  1. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) No way I pay Rowand 4/55 do not overpay just to do something at this point! i rather get dejesus. sure he isnt a difference maker but neither is rowand. he can be part of our team now and in the future. he would be our leadoff hitter. hes cheaper.
  2. QUOTE(juddling @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Just heard Joe Cowley on the Score talking about the Cabrera trade and he gave Kenny a bit of credit. Joe said the Sox had the best 4 person package for Cabrera on the table but the Marlins came back tried to throw Dontrelle Willis in the package and would take another couple of prospects for him. Ozzie told KW that Willis is only throwing 85 mph and not 95 like he should be and there is something wrong with him....he didn't want Willis. Kenny went back to the Marlins but the Marlins said that Willis was to be part of the package or no deal. Kenny decided not to give up prospects for a pitcher who was hurt or lost whatever he had. OK Soxtalk....discuss he should have made the trade and then could have shipped willis else where. plain and simple, cabrera could have and should have been a sox
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) If you are the White Sox you should be thinking that you have to do both. Aaron Rowand if not great and probably not worth 13.75 per, but Druw Jones will be getting more than that. Rowand is the best option available and is a big upgrade over what the White Sox currently have. sad how we have to think that way, that jones is too expensive for ur. rowand is not a difference maker and will get us no where. sometimes u have too over pay. unfortunatley its only the cubs, yanks, bos, angels...that are willing to do so
  4. please no! (too bad the throwing up smily is gone lol)
  5. QUOTE(rpmahr @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) seasons over we might as well just give up and not even watch because its not likely that we can get lucky and everyone has career years ^^^^^ whole different story if we had gotten hunter and miggy. we dont have a chance against ny, bos, at winning our division.. i just dont see whos left out there that we can get. just jones but i doubt we'll get him
  6. QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) Well melissa, I am not sure when we last signed a free agent who was a boras client, but I am pretty sure this won't happen. Call me a fool, but KW is a miserable failure so far this offseason. It will not get better, and he will try to save his ass by over paying and bringing in Aaron Rowand trying to get a pass from Sox fans. Now, if he doesn't get Rowand he will try for crisp, eitherway these are not superstars that can change a team and leapfrog three other teams in the division unless you have tremendous pitching, which they won't, because your betting on the cum with Floyd who is very un proven, and Danks, who is years away from having a season like garland did a few years back and Contraras who is close to the end of his pitching life cycle. This division is just too tough. The sox have so many holes, its just too big to overcome in one season. when i heard the dodgers had offered 16 mil/yr for 2 years, i thought we might have a chance. i thought maybe hahn could do the negotiating with boras. jones at 32/2 is better than having hunter at 18/5. but yea, apparently its going to take a lot more than 32/2 and ur right, we wont be signing boras' clients.
  7. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) Give me Fukudome at $12 million per year and let me spend $6 million for a one season deal with Fat Bart, we may be talking here. its going to take more than 12 mil after the contract given to guillen. they said a contract similar to hunters..
  8. QUOTE(G&T @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Link that would be bad...incumbent 3b inge...well they did give him an extension just this year..both cabrera and willis to det? i highy doubt that. unless they wana trade theyre whole farm
  9. QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Hunter was the player and we swung and missed. well if we can get jones..he'll put up better numbers than hunter next year..too bad we wont get him though
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) May not need to. I think the Sox may just be in this thing. Still a long shot, but, may happen. If the LAA deal fell apart, and there are only a few teams willing to shell out the right prospects, including a higher end 3B prospect like Fields... they have a chance. I apologize in advance if this was already stated, but... is Cabrera a Boras client? Or someone else? Arn Tellem, Fernando Cuza are his agents. he fired boras in 05. >i meant that when cabrera is a FA we have no chance in a bidding war. i think we have a shot at aquiring him and if we did, at resigning him. but if he hits the open market, forget it. guillen with 12mil, hunter got 18. hes gunna get at the least, 20mil
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) God kenny, wait 2 years and sign him as a FA for the same contract but without having to give up so many other players as to screw us over completely. no way we win in a bidding war for him
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) I just hope it's not to platoon with Jerry Owens in CF. i think the sox have to aquire a big impact type player. these all are/would be great additons, linebrink, ocabrera, quentin and burke but we need that sort of differnece maker like andruw jones. we were real bad and its gunna take make more than "pieces to the puzzle' players
  13. QUOTE Steve Phillips of ESPN reports that the White Sox are close to acquiring Chris Burke from the Astros for an unknown relief pitcher. Burke became expendable when Houston signed Kaz Matsui and would be competing with Juan Uribe and Danny Richard to start at second base in Chicago. David Aardsma and Nick Masset are both out of options, making them possibilities in such a deal. if its aardsma or masset, i have no problem with that. i dont think either of them was going to make the team this year anyways(and theyre out of options)
