QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Perhaps you missed it in the article.. but if your cat has a collar and tags - which is should - then you have nothing to worry about.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) Again, this isn't about your pet. It's about strays! ? No, it's not! Read the freaking article! Ever heard of an "outdoor cat"? They're not the same thing as a "stray." It came from your condescending rhetoric.

QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) "Domestic" cat doesn't mean some kid's pet. Apparently there's a population problem and they're pushing this as a solution. (I'm not saying it's the correct one) I just think calling these people "idiot backwoods hicks) and "brain dead hicks" isn't cool. I must be in the minority here, so go ahead and be that way. I guess there's a double standard when it comes to some things. When someone tries to push legislation to allow someone to legally MURDER my pet, I feel that I have the right to call that person an "idiot backwood hick." Perhaps you feel that you're "above" that. But I already know that you're not a better person than I, so I don't really give a rat's ass about what you think. :finger

What's been lost in this discussion is that fact that it's only an investigation. The artist's right to free speech/expression has not been violated.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) And you know this how? This is how... Only a brain-dead hick would push for such legislation.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) And I hope she has to apologize to the students, rape survivors in general, and has some community service hours required at her local rape crisis shelter. No kidding. I wonder how often defense lawyers will use this case to defend actual rapists. :headshake Way to undermine a very serious problem on college campuses, idiot.
-
QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) If people would follow Bob Barker's advice ("Help control the pet population - Have your pet spayed or nuetered.") then a proposal like this wouldn't be necessary. No, these are just idiot backwood hicks who want the authority to take target practice at anything that's below them on the food chain. They're Beavis and Butthead with voter registration cards.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) That's the bazillion $$ question... we're trying to decide between a cruise, Australia, or Italy... Never been to Australia, but my wife went to Italy years ago and LOVED it. She'd strongly recommend Tuscany and Rome.
-
What? You mean that both parties do this? No way! :rolly So, the question now is if the liberal press will report it, or if they'll go the Sandy Berger route and try to bury it. BTW, I've been to Bennington, VT. Not a very exciting town, but they have a pretty cool Revolutionary War monument.

Only someone with an extremely small penis would think that shooting a defenseless, domesticated animal qualifies as "sport." What a sad, pathetic world we live in. :headshake If someone shot one of my cats, I'd return the favor by shooting one of their children.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) Painting a picture of the President with a gun to his head is no more a threat on the President's life than a Mariano Rivera effigy doll hanging in Fenway Park is a threat to his. Of course, there are no federal laws protecting Mariano Rivera. Right or wrong, the government takes ANYTHING that could be PERCEIVED as a threat to the President very seriously and investigates it. Make an off-handed comment about wanting to kill the President in a public place and you very well may get a visit from the Secret Service. It's happened numerous times before, and one of these people later hijakced a plane at BWI, planning to fly it into the White House back in the early '70s. After that incident, the asassinations of Lincoln and JFK, and the attempted asassination of Reagan, the Secret Service doesn't mess around.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:14 AM) I dont get art either, but how anyone calls something they don't get, "stupid" is, well, pretty stupid IMHO. I don't get nuclear physics either, but I sure ain't calling it stupid. What I'm much more concerned with is the fact that Secret Service was sent to "investigate" a f***ing college art fair. And the reference to the other kid who was "questioned" after making anti-war drawings. This is America, and you should have the right to draw anything you want without fear of government interference. Threatening the life of the President is a federal crime. I'm not sure that this "art" falls under the "threat" category, but they certainly do have the right to investigate it.

Kerry/Lugar might have revealed undercover agent

QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) I've met Lugar and I think he's a genuinely nice man, one who more often than not (in matters of expertise) puts principle ahead of party which is something you don't often see in politics these days. And as far as foreign policy goes, he's genius. My disdain for Lugar stems from the way that he panders to seniors at the expense of the rest of us. I'm sure that he's a nice person, but I'll never vote for him. I don't know much about Lugar's foreign policy record, but wasn't he the one who suggested after 9/11 that the use of nucear weapons in Afghanistan would be a viable option? -
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) From the story: "And English-only laws do nothing constructive to increase English proficiency. They simply discriminate and punish those who have not yet learned English,” Schneider said. No, they simply let the government conduct 'official' business in ONE language, so they don't have to print multiple forms in multiple languages, or have interpreters handy for various meetings and such. The print savings along are HUGE. I own a print shop, and do the printing for a few of the towns by my shop, I know. Part of me would be sad to see this end, I like the $$$, but in principle, there is no reason for the forms to be in anything other than English. If the folks in Washington weren't a bunch of cowardly weenies, English would've been our official language long ago.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) I'll be the first to admit, I don't "get" art. I don't take it as a threat, I just see it as stupid. Real art isn't stupid. This, on the other hand, is just crap.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Go ahead and pick at my wording all you like, but Lugar and Kerry should have their security clearences stripped for being so stupid. This doesn't surprise me at all. I tend to vote Republican more often than not, but I'll NEVER vote for Lugar. He's a complete momotard. Dare I say that I even respect Kerry more than Lugar's dumb ass. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) I immediately thought of a watch.. but I got him a TAG for Christmas... I was thinking about virtual golf sessions.. which is something I know he would enjoy. My then-fiancee' and I actually talked about what we wanted for wedding presents. That obviously takes the surprise element out of the equation, but the result was that we both got something that we really wanted. I loooove my Kenneth Cole watch. Good luck with everything. Where are you and the hubby honeymooning?

Can't think of what I received, but I gave my sister a Frank Thomas jersey for her 16th birthday and gave my dad my Sox Starter jacket (purchased in '90) when I left for college (a few years later). Both items are still worn on a regular basis.

My wife got me a nice watch. I got her a large monogrammed Bible.

I will NEVER move to California.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) Nah, that is not even close to being a man date. If you work together, of course you sometimes eat together. Man date would be like in the evening, maybe even a weekend evening, I'll pick you up, I made reservations type of deal. Well, if that's the definition, then no. I'd go out to a bar with one other male friend sometimes in college or grad school, but that's abou tit. I would never even think to set up a "date" with another man, even if it's obviously platonic to both parties. My male friends are drinking and sports-watching.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) Just in a general sense. The US didn't let the confederacy leave, would Canada let Que leave? Even today, states like California and Utah are completely different socially, politically, and religiously. Yet they can manage to coexist as part of the United States. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious here, but I don't see why this "let's just get along" mindset can't apply to Quebec and the rest of Canada.

I'm VERY glad that our pitching is off the hook right now, but we're going to be in trouble if our offense continues to exhibit a .268 OBP, and especially a .208 OBP with RISP. As good as our pitching may be, they need more run support. I'm expecting things to kind of even out of the next couple weeks, where our guys will start driving in more runs but our pitching will sink a little below the "stellar" level. The end result will be the same, though.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) I know Hernandez was injured last time but does that make him a huge injury risk... That depends what you mean by "last time." 2003: 16 starts 2004: 0 starts Yeah, I'd say that he's an injury risk. :rolly Prospects don't mean crap until they actually do something in the majors. Anderson might be a decent #5 on some teams, but not for us. He was horrible last year and has never put up better-than-Garland numbers in the AL.
