  1. The double was to right field. He should hit that way more and not try to hit HR with every swing.
  2. He saw the way the market was going and got his money while he could. The opt out occurs after the next CBA so he can take advantage of any changes that may benefit the players. Great contract for the players, not very team friendly but they obviously really wanted to keep him.
  3. People on this board seem to like to discuss reasons for injuries. Here is a good new article. This confirms many ideas we've had about mechanics. Interesting new article on pitchers who have UCL surgery. 140 MLB pitchers who had UCL surgery between 2010-2017. Pitchers who undergo UCL surgery have a release point further away from the body. Not only that but the release point had moved away in the last 2 years prior to surgery. UCL injuries and release point..pdf
  4. Looks like whoever made the lineup cards was used to putting Moncada at 4 then wrote the 5 over it.

The freedom trail in Boston is a must. Many of the historic sites are on it. It's under 5 miles.
  6. That's a really long time after the healing stage, 4-6 weeks?
  7. Correct. So it's a failure so far. Good plans need to have results. Doesn't have to be world series but it needs to have regular competition for a playoff spot.
  8. Doesn't matter. Their job is to win at the MLB level. Both look to have made good acquisitions and are on the right path. But until they win at the MLB level the are not a success.
  9. They both suck until one of them actually wins something.
  10. What kopech? Does the fact that he has pitched 75% of his career with the Sox organization disqualify him? He looked pretty good.
  11. Well see how long the new era of baseball lasts before too many injuries knock out to many young pitchers. The new era may need to adjust as well.
  12. Let's not go too far into revisionist history. Quintana was released from the minors because he sucked. Floyd was bad before the Sox got him. Danks was better than a 3rd starter prior to injury. You can justify your anger about not signing Machado but jeez.
  13. There is more drama on this site now than my daughter's dance company.
  14. I hope it doesn't take 5 years at the MLB level to develop, this is why they need the time to develop in the minors.
  15. Since they aren't going to buy premium FA they need to take the time to let the prospects develop. Rushing the prospects will take away the only chance of being a competitive team.
  16. The truth is JR didn't want to guarantee the highest free agent contract ever.
  17. His answer will be that they actually more than that amount. So yes they were serious. Its BS ut that will be the answer.
  18. Maybe. He should be swinging a bat in the 6 weeks timeframe. The extra 6 weeks seems long but maybe they going to extend the time before he swings the bat.
  19. This is the part that really stings. The rebuild still has a good chance of success. But the acquisition of either of them would have accelerated the process and given them more room for error of prospect busts. They could have helped the team so much by signing one of them.
  20. Could be all of them, just think it was simply not wanting to pay the money. There is no rational reason to stick to the 300 number unless it was just an idea stuck in JRs brain. I will not pay 300, but I will give him the possibility to make 325.
  21. I agree that makes a difference as well. By why dont the Sox offer them? Because JR doesn't want them? Could be his stubbornness again.
  22. I agree. The opt outs could be more of a factor as well. Similar money, the opt outs to make a big difference as well. This may take on even more importance if the CBA changes in a few years.
  23. I agree. There is no reason why at this low of a price they shouldn't have done it. It has set back the rebuild for no good reason.
  24. No I don't have proof. None of us has any proof. Both of our scenarios could be true. It just makes no sense why they would offer the fairly easily attainable incentives to pay him more than what SD offered. True it was a more team friendly deal but it seems like a small difference when they have been working on it for so long. It all comes down to the ego in my view. Of course, it could be wrong but it makes the most sense.
  25. I disagree. I think you are underestimating JRs ego and how much he did not want to set the bar for the highest free agent contract ever.
