  1. Chip Carey = something else....I was literally rolling on the floor with tears in me eyes when he said that.
  2. Let's face it: Sox have no ace They have pretty good #2 and #3 in E-Lo and Marky-Malarkey, but nobody to scare people with., esp in the playoffs. Hopefully JR is smart to realize that mid-way through the season, he'll need to spend a few Mill (on top of good prospects) on the Hudson type, which would also allow Garland to slide into #4 which suits his talents more and Show/Wright into #5
  3. Sox should take 3 out of 4. It would help if 1-2 hitters don't go 0-for-9 and Shoenweiss gets change-up over.
  4. And then maybe Joe Borowski can come over to help after he's done blowing that last slave. :headshake
  5. Fatolo Balloon was terrible in ST and he will be lucky to break the 4.00 ERA barrier outside of ALC. Angels are about to find out how big of a winner this guy is and how healthy he is. At 52 Million? I am glad he is gone. Bring on Shoenweiss.
  6. Hey, at least the Chairman is not "undressing" the need....
  7. I know, I wanted to beat that scumbag with his own catherer as he was quite literally giving 2 games away to the Twins. And then I realized Urbina is a Tiger....
  8. A month?! I was thinking 1-2 weeks tops. Have we learned nothing from Clayton, Baines, Ramirez, Konerko and Valentin as a RH? Automatic outs cost games and games accumulate and cost seasons.....Willie cannot hit. Never could, outside of one hot month in a repeat year of AAA. Roberts is right there. Costing next to nothing. Not only do you greatly upgrade at 2B, but you also upgrade at SS as it allows Uribe to start over Jose against LHP. I hate when people can't see that our offense is far from dominant. The last time Sox scored in bunches when it MATTERED was 1st half of 2000. 3.5 years ago. Sox need help -- Maggs, Hurt, Lee can't be batting with bases empty all the time. If we're in 1st place by 5-6 games come July, then Reindorf can undress the biggest need -- ace starter and possibly a closer in the Urbina mold to take pressure off Politte and Marte who is much better as a set-up man anyway.
  9. Well s***, let's tear up the bayans then.
  10. Boy, how do I HATE AstroTurf....ley me count the f***ing ways. :headshake :puke Like tennis, baseball was not meant to be played on concrete. The game looks all wrong and ugly. And then there's the extra damage to the body. Torii Hunter and Shane Stewart are about to find that about as they turn 30.
  11. Ok, momo... 1. PNC is NOT a pitcher's park. 2. If it were a pitcher's park, it does NOT change the fact that Kip is a very talented and fairly accomplished young pitcher who is in fact ahead of Shilling's 26-28yo curve and may in fact catch with Big Curt one day. May. 3. How did A's benefit from the trade? Are you that stupid or just disingenuous? They won ALW and were literally a few pitches away from going to ALCS....and Boston, in turn, was a few pitches away from the Series. Ergo, A's were a few pitches away from the Series........Did I mention the fact that this trade singularly resulted in Sox missing the playoffs in 2003? I guess that's probably unimportant in your world. Hot air? I am simply pointing out a few things that short-sighted homers like you may have missed. We both mentiojned Nardi; mine was actually relevant -- Kip was indeed a completely different pitcher as soon as he switched -- his velocity alone shot up, which doesn't normally happen. So you might as well forget about 2000-2001. Don't bother replying.
  12. Sandy's had a few operations of his own. They are often recurring in a catcher. I think the days of Mauer the Gold Glover may be in jeopardy. It's a shame for them -- he got on base 6 times in his first 7 ML at-bats.
  13. . That was a horrible trade that continues to haunt this team. The man who made it is still running the team. The philosophy, the paradigm of Cheapness that produced the need to hunt for a "bargain" like Ritchie instead of shelling out just a couple more Mill and getting a better pitcher AND keeping Kipster is still prevalent in this organization. The sooner Ritchiegate and Koch/Foulke swap are forgotten, the sooner they are repeated with equally disasterous results.
