  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) Would you trade Ozuna or Harris for someone's b level prospects??? All depends. Not in our current situation. But if we didn't have the best record in baseball, and we needed pitching, and someone offered say an equivelent of Tracey or Bajanaru and Adkins for Ozuna, yes I would. I said he would be a backup to Crede and Konerko this year, and would be around as a possibility at 3B or 1B next year.
  2. I'd like to see the Sox add a guy like Feliz to the roster by trading a minor league prospect or two (not any of our blue chip prospects however). Then, he can take the Ross Gload/Timo Perez spot on the roster. Crede would still be the primary 3B, but Feliz would see plenty of time there. He would also be the primary backup at 1B, and could play some OF as well. You keep Willie and Ozuna around because they are versatile, and they have speed, which is important for a team based on speed and defense. The only other true speedster on the roster is Podsednik, and we have many slow players in the lineup. Since Crede is a Boras client, Feliz will be around as a possibility at 3B next year, and also around as a possible 1B if they let Konerko walk.
  3. Carl Everett Rules! And that's a White Sox sweep!!! 21 over and counting...
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) Carl's quote.. "As far as the Sox outfielder is concerned, the league has done everything it can to predetermine who makes the postseason by the way it sets up the schedule" No, that is not Carl's quote. That is Cowley's quote. In all of Carl's quotes, he says "the schedule makers."
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) :headshake What a dip s***. MLB doesn't even make the stupid schedules. When did Carl say MLB make out the schedules? Anyway, if there is a dip s*** around, it's Cowley.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) I do not see Everett as likely to being traded. He is a big part of the chemistry and Guillen and KW have repeatedly said how important that is. This board underrates it but the players themselves have said how important fit is right now. You are correct Sir.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) Timo is allowed to be on the roster and play the OF while hurt. And when he's healthy they even let him play out of position. Ross isn't allowed anywhere near the roster, let alone the OF (where I think most of us want to keep him away from anyway) while he's injured. Good point. Also, all we've been hearing is what a headache it's going to be to get Frank AB's during the interleague road trip, and how hard it's going to be to get Carl and Frank enough AB's throughout the year. So last night, when it was time to pinch hit for Garcia, who got the call??? Frank? No. Carl? No. It was Timo of course!!! I just don't get it. We already have enough outfielders. We need a backup 1B. Ross is a better hitter than Timo and is a great defensive 1B. He's been tearing the cover off the ball in AAA. How often is he going to have to make any hard throws playing primarily as a pinch hitter and a backup 1B?
  8. Those three new commercials--Paulie, Shingo/Iguchi, and Buerhle, are the WORST Sox commercials in a long time. They really dropped the ball on these, and I hope they don't do anymore of these "Angel on the L" commercials. They're just dumb.
  9. I wouldn't trade Everett or Frank. They both are very valuable to this team. Frank for obvious reasons, Everett because not only is he a quality switch hitter who can occasionally spell all three outfielders, but also for his clubhouse presence, his win at all costs attitude and his contribution to this years great team chemistry. He seems to have become the leader of this team. However, if it is true that the Sox are intent on trading one or the other, and the Angel's really need a DH, I would feel much better if we got Chone Figgins in the deal. Figgins would fit this year's White Sox quite nicely, with his speed, switch hitting and versatility. He can play 3B for Crede, spell Iguchi at 2B when he nneeds a rest, and can play all three OF positions better than Timo. He can also play some SS. I don't want to trade Carl or Frank, but again if they do, Figgins is the guy to get. Anything less, and I'd be upset.
  10. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) What sickens me in this whole situation is it reeks of Ozzie's desire to find at bats for Timo. If he would just give Carl Timo's at bats then everyone would be happy and we could get rid of Timo. Thank you! Trading Carl would be a negative blow to this team's chemistry. He has emerged as the leader of this team. With Carl as the fourth outfielder spelling Dye, Pods and Rowand (Pods in CF, Carl in LF), plus DHing a couple of times a week and some pinch hitting, both Frank and Carl can get plenty of AB's and everyone stays fresh. Timo just takes AB's away from Carl. With Gload back on the bench, Timo's role of LH pinch hitter is also taken. Keep Carl and Frank and cut Timo.
  11. If they send Willie down, you can't use your fastest runner on the bench, Ozuna, to pinch run for Frank in a critical situation because that leaves you with no backup IF's on the bench. If you do pinch run Ozuna, you can no longer pinch hit for Crede or the other IF's later, because you have no IF left to replace them. That's another reason why this would be such a bad move.
  12. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Timo = Latino Harris not = Latino Believe me, that matters with Ozzie. Just look at our roster. LOL! Maybe thet're sending Willie down to AAA to work on his Spanish???
