  1. Vazquez sucks. Get him out of there while it's still close.
  2. This series is HUGE. These games are indeed now even more important for the Sox than last week's series against the Tigers. Let's hope Vazquez can give a quality performance for a change tomorrow. And I hope Ozzie puts some lefties in the lineup against Santana. Santana mows right through our all RH lineup.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) The last time I checked, Stewart had only caught 1 Haeger start this season. Matos has been him primary catcher. Thanks. I guess I was misinformed.
  4. QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) I was watching baseball tonite and theres a rumor the sox may be getting joe boroski, you think theres any possibility that we get Olivo back in that trade?? I always liked Olivo. Not a good game caller, but still.... I doubt the Marlins would trade him unless they got something pretty good in return.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) And the fact that he's making 8.5 million this year, which would probably be around what, 3 mil for the rest of the year? I wouldn't give that to a backup. They paid Ben Davis $1M last year to sit in the minors or on the DL, so $3M to Lopez would be a bargain by comparison.
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I also talked to BHAM last night, regarding Stew, actually. Says he's a good character guy and he likes his game calling. His PB numbers in Charlotte can be overlooked, because of Haeger. I thought I remember hearing somewhere that Stewart does an excellent job handling Haeger's knuckler. Can anyone shed more light on how well he handles Haeger? Also, could it be that a move is in the works that would involve Haeger coming up resulting in Widger being DFA'd and Stewart coming up as Haeger's caddy?
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) It's not. McCarthy would be a must for the Marlins in a Willis deal. No deal then.
  8. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) I would love Willis, but it would most likely cast Fields and Sweeney, and I think they might be too much to give up. If that's what it takes to get Willis, this deal should be done yesterday.
  9. Either start McCarthy and put Vazquez in the bullpen where he belongs, or trade Vazquez and Mackowiak for Howry & Pierre, Gordon & Rowand, Etc. Vazquez does well the first couple of times through the llineup, so use him in relief. McCarthy is our starter of the future anyway, and he can't do any worse than Vazquez right now. I have nothing against Mackowiak, but it seems as long as he's around Ozzie is going to continue to stick him in CF. He doesn't belong there.
  10. That was the most satisfying win of the season so far to me. Nice job by Jon, and Paulie came through big time. Let's keep it up and go on a big win streak.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Its sort of my personal crusade. I can't believe all the posts I see of acquiring rubbish who will magically turn to gold working with Cooper. Cooper was the Sox pitching coach before last season, and I didn't see everyone thinking he was a miracle worker then. I do think he's a good pitching coach. I just don't think he "fixes" everybody. If the guy was the miracle worker a lot of people think he is, would the board have any posts which state the concern with the current pitching staff, the one with the greatest rotation ever assembled? I agree with you. I feel the same way regarding all the posts about how Vazquez is going to be great in the second half this season because Contreras struggled last year in the first half.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Javier Vazquez is going to have the second best second half of any pitcher on our team. I hope you're right, but I highly doubt it. Someone recently posted stats on Vazquez showing how his first time through the lineup opposing hitters have a miniscule batting average against him, second time through pretty small and then third time through astronomical. Therefore... Sell the farm for Dontrelle Willis, and move Javy into the bullpen. Problems solved.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) BTW....station-to-station baseball rules. For a team that was supposed to have speed as a major component, the Sox are sure slow. Dye looks like he runs with cement shoes on, Crede, Konerko, and A.J. are just plain slow, Iguchi has average speed at best, Pods gets thrown out at too high a rate...and oh yeah, nice hustle by Thome today.
  14. It's early, anything can happen yet, but at this particular point in time... THE WHITE SOX SUCK. I just had to vent. Now, let's win this freakin' game!!!
  15. Sounds good to me. I was thinking the same thing. Abreu>>>Pods Gordon>>McCarthy McCarthy>Vazquez
  16. It's a combination of things. Our pitchers pitched over their heads last season, Vazquez is pitching like he normally does (mediocre), and historically a lot of times staffs that pitch late into October often have down years the following season. Schmidt is not the answer. It's D. Willis or bust. Sox won't repeat with pitching like this.