  14. Listen, I don't suffer fools lightly. You should know better than to say all this nonsense about Wells without checking with stats and watching him pitch first. Whatever he did in AL is irrelevant now. He's a completely different pitcher -- hell, in 2001 Nardi Contreras had him throwing 90-93, but as soon as he moved to a team with a real pitchign coach, he uncorked a 98mph fastball in his third start and now the heater is rarely under 93-94. His control needs further improvement if Kip want to catch up to Shilling types. At 26, he still has lots of time. I would take him back in a SECOND.
  15. It was indeed a horrible trade that not only killed 2002, but probably 2003 and even 2004 as well if you think about it. I understand some Sox fans have to stay in theraputic denial and pretend Wells is garbage, a chocker, etc. Will he be as good as Shilling? I doubt it, but everything is possible. Up until turning 34 and moving to Arizona, Shilling was basically a 3.50 ERA pitcher. An All-Star but not exactly the second coming of Pedro. Since moving to Pittsburgh, Kip is a 3.60 ERA pitcher. He may not be as good as Shilling was in 1997, but otherwise he is pretty damn close. Kip is 26. As a 26-28yo, Shilling averaged a 4.00+ ERA. Both pitchers throw 93-94 and can reach 95-97 when needed. Shilling has that splitter while Kip's slider and curve are better. Shilling has better control, but Wells still has time to improve his. 2 years from now I see Kipster as a 18-9, 3.40 ERA type pitcher. Better if he moves to a pitcher-friendly stadium. While not a HOF'er, definately a good #2 on most teams and ace on some. Which is more than I could say for Garland or Wright.
  16. Every game counts. Had Sox been up by, say, 4 games mid-Sept in 2003 instead of only 2, I bet they would have hung on for the divisional title as it would have made Minnesota too desperate and thus less effective in those last 5 games against us.
  17. Many, many people died on the cross, impaled on spikes, quartered, cooked in oil for days or else just rotted in prison over the millenii. Quite a few did so for a worthy cause or two......Jesus being Jesus, symbolizing the very best qualities a human can have, however, does warrant some additional respect, I do agree The problem is, many people don't believe in him or/and don't give a s*** about a number of "worthy" things, Jesus included. So they might as well call him/wear whatever they want in a pathetic attempt to be Cool and Relevant. f*** em. They fear indifference as vampires fear garlic, mirrors and those with AIDS.
  18. This is pathetic. Now I remember why I hate the Tribe. How much were they paid? Scumbags. Twins should be 0-2 by now. Radke and Santana looked crappy and their BP is garbage. Such is life -- Sox should be 2-0 and instead they barely avoided being 0-2. Twins -- the other way around. Astros, Phillies and Cards looked like s*** and Cubs are off to a fast start. :fyou
  19. There is no way we can survive with Harris leading off. What is it about 250 OBP that tickles everyone's fancy? If you think Jose is bad against the lefties (he was excellent in spring training against them, but now is simply way too greedy, chases everything), wait until you see Harris. Uribe can't start at SS and 2B at the same time. Orioles were almost giving Roberts away for free. A smart, ego-in-check GM jumps on the opportunity to improve the ballclub. KW will sit on his ass and on the eve of his firing it will dawn upon him that had he not been protecting his little pet projects and "bargains" like Harris, Uribe, Adkins, Koch, White and Shoenweiss, the team would have won in 2003 AND would be the best team in the divsion this year.
  20. Forgot to add that perfect example for me would be the Pixies. Never cared for them. Not even close. But that ending to Fight Club is something else. (Speaking of Fight Club.....I find it extremely funny that it's held up by the scores of flatheads as this macho manifesto that definitively captures the essence of their disaffection/impulses.......without even realizing that the guy who wrote it is openly gay. I mean, seriously....all that homoeroticism in the first hour.....That gaydar needs some major un-jamming. )