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Guys, it was obvious this was going to happen, Ozzie likes timo because he's one of the best bunters we have and stats or not stats Timo's been a clutch hitter and yes this year too. He's been bad this year no doubt but with the few hits he has he'd had some huge ones, the homer vs minny, the bases loaded bunt and of course the hit on memorial day. Also he just had a countless number of clutch hits last year. I personally think it's the wrong move because I think willie is the better player however this move won't kill me either way. Timo's primary asset is supposedly as a "clutch" left handed pinch hitter. Well, Ross Gload also fills that role quite nicely as he has proven last year. Ozuna can play every position on the field except probably pitcher and catcher. Willie is our best defensive 2B, can back up passably at SS and CF, and hits lefty with a good OBP. Timo should be the odd man out, his clutch hitting notwithstanding.
  14. Sending down Willie while keeping Timo is just dumb. With Frank back, we already have enough trouble getting Carl, who also plays outfield. his AB's. Timo is now useless. Willie is fast, has a high OBP, plays great defense at 2b, backs up at SS and is young and improving. Timo is none of those. Willie plays outfield just as well as Timo, but Timo can't play infield. Ozuna plays all of Timo's positions as well as Timo (if not better) plus he plays all IF positions. OHHH-EEEH-OHHH, Timo must go!
  15. How about Crede and Fields for Chavez? The A's get rid of an underperforming, big contract 3rd baseman for a serviceable stop gap third baseman plus a third baseman of the future. They free up money for other young players. The Sox get a guy they hope returns to Gold Glove, .280 30HR form, which he has consistently done in the past. If the A's insist on pitching, how about Crede and Sean Tracey? No way do I give them BMac in this deal.
  16. Let's see. Shingo is the all time saves leader in Japan. He got lit up in spring training last year and started slowly before becoming a lights out closer for the Sox last year. This year he is struggling early but as has been pointed out, only has had two really bad outings. I say we keep him. B)
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Maybe he also wasn't wanting to blow a minor league option on someone who he'd only bring up for a couple of games? If he were to call up Gload, it wouldn't have been for only a couple of games. When Gload comes back up, it's for good. Besides, Gload is not on an option, he's on a rehab assignment.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Maybe KW just saw the weather report & decided to give Gload another day of rest/practice in AAA. I never thought of that, but that's not a bad idea. As it turns out, they were probably just saving the spot for Frank's return Monday.
  19. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ May 28, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) wow! now only if gload can learn some solid RF skills he can spell Dye vs. tough rightys. No. Gload wasn't very good in RF before his (throwing) shoulder inflammation. Gload is a slick fielding first baseman who can spell Konerko vs. tough righties. Carl can spell Dye every once in a while, as well as Frank when he needs a rest.
  20. What's up with all the errors (for Chavez) this year? I haven't seen him other than when we played there so I don't know what's going on with him. The fielding problem has me even more concerned than the hitting slump, although that is also a concern given the steroid allegations.
  21. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 28, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) they could, but id guess id rather substitute someone like sweeney or anderson with crede for chavez That sound a little more reasonable. But before making a trade for Chavez, I would hope they would make certain there is nothing wrong with him. Not only is he struggling at the plate, but the Gold Glover already has something like nine errors this season. I never thought he was a suspect for 'roids, but some people have suggested this and you never know. As I said, having the best record in baseball should mean that we don't have to be desperate. If Oakland needs to unload that contract and we can give them Crede plus some mid-level prospect I would jump on it. McCarthy should be untouchable at this point. Anderson or Sweeney maybe, but then you better be pretty darn sure you're getting the old Chavez in return.
  22. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 28, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) I'm sorry, I had to laugh out loud at that first part. Chavez is a proven gold glover and 30 HR hitter. Crede hasn't done anything of note. At worst, he is a defensive upgrade over Crede, at best he is our #3 hitter. While I'm not a fan of trading B-Mac or taking on all of his contract, he'd certainly be a major upgrade. Oh, I agree. I'd take him in a heartbeat over Crede. But no way would I give them Crede and McCarthy. We shouldn't be that desperate. If the A's need to free up that money from Chavez' massive contract they can have Crede. That's a no brainer. But they can't have a cheap, young, decent fielding third baseman with 20 homer power plus our best starting pitcher prospect. No way.
  23. Chavez has twice as many errors as Crede so far and is having an even worse year at the plate. Having said that, I'd trade Crede for him in a heartbeat. Unless Chavez was heavy into 'roids, I doubt he will struggle like this forever. But I wouldn't overpay for him either. We've still got the best record in baseball with Crede as our starting third baseman. If Oakland wants to dump Chavez' big contract in exchange for a good fielding third baseman with some home run pop who is relatively cheap, I would make the trade Crede for Chavez even up. If they want Crede and McCarthy, they can take a hike.