  17. What a crock! Bob Watson & MLB are a joke!
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) And which of these "actions" contributed to the rumors of Bobby being a white supremacist? The fact that he lived in rural Idaho, drove a pickup truck, and listened to the Charlie Daniels Band? Or the fact that somebody heard him use a racial slur? Because if he did use the term "dirty Jew", he MUST be a white supremacist! :rolly Don't these things set off your "white supremacist radar"??? QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) In my experience, racists can be identified by the way that they use the race card to tear down those that they don't like. Right on.
  19. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:14 AM) ... A black man or a homosexual walking in an unfamiliar neighborhood hear those words and they immidiately fear for there safety... And how safe would a white person feel walking in a black neighborhood and hearing words like, "hey cracker" or "redneck" or "white trash", etc.? QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:38 AM) Any word that lumps a group of people together and has negative stereotypical connotations, ie hillbilly = ignorance, is discriminitory. One discriminitory term should not be more acceptable than another. Thank you.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 01:34 AM) Typical. If a white person is a victim of discriminitory remarks, he's supposed to let it go. If it's a black or as we have recently seen, a homosexual, then the whole damn world wants to decapitate whoever said the remarks. So true.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I always liked Shingo. He won't be back. Yeah, Shingo was cool. Best wishes to him wherever he goes.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Can you imagine the outrage if they wrote something like this about the Red Sox, the Yankees, or even the Cubs? Can you imagine the outrage if someone wrote a similar type article about a young black pitcher who successfully made it out of a gang infested neighborhood in the inner city? It seems Grant is bigoted against white rural people. He even refers to them with the "H word". And what is the point of this article at this particular time? Is Jenks' success with the White Sox getting under their skin at ESPN?
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) I did a little research concerning this. Over the past month (not counting the 5 games BA was supsended) the Sox have faced 10 right handed starters. Mack has started against 5 and BA has started against 5. The results raise a whole new set of questions. 7/8 - Beckett (BOS) - Mack - 2-4 7/6 - Ortiz (BAL) - Anderson - 2-4, R 7/5 - Cabrera (BAL) - Mack - 1-3, RBI 7/4 - Lopez (BAL) - Anderson 1-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB 7/2 - Zambrano (CHC) - Mack - 2-4, R, BB 7/1 - Maddux (CHC) - Anderson 1-4, 2B, R 6/18 - Harang (CIN) - Mack - 4-4, 2R 6/14 - Padilla (TEX) - Mack - 1-3, BB 6/13 - Loe (TEX) - Anderson - 0-3, BB 6/11 - Westbrook (CLE) - Anderson - 2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI Anderson: 5 G | 6-19 (.316) | 4 R | 5 RBI | 1 HR Mack: 5 G | 10-18 (.556) | 3 R | 1 RBI | 0 HR So, is Ozzie really sitting BA against righties because he's not confident that BA can hit them (.316 avg) or is he playing Mack over BA because Rob is hitting .556 vs righties during this time frame? I don't think it has as much to do with sitting Brian because he can't hit righties as much as it's just him playing the hot bat in Mack. Hell, on the year Mack is hitting .325/.420/.462/.882 w/ 2 HR and 10 RBI vs righties. Well if that indeed is the case, then Ozzie better start playing Brian in CF everyday. If he wants to get Mack in the lineup, let him move around between LF, RF, 3B, maybe even 2B. We need Anderson's glove in CF --that is, as long as he can keep hitting at least .240. If not, we need another CF. And we're screwed if Anderson ever goes down with an injury.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Yeah, that's not true at all . . . He has more ABs this year Vs righties than lefties. He's hitting .202 vs pitchers who throw with their right hand and .167 vs those who use their left. Look, he doesn't play against a lot of righties. Ozzie doesn't trust him against the better righties yet. He didn't play today for example. The Sox have no one who can fill in adequately in CF when Anderson doesn't play. If he only missed a game every couple of weeks or so purely for a rest, Mack would be adequate I guess. But the Sox need an every day centerfielder who can catch and hit. Because the pitching has been mediocre, it's harder to cover for a CFer who can't play everyday because he hits .202 vs. righties and .167 against lefties and often doesn't play against a lot of righties because his manager doesn't like his chances against them. Personally, I would start Brian out there every day and see what he can do. If he can hit .264 from here out, great! But if he can't even hit .235, get someone in who can and also can play good defense in CF.
  25. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Just for the record, Brian Anderson is now hitting .264 since June 11th. He doesn't play against many righties.