  14. QUOTE(Fotop @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) Haven't posted in awhile so I guess I'll shake off the rust...heh. Just wanted to say I'm a big fan of this deal. Outside of Quentin's abilities as a hitter and a defender (as I'm sure has been outlined enough so far) he adds the Sox further flexibility in the free agent market as well as the trade market. I mean Jose f'n Guillen is about to sign with the royals for 12million per (3 years, $36 million). Don't get me wrong, I think Guillen is a nice player (def. has some issues though) but $12 million? That's pretty ridiculous. the whole market is messed up. 12mil 4 him? yea thats ridiculous! i dont think jones accepts a 2 yr/36mil deal now
  15. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) I definitely want Quentin, Fields and Danks to stay and would be happier to see them perform well in '08 and become future stars rather than getting one superstar and creating 2 holes now and more in the future. me 2. now that i thought it all through. sure id love to have miggy and wouldnt be pissed if we got him either. but i rather sign jones to a 2 yr contract or something and keep fields, danks, etc cabrera quentin thome jones konerko dye aj fields richar
  16. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) NASHVILLE -- Kenny Williams looks at the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers and says, "Bring it on." He knows his Chicago White Sox team went 72-90 with a bloated payroll built around veterans signed to long-term contracts, but still thinks he can reclaim the magic that left after the All-Star break in 2005. I'm not sure that he can, not with the Indians and the Tigers in the way. But he's acting as if he's in the National League Central, not the American League Central, and a lot of White Sox fans are probably happy about that. They're not the most patient bunch around. For the second time in six months, Williams has made the kind of move you'd make only if it's really important to compete right now -- that is, trade your best young position player prospect for an older minor-leaguer without such a high ceiling. He did it when he sent outfielder Aaron Cunningham to Arizona for Danny Richar, and he did it again on Monday -- before even actually arriving at the Opryland Hotel for Day 1 of the winter meetings -- by sending Class A first baseman Chris Carter to those same Diamondbacks for corner outfielder Carlos Quentin, who should at least platoon with Jerry Owens in left field next season. Chris Carter is not a household name, I know. But he's the best power-hitting prospect in a system that doesn't have many of them and as such was probably the guy viewed as the eventual replacement for Paul Konerko or Jim Thome. Baseball America had him preliminarily rated as the No. 6 prospect on their Top 10 list, scheduled for publication in a future issue. The five guys listed ahead of him are all pitchers. So, no, the Sox aren't getting Quentin, a .career .230 hitter in 138 big-league games, for nothing. The good news is that you shouldn't judge Quentin by his numbers. He's a former first-round pick with a lot of upside, especially hitting at U.S. Cellular Field. He has played through injuries through his college (Stanford) and pro careers, sometimes to the detriment of his stats. He has enough arm to play right field, so the Sox may eventually consider moving Jermaine Dye across the outfield -- or at least be set with Quentin when Dye finishes his current contract (through 2009 with an option for '10). There was a time when Quentin was one of the most highly rated hitting prospects in the minors, and he might yet prove those projections to be correct. The big loser here is Ryan Sweeney, who should have been ready to take over in the outfield in 2009. He's slipped behind Owens (like him, a left-handed hitter) and now Quentin, which could make him trade bait as Williams tries to fill the remaining hole in his outfield, acquire a backup shortstop and upgrade his bullpen. Phil Rogers article quentin and owens platooning?
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) I don't disagree with one word in your post. I would absolutely expect Kenny to pursue MCab. I just have a hard time believing he would have offered both Danks and Gio. I have an even harder time believing the Marlins would have dismissed that offer outright. Perhaps they are just down on our prospects- I really don't know- but passing on two left-handed starters, a third basemen with similar power to MCab (power, not hitting ability), and a speedster capable of playing center field for them? I think that offer at least would spur more negotiations rather than a straight "no thanks." And as I said last night- if that offer doesn't even make them think- then the hell with it. yea that article cant be true. no way they pass on 2 good young lefties and a guy that stole 30 plus bases last year and fields. and i dont think kenny offered that anyways. if we did get miggy, i think he might accept a 5 yr deal or so. hes 24, he would barely be 30 5 yrs from now and would get a bigger contract.
  18. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) Man... I'm more depressed after reading that now. same here..esp bcuz torii said he thought for sure he was gunna sign with the sox..
  19. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 08:28 AM) Cabrera ain't comming here. he isnt coming here, thats right. why? bcuz like everyone is saying, if you trade for him, u have to sign him long term. u cant trade ur best prospects and let him go via free agency. and i dont think the sox would do that, 20 mill or so for 5+ years.....
  20. i wish they could get cabrera but its not gunna happen. they wouldnt pay hunter 18 bcuz kw said they wouldnt be able to contend. cabrera would cost 18 or more in a yr or 2 also(after arb.)
  21. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Nearly $17m/yr? You've got to be kidding me. 16.6 ...yea, thats a lot. theres just way too many reports out there. who knows which ones are true..we'll find out eventually
  22. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Score just reported that th Dodgers may have offered Hunter a 6 year deal for over $100 million. Stress may have. wow, hopefully that isnt true..
  23. if torii truly wants to win..texas signed inf ramon vazquez to a 1 yr deal..there you go. step in the right direction
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) Since he received a nice $15 mil per year offer from the Twins, will he be a greedy SOB who only cares about the money if he signs with the Sox instead of staying with Minny? the difference is the twins are only offering 3 years, thats it. the sox are offering 5. but yea, twins fans will think that
