinatti started the year with Larkin, Guillen, Dunn, Casey, Kearns, Griffey. Better than the AAA team Cleveland trotted out there. Houston and St.Loius have been offensive powerhouses for a while now. Twins and KC of the last 4 years wouldn't strike fear into anyone. And I would take Brewers' offense with Jenkings, Sexton, Burnitz, Posednik over Detroit Tigers of the last few years. Thanks. And I seem to recall Wood fared just fine against super-hitting Braves twice in the playoffs.
  4. MB's flukey (hitters have since adjusted and his last 2 years, his perioherals have been tanking) 2001 campaign notwithstanding....Wood is a better pitcher, in a tougher hitting division and he has a much higher ceiling. Mark's likely future is Jaimme Moyer. Wood's likely future is Kevin Brown. But hey, don't let me get in the way of your Sox bias. Me remembers you dissing Prior last off-season, too.
  5. I knew my English wasn't good. Here I was thinking "priests" where you clearly stated "1 of 25 priests who's been found guilty". My bad. Look, I had a junior league soccer coach who was a pedophile (he still coaches, btw) with an excellent reputation in the community. He molested a few of my teammates over the 4 year period -- the rest of us were fortunate in that I guess we weren't pretty enough for him -- although his famous "massages" would probably land him in jail in the US. Should I make border-line irresponsible, sweeping generalizations and condemn the rest of the junior league coachdom because of that scumbag? I probably knew 20 coaches either through my league or my older brother's volleyball league, and I would bet most if not all of them wouldn't even think about committing these despicable acts. You know my stance on religion/spirituality. I am not exactly a Church apologist in any conventional sense. But I was just suprised that someone as intelligent as you would eschew debating the finer points of this complex and heartbreaking crisis in favor of a rhetorical scythe.

Well, 5th and 8th grade kids can do without the details - just the basic anatomy, mechanism of conception or whatever else they learn now. HS students (14-15+) are not "little kids". In most countries, 16 is the age of consent and physiologically speaking, that's VERY close to being an adult. Infantilization of young adults is very popular in this country. Not that I am suggesting they should be viewing gay porn in HS SexEd, mind you.

Sorry....I have victims of said bigotry and ignorance to "compassionate" about. And "everyone else"? Nice try.
  9. 11 Mill? I am not sure he's worth it, but if older, less talented Colon and Millwood get as much or more from teams with less money.....why not? Makes Burhle's contract seem as, well, not overpaying.

SexEd is taught to "little kids"?
  11. Now that's just ridiculous. Outrage and pushing for reforms is one thing, but you do great dis-service to your cause with the last paragraph.
  12. Yes. It's one with that Missions Impossible dude (one who headed the manhunt), right? When it came out in 1993, it made quite a furor. Now, it's a bit dated-- almost Lifetime-y. Like 4 hourse long, too.

I used to find gays disgusting. Not the "act" -- gays themselves, the way they behaved, spoke, the cologne they wore, the hairc cuts/dye jobs, etc. I guess it was a prevalent view where I grew up, among my friends and some family members. Then I turned 15-16. And slowly but surely realized it's not ALL about my whims and sensibilities. Last few years, I've been vociferously pro-choice/pro-diversity/pro-compassion. Now my disgust is reserved for "people" like bmr, clujer, jauggernaut, etc
  14. Perhaps 'amount' is the righter word, then.
  15. I don't know why but I've always held him in the highest regard. Go Birkshire Hathaway, go!!!
  16. My hometown has the highest concentration of billionaires in the world. No surprise there.

On one hand, only a brain-dead, bigoted shmuck would come up with something like that. On the other....kids ARE highly impressonable/moldable and they DO vastly prefer to socialize with their own sex (girls/boys are icky!) up until puberty if not later. There is absolutely no way to know the long-term effects of homosexuality as accepted mainstream practice on society and on a child's psyche/identity/behaivor. None. THAT is what scares the s*** out of many "secular" parents -- probably as much as the idea of being codemned to Hell Sodom and Gemorrah-style if they condone homosexuality/pro-gay reforms scares the s*** out of religion-minded folk. All I am saying is....Gay Movement should not understimate the perceived legitimacy of the views held by its core opposition. Simple blanket slogans won't get you far. Know the REAL reasons why you're being discriminated against, and mount an unassailable arguementative, legalistic, scientific, theological and moral defense.

If Hoberman's too East Coast Elite-y....You can't get more mainstream rube-ish than TV Guide, though to be fair, Maitland McDonaugh's reviews are always clear and concise, almost too good for the publication. http://tvguide.com/movies/database/ShowMovie.asp?MI=44981
